I don't think anything will touch the wii's stride until Halo3, that will only slow its stride, but the wii will previal once more once SSMB and galaxies comes out.

Nothing from the POS3 can stop the wii hype train.

Lack of 3rd party game sales? It killed the GC, but it didn't seem to mess up the DS any.

"Can anything break the wii's stride?"

Yep:

  1. 480p
  2. Crappy Games for the most part, with only a couple of good ones.
  3. Lack of Games
  4. WiiRemote that doesn't work that well for a lot of games.
  5. Price drop of the 360.
  6. Boring graphics
  7. Horrid Online
  8. And the final, the fad that just died!!!

Only Nintendo itself, if they can't keep good games flowing.  A steep price drop on the 360 and a massive flood of cheap HDTV's would probably hurt, too.

Meh, decent points but you forget that this system is aimed mostly towards casuals. Casuals don't know/care about this stuff, if they see the hyped Wii on a store shelf for $250, they'll buy it. Even the price drop of the 360 can't compare with the already low price of the Wii. Remember that casuals don't know how much more powerful the 360 is...These are the same people that spend $50 on a AC iPod charger, when they could easily make one for less than $3.

If sony hired an elite squad of ninja assassins to blow up all of nintendo's manufacturing facilities, then that would definitely break Nintendo's strided. Also, if Nintendo of Japan decided to replace Reggie with Jared From Subway, well, that would also cause some problems I guess.

Word of mouth works both ways, you know. Those people that enjoy the Wii (and there are a lot of us) show it to friends, who then go "Holy crap! This is fun!" and spread the word onward themselves.

And your completely right.  Cheap price for cheap console, uninformed casuals and the few Nintendo hardcores are going to keep the Wii up on sales for 2007.

But bottom line, the things I mentioned are gonna start to eat at the great "Wii" craze.  It's already happening in Japan, and soon in America.  Even casuals are gonna get somewhat informed of that rather lack luster games and visuals.  It's just a matter of time, then it's all downhill from there.

The Wii, great off the gate, but no stamina.

No crystal ball here, just the latest figures of Wii sales figures in Japan, yes, still sellling the best out of the 3 consoles, but not doing near as well or expected from previous sales figures.

This will happen in America also, but too be expected.  And really, Ford Pinto's sold better than Porsches, price is the main reason right now, but utimately the quality of the Pinto killed it off just like it will for the Wii.  Underpowered and a console that plays basically the same games as it has always has, nothing new besides the over rated controller that really only plays few game good, and the other majority of games it is rather frustrating and distracting.

The only thing I see stopping the Wii's stride is the Wii itself. Price/Brand name are the only things I see keeping the Wii going.

theboxmike
Why? There will be some awesome 1st games by then and more 3rd parties will be making games for it... also by then devs will know how to get the best out of the Wii... I think it could go this way; short of some major catastrophe.

The Wii's quality isnt in question, niether are its looks as it does look the best of the 3.

The only thing the Wii doesnt have that the others do is HD graphics, and for a little longer online games.

Whether you like it or not, you can't prove it. So, do you have anything else to contribute besides baseless speculation?
