Although obscure, the Heroes of Might and Magic is probably the best, if not THE best turn-based strategy series on the PC, although fans like to pretend that HoMM4 doesn't exist.

The reasons I make this prediction are:

  1. Hot seat is almost dead anyways, though it's still fun as hell
  2. Black Hole Entertainment seems to not realize that a TF2 promo instantly increases sales
  3. The storytelling seems to be better than the previous games

Eh, I bet more people would play this compared to something like Frozen Synapse (8.5) or on the other side of the turn based spectrum: Tactics Ogre: LUCT (9.0). Not knocking you or anything as I've heard good things about it as well as some drawbacks too. As for me, I've still got plenty of Kings Bounty to sink my teeth into already.

Waiting for more reviews before I buy it. Won't win GOTY though. Thinking 7.5 or 8 at GS

I'm not saying it would win GOTY. I'm just saying that it will be one of the best games with the worst sales.

Ermm..it might not be popular in USA, but it's very strong brand in Europe. It will sell like crazy here.

Way to dumbed down, lazy design choices and lots of other problems.

I played the demo and was instatly dissapointed

Heroes 3 and 5 are some of my top games and 50% of that is because of the amzing imaginative cities and creature dens i can visit to increase my army

That has been totally destroyed in Heroes 6, the cities look and feel nothing like Heroes 3 and 5 and reqruiting cratures is now boring and terrible

It is the worst dissapointment i had all year, i dont even consider buying this game now at this state, i would rather play more Heroes 5

If it´s as good as the first 4 games, then it has a good chance.

From the demo seems like a huge step down even from Heroes 4, no towns, no reqruit dens in towns to click, not all resources

The feeling of what made this game amazing is 50% gone for me

It's second best entry in the series after HoMMIII imo. Some economic stuff is simplified to make room for bigger combat focus, but expanded RPG elements make up for it. Plus it is the first entry with good story and interesting art style.

I'm pleasantly surprised, and here i thought you were just a 360 fanboy with no interest in HoMM. For the definite HoMM experience, i recommend you get Heroes of Might & Magic 3: Complete Edition, In The Wake of Gods community expansion (which adds a ton of new features) and the High Resolution Mod which improve the visuals.

I have two different opinions now! I want to believe that this game is awesome since i really love the series. Still play Heroes 3 and 4 once in a while (hated Heroes 5).

Downloading now. :) I'll tell you guys what I think. Although I'm a bit disappointed of hearing about certain things being taken out, I'll remain enthusiastic.

I have already played it with Wake of Gods of course, i am a huge Heroes fan, that is why i cant stand the new towns in Heroes 6

The good news is that i read somewhere that developers are aware of the issue and will try to make proper cities later, i will definatly wait for that to happen before i buy the game

I also loved Clash of Heroes, different style by addictive and amazing too

Also huge thanks for the high resolution mod, i could replay all of Heroes 3 with that :), i love 2D art more than anything

I am actually an old school gamer, some of my best games are BG1-2, Torment, Might and Magic RPG series, Lands of Lore, Alone in the dark 1, Arx fatalis, Gothic 1-2 etc

Well..if you liked 4th you might like 6. Not in that they're similiar, but they do offer a lot of changes to formula, if you didn't hate on IV it means you don't expect carbon copy of the HoMM III. Especially since some of the changes actually make the game harder despite streamlining it. Like removal of couple resources. In later half of the game it actually makes it a lot harder to win, because you need ton of upgrades and they often use the same resources, so you're forced to do some hard choices. In previous games the ammount of resources was so big, that it was much easier to upgrade everything as different upgrades demanded different resouerces.

lmao...Mac gamer. It wouldn't be worth it to put Heroes VI on Mac, it would be a terrible waste of resources.

I have Duke Nukem Forever running at a smooth what feels like 60FPS, all maxed out, on my MBP 15". The OpenGL api makes gaming more smoother and less resource intensive than microsofts directx api.

The only thing i didnt like in Heroes 4 was the art direction. On the other hand, i liked the changes in gameplay like the fact heroes can be playable characters during battle and the fact any creature can move in the map without the need of an hero.

Just a noob question: where can i download the demo? :P

Lol..no...3D accelertion sucks under OSX, the same hardware performs worse in OSX than in Windows. You would get far better framerates in DNF if you would install Windows on bootcamp on that MBP of yours.

Anyway, this doesn't matter anyway. Putting Heroes VI on Mac wouldn't simply make much sense, the target market is too little to bother.

Im new to the series. I played the demo for 6 and thought it was really cool. I bought 5 from Impulse as it was only $4.99 on sale and I am enjoying it. I hear alot of you complain about 5 and as a newbie to the series, I was curious what is wrong with it?

Honestly? Nothing. It just has the misfortune of being compared to HoMMIII, which was absolute masterpiece. Enjoy both V and VI and don't let oldmen grumbles bother you :)

I'm new to the series as well, and I just purchased VI, although I should have purchased V first. Maybe I'll jump on that deal for $4.99. So far, I'm liking M&MH VI a lot. It's incredibly addictive!
