The constant releasing of systems concerns me. Sega did that near the end before it went out of the console business. What do you think, SW? Is Xbox releasing new systems too quickly? This is in response to the rumors of MS announcing new systems at e3.

Right I'm sure you're very concerned about Xbox TC.....anything is possible but I seriously doubt it, this is the market now and I presume next year or the year after there will be demand for better hardware and Microsoft is just meeting demand.

The way I see it they intend to pump out lots of software from all the new studios and they are also making sure the hardware aspect gives customers choices. To me the fact there are rumors they will announce the Anaconda and more at E3 is further evidence of their continued commitment to the console space.

MS will still be in the hardware capacity in some way so it's quite different to sega. Ms are making profits whilst sega were bleeding money.

I think Yes, but in a different aspect.

I think MS will move away from consoles, maybe not next gen, but eventually. I think they will still continue to publish games BUT they will also focus on services more with Game Pass and Xcloud.

I think with a digital future this is a good thing. The console game stores need digital competition, because right now Sony and Nintendo have a digital monopoly on their respective consoles.

Plus MS has never been good at hardware, Zune, Windows Phone have been flops, and the X1 is struggling against the PS4 and Switch.

Surface is ok I guess

@uninspiredcup: Agreed.

Microsoft would have had to impress me at some point to be at Sega's level.

I still consider the early to mid 90's as one of the best gaming eras because of Genesis and Game Gear.

They might eventually only release streaming boxes and leave the console business. The thing is they will never win a generation so they have gone more towards getting their software everywhere.

So you think the most important thing to MS is "winning" a gen? You don't think turning a profit would be A #1 priority?

You don't ever compare Sega to MS! That's insulting right there cause Sega was an awesome gaming company that prevented Nintendo becoming a monopoly.

And the people who bought the Xbox One X sounds like they are happy with the purchase they made and we see lots of Xbox One fans here saying this. Their money to spend, my money will always be on PC!

Sega failed because their console market share went from 60% down to 12% in two years. The Saturn was what killed SEGA from the console business, especially in America since they only released in select retailers.

SEGA went all in with the Dreamcast and lost, essentially putting all their eggs in one basket hardware-wise.

I think Microsoft could continue making consoles indefinitely and keep going, regardless of sales.

The market is very different these days. Microsoft is well establish on services and software front and have enough hardware buyers. They can easily be that 3rd party company who also provide specific hardware choice in xbox. Right now they are offering there games to very different hardwares compare to xbox. Yes I mean pc is different enough also. This is very much happening with MS. Your going to buy xbox because its not a full on pc, switch or mobile device. Its simply the most powerful console for you your Faux K TV. The day they become full 3rd party with no xbox is when they put there games on playstation.

Sega still is a good company, lol. But if MS continues to branch out and offers their games elsewhere, while also coming up with these new hardware iterations all the time, it might not be well for their hardware business.

Yeah because they don't have any first party shooters, open world racers, Multiplayer games, rts, action platformers.

MS designs and contracts manufacture x86 PC hardware as the reference quality build standard for PC clones to follow.

The main reason for MS is involved in hardware business is mostly due to Intel APUs having crap iGPUs. MS wants an APU with large GPU with smaller CPU combo instead of Intel's large CPU with small GPU combo.

Microsoft could be the next SEGA in a sense. Not many people in the 90's ever expected to see Sonic on a Nintendo platform but times change. I could certainly see Xbox games making the crossover some day also.

Nintendo might do something similar having seen how successful some of their mobile games have been lately.

If they decide to ditch hardware and go with a storefront like Steam and/or make third party games, they will still not be even close to what Sega is in terms of their games.
