I don't see how it can get "better" than consoles, just like how consoles can get "better" than PCs.

"Better" is not the right word, they don't really compete as much as people think and both have definite advantages and disadvantages.

You'll be waiting for a superior version of Crysis for some time. Perhaps forever. Crytek said the game isn't achieveable on consoles without a large downgrade in visuals and gameplay (low RAM and HDD). As for 'better' than console gaming, what do you mean? Visual quality? Games library? Online capability? PC is already better in these these areas.

The point is irrelevant. All the advances in the console industry are pale shadows of what is occuring in the PC world years ago. Resolutions PC mastered nearly a decade ago are only just being achieved by the most powerful of consoles; online compatibility is slowly and sluggishly being included into every capable game. Hard drives are slowly being used to a greater degree to store content. All old news.

Consoles aren't bad, their different. They have a different purpose and different design. But trying to pass them off as technically superior to PCs is just silly.

Crysis could follow the Doom 3 route. It could be a Crysis with coop and downgraded graphics and physics. Even though coop could be added with mods.

Could be, but in my opinion, if Crysis flops, it'll be not because of a flawed concept, but flawed execution.

When I was referring to Doom 3, I was not really mentioning the fact that it flopped and the console version scored higher. I was just trying to mention the probability of an addition of Coop to a console version to compensate for the downgrade in graphics and physics.

It was a bad example.

Fun fact is, that the first mod (well edited files) for Doom 3 was enableing co-op on the PC, even before the game hit shelves (YAAARR!). Altho it was buggy it was later prefected with a true  mod  :P.

Right now I'd say PC gaming and Console gaming is pretty much on par.  For awhile pc's had the clear advantage, but they've lost alot of their audience over time because most PC gamers have to jump through hoops to keep up to date.

I think if pc games start becoming easier for casual players to keep up to date then we'll see the prime years of PC gaming return.  Until then it's just for PC nerds, and gamers w/ tons of disposable income.

  Are you serious? I don't think that HUGE amount of games can all be overrated. Just by saying that I can't take you seriously anymore (actually, I never did). I can easily say "Most of PS2, Xbox, and GC's games are overrated", just like what you said about PC games. Is it true? No. Why would you even post such a stupid comment?

No, they've lost alot of their audience cause nowdays they can't even make good remake of old PC games. Dumb shooters, more primitive then 10 years old Quake, broken HoMM without even shadow of AI and so on. That's why.

Now is actually a much better time for casuals to go into PC gaming.  With Alienware and other high end computer companies being bought by corperations you start to see that technology cheaper and more casual friendly.  I mean, look at the Dell XPS (not to suddenly switch topics or anything).  They're decent rigs and come factory overclocked.  Most hermits will probally scoff at someone for paying the amounts you do for such a machine (and from Dell no less), but the fact is that for a not-too-overwhelming amount of money you can have  a great gaming PC for the next 3 or 4 years, maybe more if you learn enough to switch out parts.  And it will still be a normal computer too.

PC Gaming is for people who like to use something called their brain while they play. That's why strategy games are either nonexistant or incredibly simplified for consoles, so the excellent ones stay on PC. It's like the difference between a Taco Bell burrito and caviar- one is pretty easy to get into and fairly cheap and still fills you up, but the other is incredibly rich and requires some mental capacity in order to wrap your head around its beauty. Its all a matter of opinion.

Yea but there was no need for the major computer building companies (Dell, HP) to actually buy these companies to make better equiptment.  They could of easily done this in house, but didn't because they wanted to assimlate them before they got to big, or buy out the name like what was done w/ Alienware.

Most I blame Nvidia and ATI whose business model has basically split PC gamers into 2 groups (casuals, enthusiast).  This makes it hard to keep up with current games and most pc gamers are better off sticking to a single long term game (like WOW, HL2/CS, or guild wars even) which means only a few games are going to sell really well on the PC.

Half Life is known as the game that revolutionised the FPS genre. Wolf and Doom started the FPS genre.
There hasent been such a great evolutionary leap since HL yet, even the 'oh so great' Halo cant hold a candle to HL.

Funny that the PC's AAA's have stomped on the consoles for so long.

Most of you guys that say PC gaming isn't superior, don't have a good gaming PC. In order to fully appreciate all the new games comming out, you need a good gaming PC. Much like in order to appreciate new console games, you need to buy the newest console. I have a 360 and PS3, and at the moment, I am playing FEAR and Halflife 2, Starcraft, and COD2, and can honestly say, all of these things have me saying PC gaming is superior

Funny how Dinner Dash is better than so many million $ 'next gen' games.

LoL ZOMG TEH CRAKDOWN PWNED BY DINNER DASH

PC is still the no.1 AAA/AA gaming system.

The only console that you cant properly compare a PC to is a Wii - which makes a great PC compainion.
Though you can use the wiimote on PC ;)
