ok, i know this is the wrong board, but i really need a reply and im not getting replies on other boards. please forgive me

yea, i got a weird issue that isnt rrod related

the screen (i play on my pc monitor) had a bunch of green lines running across the screen. i restarted my xbox, and now theres no picture at all

i have sound and everything does work, as in the disc tray opens and games play, but theres no picture

so i tried to plug my 360 into a normal tv with the original wire again, but again i have no picture. though i think there may be a reason for that

when i used the wire to my monitor i changed the display option. i noticed then that if you pick an option that your monitor doesnt support that the screen goes black, and then you're in trouble

i was wondering. can someone give me a walkthrough of how many times one needs to push left, right, up, or down in order to go from the dashboard to the options blade to the video set up and then set it to a typical sd-tv setting. if that doesnt work then i imagine that its a hardware problem

If I'm not wrong, I think there is a switch on the AV part that plugs into the 360. You can pick "TV" or "HDTV" TV is 480i. I'm pretty sure thats it. Check manual if I am wrong. I know there is a switch though.

To enter the display setting, Press right twice, press A twice

Press A again for HDTV settings, to change your resolution
Or press down and then A for Screen Format options.

Go to youtube. They have walkthroughs for XMB, so they should have one for the dashboard.

REforever101

That won't work. Whenever you plug your 360 to a new source, it automatically gives you the best possible picture. You need to call MS. Might be hardware issues.

What you're describing is the E74 error, when the game runs for 5 mins then freezes with lines all over the screen. But in that case the sound also stopped.

yeah i sent mine in. the funny thing was that it stopped working 2 months past the 1 year Warranty it had on it and i didnt have to pay anything. So i recomend just calling 1-800-4-myxbox and see if its going to cost you anything, then you can decide for yourself what you want to do. but from what i heard, its about $120 to repair if its out of waranty and from what i recal, its a 1 year warranty for whatever goes wrong with it and a 3 year warranty if it get the 3 red lights

It sounds like your display setting is set to the wrong resolution. You should try to find away to reset it. as someone already suggested, remove the HD. and then boot up your console.

Thats what it was, the TC didnt mention he got a screen with the E74 error so maybe it is just something wrong with this display settings

that would be great, but does that really work?

i mean, dont they check it? or even if they dont wont they fix the wrong "problem" and i'll still be left with a broken one? or will they just send me a new xbox

in which case, do i take off the harddrive before sending it in, so i dont lose my saves?

Do what I did. Leave your 360 on for 10 hours wrapped in 4-5 blankets. When it gets the RROD, get it repaired for free. Just make sure it doesnt catch on fire.

Also, you keep the HDD.

oh...very crafty

i can just tell them it rrods some times but not always. so if they do check they'll just assume it was working then....but then they'd notice theres no picture

but hey, i guess if the lie worked for you, it could work for me

That's what you do. The hardware failer detection is failing to detect this also happens on consoles that get rrod. Some times you get the 3 red blinking lights sometimes you don't with the same console.

setup the console on the TV and switch it from HDTV to SDTV on the cable, this will automatically switch the xbox to standard definition. then run the "initial setup" option in the System panel. this will restore factory settings without losing game saves. this happend to me when i switch from 32" 720p to 60" 1080p setup

What if you click the switch on the video cable to use SDTV and then plug it into a normal TV? Does that fix it?

i believe your 360 is toasted because it says it will revert back to the last settings unless you save it.

so try to remember: after you goofed the settings, did you tap "A" even once? if so, you're screwed and you have to go though the steps you're asking about and i'm too lazy to go through.

This issue is called "sound but no video," and has been reported extensively on engadget, Kotaku, and Joystiq. It is virtually the same as RROD except your console will not be repaired by Microsoft for free. You will have to pay for the repairs.AmyMizuno
a.k.a. tell MS you have rrod.
