Can the Xbox Series S save Nintendo?

Ok, hear me out.

The Series X and even the PS5 are monsters compared with the Switch and with the speculative Switch Pro coming in, and aiming at PS4 Pro level of performance (hopefully not levels of noise too), the difference in power will still be too great for the 3rd party landscape to suffer significant changes on the Nintendo platform... Except this time Nintendo won't be alone and both Nintendo and Microsoft might mutually benefit from developers having two low end machines to develop game versions to.

Hell, this won't happen, but it would even make it easier for MS to have Gamepass available in the Switch Pro.

(I do realise Nintendo needs no saving)

xbox serious s isn’t the lowest a dev will develop for..that prize goes to pc....hence the minimum spec requirements.

Doubtful, last time I looked base XB1 didn't struggle to play Outer Worlds.

If anything Covid will save Nintendo, that and the crisis with semiconductors and chips and shit. Publishers will need to cater more games to bridge the 8th and 9th gen systems and in there lies the potential that the Switch will still play contemporary games.

In end I don't think it matters because I expect third parties will support it less down the road. Nintendo will still make great games for their system and that's really the only reason I care to get their systems.

Just honestly wanted to generate some discussion because I think it is possible that accidentally both can benefit from each others existence.

People need to quit acting like Series S is the lowest spec device. PCs min spec is far lower, and will continue to be that way for years to come.

I can't say I agree with your train of thought specifically with the concept of saving Nintendo.

Why would a portable system aim for PS4Pro level of performance? Be glad if they get to 2013 Xbone levels but possibly have access to DLSS. Nintendo will get to PS4 Pro levels by 2035. That's my earliest estimate.

@shadyacshuns: Not just the last sentence, my whole post just talks about how it might be beneficial for both to have two lower spec machines next gen and specifically regarding Nintendo how it might help with the lack of third party support. I love Nintendo and the Switch, couldn't care less about lack of power but it is true that 3rd party versions for that console have been terribly limited by the hardware.

The last and only Nintendo console to have outsold a competing ps/Xbox console was the Wii. The competing console for Nintendo against the ps4/x1 was the Wii-U, and we both know how that story went. Yes the switch is currently ahead of the ps5/xsx,xsx but the ps5/xsx,xsx isn’t even 6 months old yet, while the switch is going on it’s 4th year.

So if I don't care about third party aaa games on Switch, I'm "triggered" and "insecure" because I don't think like you?

What are you talking about? Switch has been sold over 80 million consoles in under 4 years, significantly beating out PS4 and XB1. It's on pace to be one of the best selling Nintendo consoles of all time, likely surpassing even the Wii. I have no idea where you fanboys get the idea the Switch needs saving.

Well there are more than heavy rumors that a 4k capable (and still highly capable while undocked) new updated Switch is coming.. as a matter of fact I even think Nintendo confirmed it. (not the specs, but that a new console is on it's way)

I think the extra power in Switch pro is rumored to give it longer battery life, and upscale games to 4K. Devs won't really be able to push higher polygon counts and effects or anything. That's my understanding anyway.

PS4 pro power would be neat, but that's gonna take some fairy dust that Nintendo doesn't wanna pay for.

Just look at history...the last time nintendos system was actually graphically competitive was in the gamecube days...it was actually more powerful than the ps2, but weaker than the xbox. After that they brought up the wii, which was slightly more powerful than the gamecube, and couldn't do HD, only up to 480p graphics. Sony and MS came out with their next gen consoles, the ps3 and xbox 360 which aimed for 720p. Then sony and ms came out with ps4, xbox one, for 1080p gaming, nintendo brought out the wii u, something barely anyone remembers. But the wii u was on par with ps3/xbox 360. Then nintendo brought out the switch, which was finally on par with the base ps4/xbox one, right before sony and ms brought out the mid gen refreshes, followed by the ps5/xbox series x.

If their past history is anything to go by, the best anyone can hope for from nintendo is they unleash a console on the level of the ps4 pro. But if im right, they will probably make an even weaker console and give people some gimmicky featre.

Game Pass can never be on the Switch. Hardly any of its games have been ported to the Switch.

Ultimately what people need to understand is that Nintendo does not need saving. Nintendo does the saving. They saved the industry from were Atari led it in America. Nintendo was around in the first generation when they released their first console in Japan called the color TV console. Nintendo is a company that will always be in the industry because they know the industry better than anyone. So they don't need the most powerful system as some people may think and they don't even need strong 3rd party support. Well that's because I own a Switch for Nintendo's exclusive offerings, it was never intended to be 3rd-party option platform for me cause its pretty well known most gamers have other better gaming systems to play 3rd-party on it. There's a reason why Nintendo can get away with low hardware, people will always buy Nintendo console for exclusives, 3rd-party games on it is just a bonus to some.

When different consoles are on the market at the same time, competition is happening. Somewhere along the lines people have forgotten not every competing console released at the same time or relatively close with the other(s). Sometimes the less powerful console lays a beating on the bigger powerhouses.

Ummm until the switch sells over 115 million units, the ps4 still have the switch beat, no matter the pacing. It have outsold the x1, but haven’t outsold the ps4 just yet, and since when did I say that the switch needs saving?

1. I see games that shouldn't exist for Switch (DOOM, DOOM Eternal, Witcher 3, Apex Legends, etc.) all the time. So not sure what you're talking about. Not to talk about the shitload of indies it gets.

2. I've seen several 360/PS3 games released on Switch, and usually just go "lol, that old game, weird", and then forget about it.

I just don’t understand why lems feel that Nintendo needs saving. If someone needs saving , it’s the Xbox division. The Xbox have been coming in 3rd since gen 1 .

You people have been claiming that Switch would fall off a cliff at some point for years. As it stands, we're not even sure if it's peaked yet, and it hasn't even had a price cut. (And Nintendo does do price cuts on hardware; Wii U was an exception because the production costs never decreased.) Obviously we can't say for sure that it will, but there's also no reason to believe that it won't. People believed that it would start to decline once it was no longer the newest console on the market, and that hasn't happened at all.

It's going to outsell Wii this year, and will likely cross 120 million by the end of next year even if it declines a little, unless Nintendo launches a full successor this year. If it gets a mid-gen upgrade the potential increases even more.
