Can we safely say the PS3 wont be a runaway 100+ million seller?

The PS1 and PS2 both sold over 100 million units and had a drastic majority of the video game market, at like 70-80%. Now, can we safely say that the PS3 wont follow suit? The PS1 and PS2 never had anything as close to this amount of bad hype/news surrounding them. It just seems the PS3 is getting beat up with negativity every week. Hardcore fans are getting slapped by losing exclusives. Casual fans are getting slapped by the price and not being able to play with a new controller thats the 'hot' thing. I still call myself a cow since i own 70+ PS1/PS2 games but every month im losing reasons to fork over a weeks check for a PS3. And today i lost another reason...

I can say with utter confidence that the PS3 or Xbox 360 won't reach 100 million. I think the Wii might get close.

People need to work more hours and stop complaining that the PS3 is too expensive.

I think they might still win but I doubt they will break 60 million.

Just wait for the big games: Gran Turismo, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy to work with solid multiplatforms like the Tony Hawk series, Virtua Tennis and NFL 2K  sports game.  Don't forget big Xbox defector Ninja Gaiden Sigma as well as a new Soul Calibur game.  One last thing is past games like Virtua Fighter 5 will gain in popularity as people get the system.

Price isnt the only problem. You need reasons to justify the price. Why would i pay $200 more for the same exact games?

The only console that has a chance at those numbers is the Wii. 360 won't do it due to having to change its image in Japan. PS3 won't do it because Sony's incompetent (lmao 600 dollars). Wii on the other hand will most likely take Japan because it's using the same philosophy as the DS. It'll probably take Europe because Europe's fanbase likes games like singstar and other casual games more than stuff like Gears of War. The real determining factor on whether or not Wii makes it is its long-term appeal to the Americas.

All it takes is one good game. Look at the 360, Gears of War made there system sell good.

Dude the PS1 had Resident Evil exclusive. When the PS2 launched it lauched with Resident Evil already have been released on the Dreamcast. Then the Gamecube got Resident Evil exclusive. Capcom is Capcom. The PS2 had a huge audience and they ported Resident Evil to the Gamecube exclusive for a good while before they figured out their mistake. You should put too much stock in Capcoms moves, they just go after the quick buck.

Depends how long the PS3 will sit on the shelves. I don't see them getting near 100 million mark in the next 5 years. But if they hold it on the market for 10 years and in the end the price drops to $100 - $150, it could very well go beyond 100 million. However that can be said for every console.

The difference between the 360 and the PS3 is so far the PS3 sells pretty well in all regions its reasleased while the lions share of the 360s fanbase is in NA. Eventually it will hit its peak in NA while the PS3 and Wiis numbers will grow due to selling well in THREE regions as opposed to one.

Agreed. Though I didn't know that Europe liked stuff like that... I think most Americans love sports games like Madden. If Wii can gain better Madden games and a few violent games like GTA (which may never happen), then it will probably sell well in the US.

Now how do you know that? Stop using teh crystal ball and just admit you don't know what will happen. No one does. And I doubt that PS3 will last 10 years.

Though the Blu Ray is selling better than HD DVD, it seems like such factor is not making the PS3 any more attractive to the average consumer which comes as a surprise to me, since the PS3's numbers are way below expectations. I know most cows say that the numbers are going to rise someday for some reasons, but I've never heard of a product that suddenly became a major success when it was failing in the first place. I'm starting to think that the PSP will sell more in it's life than the PS3.
