Can anybody explain to me what's so good about Mass Effect 2?

Lol @ the people who claim Mass Effect 1 & 2 aren't action RPG's. As for TC's question for me it was the presentation, story, atmosphere and characters (not so much in the first ME though, only cared for a few of the main castin the first). IMO, it is the best Space Opera story that has been presented in a video game.

Screw RPG, I wish ME2 was more like a shooter, and I loved the game.

You think UC2 looks better than ME2 PC maxed out + you have a MGS4 avatar = you are most likely letting your SW fanboy goggles ruin a great experience in gaming. That or you haven't even seen it maxed on a PC, Oblivion maxed on my PC still looks better than any console game I have played.

Mass Effect 2 makes the universe seem small

So you play Diablo wondering why there aren't any dialogue options or multiple paths in completing quests?

Mass Effect 2 is an action RPG focusing on cover shooting mechanics and a variety of progression paths in character development.

You didn't like it, there isn't anything wrong with the game.

My PC can handle Crysis with graphics setting very high, and yes, I still think Uncharted 2 graphics are better than ME 2 on PC, heck even Killzone 2 was better

The fact that you said the gameplay is like COD+GeoW makes me think you didnt play the game, or you were drunk and playing CoD but thought you were playing ME2.

Reading the the popular gaming sites reviews will have a "Mass Effect" on your understanding on what makes it so good. :P

Never played ME2 yet but I heard it's not that deep and not very long either but when the price drops lower I will grab it on pc.

so they made medical exoskeleton/interface from the first game standard, who cares

what matters is they made the combat much better than the first game which at times could be a chore and penalized players who wanted to be fully biotic or tech

and besides simply making it better, it's even far more fun combat than most shooters lately, including Uncharted 2 or Gears of War

Well sir, I think you are wrong. It seems like you picked apart the few things Mass 2 changed from Mass 1 and hammered on them.

They took healing items out because nobody likes healing items. Health bars are not fun. COD didn't start the health regen thing either, so COD has nothing to do with Mass 2.

I can give you 20 reasons why it's an incredible game, but it sounds like your mind is already made up.

I will agree that the graphics are not as good as Uncharted 2's though. I've played all the "graphics king" console games and U2 easily takes them all out.

If people can call ME2 a shooter, then the same should be said of UC2. UC2 is more likepure TPS then ME2 is.

UC2 is a horrible platformer anyways

a good platformer is Mirror's Edge, it punishes you for making a mistake and gives you multiple routes that you actually have to execute

Uncharted 2 doesn't punish you for making mistakes, and there's only one route that you just hold the stick in a direction and maybe press X once in awhile

Wow, I never thought of it that way. I guess we should never bother to play another game with health regen again because they are all exactly the same.

Jeesh, so I guess I should just throw away uncharted 2 and borderlands as well, because they have health regen too.

Um no? In Mass when you are at a TPS part, it is pure. Third-person shooting is your only option. In Uncharted you can still platform ie climb over objects, climb up to a higher vantage point, run up and land a melee combo. In Mass 2 you can only vault over certain cover, even if its the right height (same goes for Gears), and the melee is one attack that you do over and over. U2 is undoubtedly more of a platformer/melee action game than Mass 2 is.

lol... what are the 20 reasons? Atleast he gave his, i think its a case of disappointment. Mass Effect was one of my favourite games, but what they improved from and what they took away in ME2 definitely prevented the game from being as good as the first. Its obvious he likes the game or some parts of it, and liked the the previous one, i'm in the same boat as him the only thing keeping me playing is the story. I mean the game is fun but its not really engaging me, like ME1 which was a proper RPG.

If Mass Effect 2 was on the PS3 and not the Xbox 360 then this thread would not exist. OP also proved that he's played about 2 to 3 hours of the game. Not much considering its a 30+ hour RPG.KittenWishes

hate to break it to you, but it is an RPG, it streamlines but retains all the most important aspects of an rpg

you can argue whether or not you think it's a good RPG, but taste doesn't determine whether a game is in a genre or not

in ME2 unifying Unity and medi-gel puts a limit on how many times you can revive party members, that's pretty much the extent of the changes made

It's the THPS3 of this generation? So you agree THPS3 is better than Ico, SotC, MGS3, etc?

Just like you don't seem to care for the ME2 score, I don't seem to care about the MGS4 score. That game bored me more than a game of chess.
