Ok, so just yesterday I finally finished Mass Effect 1 on PC and without a sigle doubt I rushed to a store and bought ME 2 for PC, go home, and installed it.

After seeing the MC average review of 96, same as Uncharted 2, seeing the IGN article "ME 2 is better than U2" I had a lot of expectations from this game, "Wow, this is a game that is better than U2, one of the best game of all time" so I played the game and I thought.......

WTF? How can anybody said this game very good?

You can't change your armor, just upgrade it, and you can't change or modify your friend's armor, you can't toogle-helmet in the middle of the mission, there's no equipment in the menu, when you gained level-up you can't upgrade your status anymore, just skill point....

Gameplay...what? So I'm playing Gears of War+COD now? Seriously? I want to play RPG, not TPS! So now if I'm taking cover your heal regained just like when I played COD? What the....so what's the point of having Medigel in this game? Only for Unity? Pfffttt!!

Graphic.....did I heard some lemmings said this game on 360 has better graphic than U2? What a bulls**t....I played it on my PC and everything are maxed out!! Better than U2? They're not even on the same levels!! U2 graphics and animations are 100 times better than ME 2!! Seriously, anybody said ME 2 graphics are better than U2 proves he didn't have a PS3!

So, I only played it until I met Garrus as Archangel and then I got bored up and then turn off my PC, never touched it again.

So, please SW, can anybody told me a reason why ME 2 is so good besides the story? Because so far, ME 2 is one of my biggest dissapointment this year, better than Uncharted 2? I'm really glad GS only gave this game score 9.0 not 9.5 because ME 2 is no way better than Uncharted 2

Mass Effect 2 is not a RPG as far as I'm concerned. I passed the game just recently. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the first ME which was more like a RPG and less like a TPS.

I loved gameplay and story of the first one.

The gameplay and story of the second one was alright,

The graphics overall are just ok.

8 or 9 is the perfect score for ME2 imo.

Awesome story, presenetaion, gameplay, story paths, expansive world, and fun to play. I ask myself the same question about MGS4 though.

Because it's opinion - even reviews are down to personal preference. I've played the first game (haven't finished it as I left it for too long, but never got around to restarting it - know the storyline though) and I much prefer ME2 - story wise, gameplay wise. I can find myself playing it, and then before I know it - 5/6 hours have passed.

It's easier to say what's not so good about ME2. And that's the lack of the classic Normandy theme. :'( Besides that, the game is nearly perfect.

ME2 isin't an RPG, its a shooter with alot of talking, and amazing one at that, with a very well fleshed out universe.

Your complaints are things which made ME2 better over ME.

If you want a real RPG go play The Witcher or Dragon Age, of if you want lots of loot get Torchlight or Titan Quest. There's nothing wrong with ME2.

Well it's a bigger game than most other linear games nowadays.

Lol. I always find it amusing when people bring this up.

ME2 removes the TERRIBLE inventory system that ME1 had, and suddenly it's not an RPG?

Do some people really play RPGs for items? I don't understand the fascination with being able to pick up massive amounts of random crap that you aren't going to use.

In my mind, ME2 is more of an RPG than the vast majority of supposedly-"pure" RPGs released this generation.

Character customization is an important part of any RPG. ME2 removing the inventory limits that part. But I agree, though. That does not stop it from being a RPG hybrid.

Yeah, understand that.

Despite what I said, I do hope an inventory system returns in the third game.

I was just saying that I feel what we get in ME2 is FAR better than dealing that clunky piece of garbage we got in the first game. I hope they put an inventory system in ME3, and if they do, I hope they do it correctly this time.

It's a downer in the RPG aspect but I still thought they did a tons of things better to make up for that such as more interesting missions, better character development, and gameplay. Hopefully in ME3 they would focus more on the RPG elements.

It seems that you were looking more for an RPG than an action game. ME2 is more of an action game than an RPG, but in the best way possible. Fantastic combat, streamlined gameplay, and a great cast of characters that put the story on a more personal level.

It removed all the muck that the original had, bringing a much more focused game that never wastes your time.

Some of those things apply to other games thataren'tRPGs.

Sure it has RPG elements, but its more a shooter, thats not a bad thing. Its better to call it a new genre, the Bioware genre.

But when i think RPG, i think The Witcher, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate. When i think action RPG,Titan Quest, Diablo,i dont think Mass Effect 2. But hey, i wouldn't consider many JRPGs, RPGs at all, more action/adventure games.

Personelly i happy with the removing of many RPG aspects, it allows to focus more on what their great at, charatcers, dialogue, story and setting.

It definitely IS an RPG.

I think some people are just mad that it's changing things up a bit.

I can tell you i'm glad it is removing many of the RPG elements to focus on making the SHOOTING better :P

I disagree. An RPG levels up your character. In ME2 all you do is level up your ammo ability's (basically your guns). ME2 is more of a 3rd person adventure with customizable options. You want to see what a real RPG is, play Dragon Age or better yet Baldur's gate 2.

Focusing on RPG elements would be a step backwards. They showed it works great like this, they should just improve on their proven formula rather than add stuff to satisfy the minority and risking breaking their current gameplay core.

Did it ever occur to you to read some of the reviews? They are far more enlightening than a forum with a bunch of people who have agendas.

But then again, I don't think you are seeking an answer to your question at all, knowing your post history.

Its a shooter/rpg hybrid bro. Just like borderlands was a shooter/rpg hybrid. However, something that ME2 does that i love so much is it has a very good story that you actually pay attention to and get involved in. Its not like borderlands where you run around and gun and dont really give a crap about the story except for progression.

As for your "real RPG" recommendations.....you're telling me to play games I've already played bro:

Yeah it would, it'd just be created by a lem instead. I see what you're getting at though. :P

So TC, your whining about the TPS gameplay? Yeah, instead of just spamming biotic abilities like you could have in the first ME, this one requires you to actually strategize what you want to do. The inventory system in the first sucked too, customizing your armor is way less time consuming.

Lulz, funnily enough I think the shooting is good enough and I do want the inventory and looting back. IronBass

It needs blind fire and some adjusting of where you can peer out from at times depending on the height of the cover.

I would REALLY like them to bring back the old overheat weapon system as well, and also keep the thermal clips. I should have a choice between a gun that i have to control its temperature and a gun i can just pop the thermal clip. They did a bad job of explaining this really, felt a step back in the technology of the universe.

"Oh noes my gun with infinite ammo can not fire because i have no thermal clip, and now i can't even let me clip cool down!!??"

It's a downer in the RPG aspect but I still thought they did a tons of things better to make up for that such as more interesting missions, better character development, and gameplay. Hopefully in ME3 they would focus more on the RPG elements.

Ryukaton

Focusing on RPG elements would be a step backwards. They showed it works great like this, they should just improve on their proven formula rather than add stuff to satisfy the minority and risking breaking their current gameplay core.

I agree with you,but still its pretty lame how Bioware claims it as RPG.

It's more lame that you think it's somehow lame to call a game that has its fair share of RPG elements an RPG.

I suppose you would have a problem with Atlus calling Demons Souls an RPG, which would be lame as well.

The graphics, the gameplay and the story. That's why.

Good point, it needs blind firing. It also needs ME1's option to manually duck. A

nd I love the thermal clips. An ammo system makes things more intense (having to come out of cover to pick up clips is quite fun, especially on insanity when each clip can be the difference between life and death).

lol wut?

The fact that you think it is lame to call a game with its fair share of RPG elements an RPG is lame in itself.

What the heck is so hard to understand about that?

Do you think it would somehow be lame for me to call Demon Soul's an RPG?
