It hasn't been better since the NES came out, maybe Crysis for Our the Windows Vista can do it....You'll be waiting for a superior version of Crysis for some time. Perhaps forever. Crytek said the game isn't achieveable on consoles without a large downgrade in visuals and gameplay (low RAM and HDD). As for 'better' than console gaming, what do you mean? Visual quality? Games library? Online capability? PC is already better in these these areas.
lol doubt it *waits for the superior 360 version*

Even though coop could be added with mods.

Right now I'd say PC gaming and Console gaming is pretty much on par. For awhile pc's had the clear advantage, but they've lost alot of their audience over time because most PC gamers have to jump through hoops to keep up to date.
I think if pc games start becoming easier for casual players to keep up to date then we'll see the prime years of PC gaming return. Until then it's just for PC nerds, and gamers w/ tons of disposable income.

Now is actually a much better time for casuals to go into PC gaming. With Alienware and other high end computer companies being bought by corperations you start to see that technology cheaper and more casual friendly. I mean, look at the Dell XPS (not to suddenly switch topics or anything). They're decent rigs and come factory overclocked. Most hermits will probally scoff at someone for paying the amounts you do for such a machine (and from Dell no less), but the fact is that for a not-too-overwhelming amount of money you can have a great gaming PC for the next 3 or 4 years, maybe more if you learn enough to switch out parts. And it will still be a normal computer too.
Now the DS is the system for using your brainz, leaving the PC with nothing : (I don't think the DS will get a Civ game anytime soon. ;)

I don't see how it can get "better" than consoles, just like how consoles can get "better" than PCs.QFT!
