I dislike Halo, MGS4 (Glorified fan service), Gears of War, and Resistance.

Sure they can. I hate sports, but acknowledge Madden's place in the industry. And though I'm not a fan of JRPGs, I appreciate Final Fantasy, if only for the cutscenes.

Good question. I was thinking of making a similar thread based on this question. I see this way too often. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean the game in question is crap.

MGS2 bored me to tears but I can see how others who liked the story could like the game. LBP looks boring to me but I can see that if you like building levels and whatnot, it would probably be a great game for you. Same goes for racing games. So yeah, I can accept the goodness even if I don't like it.

I can. For example think MGS is a crap series for me but it gets great scores and has a large following so something has to be there. Even though when I played it I did not like it but then it is just not a game for me.

No. I cannot. If a game isn't good, then i wont like it. It's that simple. how can i think a game is good if i don't like it? How am i to know it's good if i dislike it?

If thousands of people like the game which is good like MGS4 and I don't, that does not make me a fanboy.

It is simple: Tastes differ

Well said. I personally have no interest in LBP or MGS4, but it would be foolish for me to honestly believe the games are not good. I am sure they are, to those that like them. Resistance 2, I havent played yet, but I plan to with a friend of mine that has a PS3. I liked the first one. (However, he did spoil Resistance 2's ending last night... very interesting indeed! :) ) Good post, river_rat. I have to truly believe that even the people in here bashing other games in the most childish ways realize deep down that they really are good games.

Because everyone has differing tastes? I hate playing StarCraft(mostly because I suck at RTS games) but I still recognize it as a good game regardless of my feelings for it.

if it's a genre i'm not into (like american football) i recognise that it might be good regardless of what I think My view is that if you can do a good job explaining why something sucks then you've got every right to think it sucks

That's exactly how I feel. I consider Halo to be great game but I really do not enjoy it and I've tried all three.

I would answer your question with another question. What does it matter if other people do or do not accept a game as good? As long as you like it, that's what's really important.

Depends .. If I can see something good/interesting in a game, i will accept it as a good game. For ex:- GTA games - I don't like really them the but I see appeal of free roaming in that game God of war : I personally see this as just a button masher, but here also I can see the appeal of the game with fighting monsters, seeing various areas etc Then there are some games which even though had good reviews i cannot accept them as good games, as I don't really see what is so amazing about them For ex:- ME/FFX/Oblvion - I don't see much good about these. Good story - nope, Interesting characters - Nope, Nice Sidequests ? - Nope, Good combat ? - Nope (ME was decent)

Most people, myself included, can respect a good game as a good game, or at least respect others opinions. Sadly, many however, are too narrow-minded to do so.

And it's all geood and well to have your opinion. What TC is talking about is the difference of having your own opinion, and turning that into a declarative statement, which essentially tries to push that idea on others.

I mean I could not for the life of me get how combining the Final Fantasy universe with Disney (of all things) could even be conceived. But I see how many people rave about it and were barely able to contain their anxiety over the delayed sequel. So I have to figure they must have done something right and it can't be that bad with that mant people liking it.

Now if only others could apply that observation to the Halo series :?

Sure, but the problem is that I don't understand why people like Halo so much. Yes, I played the first one and didn't like it, and I don't understand why so many people do. I gues Halo 2 and 3 can be very fun online though.

Just because you don't understand, doesn't mean the reasons aren't there. It's just your perceptions, but if you simply observe how others regard something, that in itself should tell you there is something about said game. The problem with just saying "no, it's still crap no matter what they say" is the sheer arrogance of it, as if they are all stupid for liking something just because it disagrees with you. What exactly is to say your opinion is more valid than theirs? Better you just say, "Halo ain't for me, but it still has something going for it for others".

It all comes down to taste, and it shouldn't be hard to accept that others tastes are as right as your own.

I think most people that HATE Halo are just pissed because they were hoping the original Xbox would fail and it's one if not the MAIN reason that Xbox 1 had any kind of staying power....

A book, movie or game can still be good even if YOU dont like it. Alot of people dont like the starwars fanchise because it's "geeky" but does that make it a bad francise? Your opinion is not = fact, however you're still entitled to express your feeling regarding any game out there.

Thats not true, something being good or bad is a matter of opinion, if someone doesn't like something its their opinion and everyone has a right to that opinion, if someone doesn't like Star Wars, to them, its not good, its an opinion and if someone doesn't like something, they do not have to say its good, if to them, it is not.

Yeah, without a doubt, I do it all the time.

I do the opposite as well. I can accept that a game is bad (or atleast why others would think it bad) even when I really like it.

Soldier of fortune payback for example - bad game, but I think its awesome.

Timeshift for me. Its solidly average, but I really did enjoy it. It was like a popcorn action movie for me. Mindless, but very entertaining.

I feel the same way about Too Human. I can completely understand why people hate the game and Denis Dyack deserved all the crap he got about it, but I played the hell out of that game and I got my money's worth. It's strangly addictive for such a horribly unbalanced game that takes itself far too seriously for it's own good.

Yeah, without a doubt, I do it all the time.

I do the opposite as well. I can accept that a game is bad (or atleast why others would think it bad) even when I really like it.

Soldier of fortune payback for example - bad game, but I think its awesome.

I feel the same way about Too Human. I can completely understand why people hate the game and Denis Dyack deserved all the crap he got about it, but I played the hell out of that game and I got my money's worth. It's strangly addictive for such a horribly unbalanced game that takes itself far too seriously for it's own good.

Understand why people dislike a game really isn't the same as saying a game which you dislike is good. I liked Too Human, it WAS a good game, imo. Most hate it. that's fine, they're not playing it for me.

for example i honestly think halo is the most boring game ive ever played. the 1st one. but i accept it as a good game and can understand why many people like it. but it seems people think that if they dont like it then its a FACT that the game sucks and no one should like it. like LBP for instance, some one hates it therefore everyone must hate or your just a little kid. why cant people just say yeah i dont like that game but i can see why most/some would like it. but then i guess if everyone thought this way SW wouldnt be any fun. so im asking are there any game you guys dont like or maybe even just hate that alot of people enjoy

I'm not saying that if I don't like a game, no one should. There are games that I don't like, but I can understand why others do. That's not the case with Halo though. I don't like that game and I don't understand why so many do. That doesn't mean they aren't allowed to like it.

And again, that's just your lack of understanding, not any fault in the game itself.

Of course not. My opinion = fact which > your failed opinion about any game.

I only thought MGS4 was decent, but I can DEFINITELY see why it is praised(except for the graphics, I don't see them as being anything overly special.) Same with a large number of games.
