Seeing as it has almost DOUBLE as much votes as SMG.(4.106 votes)
Do you think CoD4 will take it?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Yes. And it has doubel votes than SMG because it's multiplat.Kratos_OMEGA
Is that the only reason? No chance that it's better than SMG?
COD4's short single-player Campaign is going to kill it's chances IMO.
As great as it is online, the fact that it's campaign is so pathetically short kills it.
Yes. And it has doubel votes than SMG because it's multiplat.Kratos_OMEGA
But, if you compare the Single Player part between each, who wins?

HArd to say, SMG is longer..but COD4's single-player is short but amazing.

Obviously, but i'm saying the lead wouldn't be double if COD4 was exclusive. overall COD4 is a better game than SMG.

Yes, it was. But, don't forget SMG's single player was also amazing in MANY people's eyes:?

That's true, and looking at how many votes SMG got so far being an exclusive shows how much it's loved and appreciated as an AMAZING game :).

Yeah but COD4 had multiplayer..and in the context of things COD4 would definitely deserve it more. It's a shooter in amongst millions of shooters...SMG is like one of 2-3 well known platformers this entire year. I consider COD4 the RE4 of COD series.

Yes, good point. COD4 IS the RE4 of the CoD sreies.
there are 3 flaws that really annoys me in COD4.
besides that i enjoy the mp. i finally was able to finish most of the games i bought on november and december and these last few days i been spending my time on cod4. im almost on my 2nd prestige mode.
i always loved the single player campaign games iw has made. i find their campaign enjoyable and i think they do a great job on how they present their games. they have always have made great fps games even before they left ea to form iw.

Erm, I'm confused? RE4 was a total re-think to a tired formula of RE games. It introduced new concepts to the survival-horror genre. What's particularly new or revolutionising about COD4 (apart from the perk system, which is nothing more than a tacked on levelling system)?

I don't mean identically. But the fact it's set in Modern Times as opposed to WWII?
Doesn't matter. The fact that COD4 is winning takes away all the credibility from the reader's vote anyway. They shouldn't even have categories since they are all just popularity contests.
If there was a category that said "Best graphics of the year: Crysis or Halo 3" I gaurentee you that Halo 3 would win.

No it wouldn't. And readers are voting for COD4. Lat time i checked Halo 3 has a far bigger fanbase than COD4.
CoD 4 is pretty muchthe same as COD2.. But with added grinding..
Thing is that most people hasn't realized how bad grinding-games are yet.. Myself I got tired of them after playing for a few years in the late 90'. Now there is no turning back, and I can see how grinding has nothing to do with the terms "good" or "fun".

thats what killed it for me. i like the single player portions of COD. 1 & 2 were amazing single player games. i hate when developers change over to completely multiplayer, thats why i didnt like halo 2 or 3.

You just displayed the intelligence level of a sponge. You simply did what could be explained as a reflex and nothing more. I don't say that is your real intelligence since you are on the other side of the web.. But I can't give you credit for more then you show..

Anything the same level like SMG did for platformers what with it's gravity and crazy level desings?

:| Bioshock a 6 hour campaign? No review I've read has mentioned such a short campaign, in fact it's the opposite, for a FPS it actually has a lengthy campaign a good 12-15 hours on normal and hard modes. And yes I've played it.
Stop making nonsense up, you can literally run through every game in a few hours if you try hard enough. Now COD4's sub 5 hour tack on was short. And no setting it in a new environment doesn't make it all new and revolutionary. If that was the case then every new iteration of Jax and Daxter would be revolutionary because it's set in a new game world.
SMG will win GOTY if Gamespot isn't as stupid as the people who vote. (Or if their not being payed by someone)sexy_chimpExactly. I think I remember last year during the GOTY voting event....TP got more votes than gears....but gears still won. Mostly because it scored higher.

Bioshock is 15-20 hours from what I've heard. Also what's with the mentality that every game has to have online to be worth any amount of money? I suppose they just started playing games this gen since most games last gen and before didn't have online.

But reinvigorating a series and being innovative are too separate entities. COD firstly wasn't on the level of the RE franchise in terms of rehashes, which had become diluted with crap after RE: Code Veronica. Secondly changing a games setting is nothing new.

I dont believe CoD4 was innovative. but its change in setting had the same effect as resi's change in perspective. it made the series popular againand more highly regarded and maybe slightly more "unique".
I don't know what to think of the GameSpot Readers' Choice, the great chain moves very mysteriously here, but CoD 4 seems to be a legitimate GotY choice.
