Can I get some REAL opinions on Playstation Network?

I have Wii60 right now and I have been thinking about ditching my 360 for a PS3. The only thing holding me back is PS Network. Some people say it's good some people say it's horrible. So is it good is it bad? Does it lag? How long does it take to get in a game?

There is no less or more lag in PSN than XBL.

The only thing you're going to be missing are the extra features from XBL.

Both XBL and PSN are easy to use. But the differences are (main differences) is that PSN has most 1st party games using dedicated servers (no lag) but XBL has party chat..

Pretty much. If you end up liking Home, the feature trade off may be a wash for you as well. The PSN is damn good, definitely great considering its price. I wonder why Live Gold isn't leaps and bounds better considering it's 100% more expensive.

There is no difference in lag. And dont let the fanboys fool you, XBL is not the gift of god to gaming. If you have a lot of friends on XBL you might miss some of the features though like cross game chat. I would highly reccomend you just save up for a PS3 instead of trading in your 360, that never turns out well.

i don't know why people say psn is laggy, i never lag when i play mw2 or something else

More games have dedicated servers on PSN. Other then that, 360 has cross game chat. Both have their ups and downs. I never personally agree with selling a Console though. Especially for another one that has alot of the same multiplats.

It's the Same dang thing you get from Xbox Live. Except Free.

I don't have any problems with it. There's room for improvement but if you had used PSN back in 2007 and compared to how it is now, its almost a completely new service

My only prob right now is that the store has like a 2 sec delay everytime you click download (beside an item). Then when you exit the game description and go back to the main part of the store it freezes again. (for another 2secs)

so games are laggier on PSN.

I have both Tekken 6 and Transformers WFC on both Xbox360 and PS3.

WFC especially.(But that game has technical difficulties anyway)

but since TC asked.

PSN is not as well integrated into XMB as Xboxlive is in NXE.

NXE/Xboxlive going though spotlight, video, and gmae marketplace is more apparent and quicker to browse.

With PSN you have to go into PSN Store and then browse and game titles appear slower.

When you downloading games and demo you then have to install and it gets annoying do it it often.

Game updates take longer then on the Xbox360.

PSN needs a party system as comprehensive like Xbox Live

You can't background download while the PS3 is off it has to download first and then it will shut it self down.

Actually Cross game party chat, Xboxlive integration with NXE, overall download performance and a lot of ther little things that give Live the heads up on PSN.

I'm going to have a more closer look later on with PSN and PSN+ and compare them.

i definitely get more lag while on PSN compared to xbox live. updates take seconds on xbox live while they can take up to 15-20 minutes on PSN, you can also download demos while playing single player games on XBL. cross game chat and custom soundtracks are great too. overall, xbox live is a much better service IMO...

Be prepared for a lot of updates. Well, a lot depending on how many games you will be playing. The PSN (lag wise) is, from my experience, just as good. You will be dropping some features if you switch, the one thing I don't like about the PSN is that there aren't a lot of exclusive PSN games. Not that downloadables need to be exclusive, but when you look at XBLA they have Limbo, splosion man, shadow complex, and more.

But if your only concern is lag, then you'll be fine

From a gaming standpoint its pretty much exactly the same, CoD plays no different on either online with no lag differences. The main difference is in the service, with MS you pay but you do get some added features such as universal invites and cross chat gaming. Of course PSN is a damn good service now, if a bit slow on occasion (though not when gaming fortunately). Plus it has a browser.

After finally using XBL to play games, there is no difference gaming wise unless you use cross-game chat a lot(which I dont).

No problems whatsoever in my experience. Lag is dependent on your connection.

360 has better integration for games (i.e. you can see what downloads are available for the game and trailers etc)

Ps3 has more dedicated servers for exclusive games

They both have the same amount of lag.

FOR ME downloads are faster on PSN

the speed all depends on your connection

Is Live worth the $50 i pay over PSN?

NO!

If you want to know for certain, I suggest you do your own research, rather than asking people anywhere on GS. Go to the PS forum and your likely to find biased opinions leaning towards people claiming it's better. Post here and you'll just get a war of people with Fanboys writing comments based on no truth.

The facts are (I own both):

PSN

-Free

-No lag (depending on network conditions)

-Certain games support dedicated servers

Live

-Unified friends list

-No lag (depending on network conditions)

-Cross game private chat

-Cross game invites

-Cross game parties (up to 8 people)

-More people available to chat (quality of chat varies depending on the maturity of your opponent)

I didn't include PS Home because that edges towardsterritory such as paid add.Game Room also wan't included for similar reasons. I'm also not going to get into discussions about specific games as this shouldn't form part of this argument unless the game in question offers a significantly improved experience.

I will admit to using my 360 more than my PS3, probably owning to the fact that I have far more friends with 360's. I also feel it is a more user friendly service, with more people chatting. In my experience, downloads and updates seem significantly faster using my 360 than my PS3

I guess I was thinking 100% if 60 bucks. As in Live Gold is 60 bucks, which 100% more expensive because the psn is free. Maybe I'm saying this wrong.

Difference:

360 has cross game chat and PSN is free.

If you play a multi platform game, they have same connection method on both consoles.

Beside, 360 live usually gets more timely exculsive contents (DLC, demo and arcade games) than PSN.
