Call me crazy, but Metal Gear Solid is the BEST video game series of all time.

In all honesty, i cant think of any other game that can even come close to this incredible series. If you've been around since MGS1, you know what im talking about. After finishing MGS4, you just feel so complete and happy and sad and so many emotions at once its crazy. Never before have i been touched by a video game this much. You feel so connected with the characters after all these years, and its just so sad to see everybody go.

Plus it basically created the stealth action genre with the original Metal Gear. I really cant think of any better game, series or whatever thats as good as this.

Call it a movie, call Snake old, i dont care. All i know is that this is a legendary series that will be remembered forever.

My favorite series are Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, and Fire Emblem. Metal Gear Solid is good, too, but I don't think anything will ever top the four series I just named.

Anyways, I haven't played the complete Metal Gear Solid series yet. As of the ones I've played completely through, my favorite would be the Jak Series developed by Naughty Dog.

Hitman 1 was bad, hitman 2 was excellent and probably had the best story and cut-scenes along with music score, hitman 3 was decent but the last hitman wasn't that great imo. Decent gameplay but the story was so-so along with everything else.

I beat Metal Gear 2 and 3 for the second time within a couple weeks of playing Metal Gear Solid 4. When I finished, I beat Portable Ops, which had been sitting in my PSP for a while, and then I bought Essentials just so I could play MGS1 and MG1 and 2 on the Subsistence disc (which wasn't included, damn you Konami.

So I've played the entire franchise since, what, 96 or 99? When did MGS1 come out? I think it was 99.

Here's what I have to say: Portable Ops had a great story and horrible controls (PSP's fault?); MGS2 was great but had a horrible camera; MGS3 likewise but was made infinitely more playable and more enjoyable with Subsistence camera....fantastic story between the two of them and excellent dialogue...

MGS4 has some of the best gameplay and controls I've ever experienced in a videogame, incredibly cinematic gameplay and cutscenes, and a fantastic epilogue to the story despite some occasional sappiness/stupidity (primarily because of Akiba and his "friend"). Easily one of the candidates for best game I've ever played.

MGS1 sucked. Sucked, period. The dialogue was in places excellent, in places horrifically bad, the story was spotty, the camera was unmanageable, the controls and gameplay broken. But that was the last one that I played. Maybe the excellence of the later games spoiled me.

The series is too up-and-down for me to call it "best series of all time." Why not Mario or Metroid or something dumb like that?

I have to disagree. Episode 2 was awesome, but Half-Life 2 was a lot more fun. It had more variety in its locations, and the story and the setting were just more immersive. Half-Life 2: Episode Two was kind of... well, a "been there, done that" kind of thing. I really liked the end where you fought all those machines, but it didn't feel like anything I hadn't done before.

I think HL2 was better than HL1 (keep in mind I played HL1 a half decade after it was released) and that Episode 2 was practically throwaway. At the very least, it's an Episode. It was one sliver of a full game. I was stunned when I saw the end, how quickly it came. Completely unfilfilling.

That and I spent 20 minutes looking for those stupid light bugs and I missed three of them. THREE!

I mean that the games have extremely strong bonds, not just in that theres a common protagonist and general plot thread...

Theres a STUNNING continuity and it brings out a hell of a lot of empathy for each of the characters.

If the final boss fight in MGS4 didn't leave you with wet britches, I declare you a cyborg. When I continued playing Metal Gear games, I just got MORE excited about it. That's what I mean. The more you play, the more you see, the more you get, the more you fill up with joy and googoos.

Compared to the other games at LEAST it sucked.

I had an almost total reliance on the radar and at least 75% of my attempts to choke out guards ended up with an alarm AFTER I had them in a headlock.

A glitchy, spotty mess. The voice acting was amazing and the music was occasionally moving. That's the best I've got to say about it.

Gears of War only has one game at retail...

After playing the entire MGS series I have to say my love for it puts it ahead of Diablo and God of War.

Call it a sentimental thing, but that's part of its appeal, if not its greatest appeal.
