My opinion: Sony likely to stick with the PS3 for long time, if the 10 years plan is effectively being used, then i think that's possible, just matter of time and PRICE.

Really, once a good 200$ PS3 its the market, the sales will go from good to astronomic.

Will it beat the PS2, unlikely. Could it surpass 80 or even 100 million, yes.

The PS2 has around 140 million sales. PS3 will be lucky to get to 90 million.

I guess it's possible. It won't happen within this generation though, and will likely sell alongside the PS4.

Well it will have to do alot more than surpass 100 million...the PS2 is close to 150 million in sales...its unlikely that even the Wii will pass it much elss the PS3.

That will take a hell of a long time.

The PS3 has been selling well since it reached the $299 price point. Almost on par with the PS2 but not quite.

Between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010, the PS3 sold 14.3 million units. This is well above the PS2's first year sales on the market of 10.61 million, but below its second year sales of 18.07 million.

If it continued at its current annual rate, it would reach 66.7 million sales by June 2012 and about 110 million units by June 2015. The PS3 is on track to outselling the Playstation 1 but not the Playstation 2.

The competitors to Sony arent total pushovers like last gen and Sony doesnt have all the games anymore. Look the gamecube was the weakest in the lineup last gen now the wii is dominating in sales. Also the 360's library of games i comparable to the PS3.

They're successful because they say they are. It'll sell more than the PS2 because they say it will. Not that it ever actually will. Oh well, I like mine and it doesn't matter anyway.

I don't think that was a far fetched goal before our current economic situation.

The possibility of recovering economy along with a drop in price over it's lifetime to $100-$150 for a console with a blu-ray player (considering MS is still holding fast against it), I could see it reaching 90-100m lifetime.... ps2 numbers are a bit far fetched.

note: I belive they will reintroduce PS2 compatibility with PS3 when the stop PS2 production.

If they have a fully decked out 200 dollar ps3 for 2011 then yes. Very possible.

edit: ok actually nahh, but it will get close. Maybe 80 million.

If the PS3 is kept out and supported for 20 years, maybe.
