Can we agree X1 failed to live up to the Xbox legacy?

Original Xbox = hard drive, xbox Live, Halo
Xbox 360 = revolutionary online, 360 controller, best multiplats, killer exclusives, Kinect
X1 = failed cable box/gaming hybrid, 900p, no more exclusives

Kinect is a plus for the 360 but not for the Xbox One (where the Kinect is vastly superior)?

As a long time Xbox fan, and even though I still love my Xbone, I agree that it is probably the "weakest" MS console to date. However, for all of it's faults, it does have a lot of good things going for it too.

And also, I think this negative experience with Xbone will push MS to make the next console something awesome.

I would say that across the board. All the consoles failed to live up to the legacy set before them. Handhelds too.

You give a Gameboy, a Gameboy Light Boy, large pack of AA batteries (or AAA - I forget what size they took), Zelda - Link's Awakening, Final Fantasy Legend I, II & III, Final Fantasy Adventure.....I'd be set for days and days.

I think the Xbox One is selling at about the same rate or better than Xbox 360. What Microsoft really screwed up was making Xbox One a powerful machine which it was not. It was made with late 2011, 2012 mid-level tech for a late 2013-14 console.

It didn't/doesn't excite many ppl that's for sure.

The Xbox was never great. It just had third party timed exclusives and the 360 had a head start which later lost that advantage. Once Live got competition and the PS3 got going the 360 turned into what the XBoxOne is from launch. Kinect really ruined the XBox too. I called it before this generation and I was right. I will say that the previous generations of XBox were much better and the 360 had 3 good years ,much better than anything the XOne will have for sure.

It hasn't just failed the 360's legacy; it has also just flat out failed. As far as the latter goes, though, I only think you can really say that when considering what Sony has done to Microsoft this gen. Pure brutality.

Yup. The PS4 certainly isn't knocking the ball out of the park almost 3 years in like the PS2 did. WiiU has the most high rated exclusives of the 8th gen but the majority of its line up are exclusives because the 3rd party of the industry wants little to do with it.

It has outsold the Xbox 360 in the same time frame availability on the market, a console that launched with no competition for an entire year... It has done this in the face of arguably the worst console launch ever, it has done this in the face of horrible PR & media attention, a continued negative stigma in the community, 720p and 900p games, the Kinect, a $500 release price, in the face of the PlayStation 4, and god knows what else you people can conjure up...

And you don't think it's lived up to its legacy? Right...

I think so- Xbox consoles have always been extremely developer friendly, great at courting third party support, known for progressive online features, the most powerful consoles at the time of their release, and been synonymous with shooters and action games- the Xbox One is none of these.

It has not been outselling the Xbox 360 since October of last year- pretty sure the console has actually fallen behind now

Char you were a big fan of Xbox 360, why you went for NX and PS 4 over X1 this gen? For lack of exclusive games ( most being ported to PC ) or you didn't enjoy the Hardware capabilities of X1? :)

@indzman: xbox360 was great in many fronts, pushed a lot of nice "new" new things. This was not the case with xbox one on any front

Indeed. I've Shitload of games on Xbox 360 and still replay those even today. TBH i see no appeal on X 1 as its most games are ending up on PC. Why waste money on a Console when i own a gaming PC? During Xbox 360 only GEARS 1 got ported to PC , i still enjoyed my Gears Entire Series, Halo Entire Series, Crack down 1 and 2 , Dead Rising, Saints Row 1, Fable 2 , Perfect Dark Zero , Project Gotham Racing , many many Arcade games.

Ye and putting exclusive games aside xbox360 did many things better than the ps3, now ps4 does about everything better than xbox one

Well I for one enjoy my X1 for Sunset Overdrive, FH2, Halo 5, Rare replay, BC list still growing with games I still play/haven't played, more of my closest Army buddies play there. It is no doubt the cool thing to hate and everyone will rationalize their opinions and life choices for themselves as we are entitled to. I don't care that many games will go PC. None, zero of my closest buds are going out and building gaming PCs because of it and call me crazy but I like gaming with those guys.

I personally never owned any Xbox console in its 14-15 year history. But you can't deny if MSoft decides to retire the Xbox brand, it would be remembered for stuff it brung to the table.

@indzman: The Xbox One has failed to sell itself to me on a very fundamental level- there are no games out on the thing that I want. Eventually, there will be Scalebound and ReCore- but as of right now, there is nothing.

The 360 beat the PS3's ass for most of last gen right up until the start of the current gen.

Sounds like you did a crappy job picking out a console then. If you don't like the games MS has already put out from the word Go with X1, you must not have known that Halos, Forzas would be their big guns and one of the reasons to own the console. Also, like I said, there's a long, long way to go. By end of year you may enjoy Gears 4 another biggie in the MS stable. Plus others as well.

I think with X1, MS delivered on some real Greatness with Halos & Forza but you own a Bore and continue to Await, have fun with that lol :P

Yes, I do have Halo and Forza, but most X1 exclusives are going to PC now, putting the dagger right through my heart.

But but I love the New 3DS. I'm a Nintendo handheld fanboy after all and I have over 16 digital 3DS games.

But anyways, PS4 has been doing well with more games now but other then that, both Sony/MS aren't ready to move away from Xbox 360/PS3 and this gen kinda proves that but still, I been okay from what I seen so far.

Well, I'll give ya that if you really are a hardcore PC gamer, one in which you update the PC on a regular basis. If that's the case then there really isn't much reason to own the X1 with Win10 now the OS. Sell the console and stop complaining on SW, just seems like bias opinion to put X1 in a bad light.

Going forward for certain, if you're a console only gamer like me the X1 is and should continue to deliver the gaming goods. Top tier PC gamers need not apply....

Without the XB1 you guys would literally have nothing to talk about, and would have to play the PS4 you all squawk about.

I swear like 90% of all threads on here are Microsoft/XB1 hate threads, even the mods post them.

It failed big time because MS felt into motion controls gimmick trends Wii made popular. They thought that was the future and the way to go ... which backfired hard.

As forbes stated, the Ps4 is the Exception not the rule when it comes to sales and the Xbox is doing as well as most consoles do.

the problem is you are comparing it o a completely unfair benchmark, the Ps4 is the fastest selling console of all time so calling the Xbox one a failure because it has sold less is just laughable.

Xbox one exclusives have been going to PC since Ryse and dead rising 3 yet still it's sales have increased year on year so sharing exclusives has not made the console obsolete like many people tried to claim.

Is it as good as the Ps4? clearly not, is it a failure? NO ,not at all.

which explains why it's sales are still increasing year on year despite having shared the majority of it's exclusives with the PC since it launched.

it may be obsolete for people that can afford a high end Pc but for those that cannot afford a high end rig and want to play Halo, gears ad forza it's not obsolete at all.
