Sony's profit as a whole dropped by 5.3% (£441million) compared to 2005.The estimated production cost of a PS3 is over $900 and the retail price of the PS3 is around $499 or $599 (depending on what version you buy). So on average sony is losing say $350 on each PS3 (taking into account the 20GB version probably costs less to produce). Not knowing how much sony makes from each game sold, the fact that there is only around 10 games (worth talkin about) being released this year and no other forms of revenue directly connected to the PS3 it seems it could take a while for the PS3 to gain a profit.
With this in mind even if sony sell the most units (lol) will they not have lost millions or even billions on the PS3 and in that case could they really be crowned next gen champions?

The only reason they lost so much money in 06 was because the start-up production of the PS3,every company loves money when starting production of a consoles, most likely the profit loss will minimize over time.Sony does way more than just make consoles, they make cd players, stereos, tvs, movies, music,tv shows, all kinds of hardware.
