Microsoft is clearly trying to use the same tactics that Sony used to make the PS1 and PS2 succesful. For example, the PS2 had a one-year head start ahead of the competition, so did the 360. Secondly, the PS1 stole many exclusive games/seriesĀ from the N64, (look what happened to Final Fantasy series, etc). The Xbox 360 is also stealing exclusives from the PS3,Ā exactly what the PS1 did to N64. Thirdly, Microsoft is getting a vast RPG library, and we all know that RPGs are needed for a consoles success, take a look at how Japanese X360 sales went up when Blu Dragon was released. Just add Lost Oddyssey, and then Microsoft may finally gain foothold in Japan.
The PS2 sold about 11-13 million in its first 12 months, and the X360 sold about 10 million in a similar timeframe, which means it is very close to competing with PS2 sales. If the X360 sold good in Japan, that sales gap between X360 and PS2 would be even closer. When Halo 3 is released, it will make more 360s fly off the shelves, but lets hope that the 360 can sellĀ 80 million by the time its succssor comes out. With its awesome games coming up, I wouldn't be surprised it can almost reach PS1 or PS2 sales in half a decade. :)
