Capcom's Community Manager Seth Killian has revealed why PlayStation 3 owners of Super Street Fighter 4 haven't been given the 'costume catalogue' option offered to Xbox 360 players.

The feature allows players to download information required to view new costumes when going up against other players online, without having to pay for and own them.

According to Killian, since the feature requires players to download additional data through Sony's and Microsoft's networks there are costs attached to it. While Microsoft was happy to cover these expenses, Sony wasn't as willing.

"On XBL, those costs were covered by Microsoft. As a result, the data is distributed to everyone, so even if you have not bought the new costumes, you can still see them if you're fighting against someone that has because you still received the new data required to display them." said Killian.

"For Sony, those significant costs are not covered. As a result, you only get the new costume data when you actually buy the costumes. Those that don't buy the costumes can't see them, because the new costume data isn't present on your machine, and so you only see costumes you already have the data to represent."

Killian qualified the statement by saying that the situation was made more complicated since the fee varied depending on region.

Basically you can't see the new customes that people have bought off of PSN during a match unless you have this update that allows it. Like in Dead Rising 2, you had to download DLC off the PSN Store / XBL Store to play with people who had the bonus items.

ah ok thanks... Meh i barely see anyone use ANY costumes anyways... and i doubt anyone really cares when going up against someone what costume they wear.. some are downright ugly so im thankful i cant see them.

I wish everyone would hate DLC, but sadly this world is divided up between the intelligent and the not-so intelligent.

or the people who buy DLC that is actually worth the money.*looks* at undead nightmare,GTA Episodes, some ME2 content (shadow broker),skate (the DLC with new places to skate are worth the money always like something fresh to thrash around in) or the Forza 3 car packs.

Now, anyone who love overpriced DLC which should have been included on disc enough to back Capcom and blame Sony!? This is stupid! They want to charge us for costumes which should have been unlocktible instead of paid! :(

Is this supposed to be something new? We already know that the datas transfered have to be paid from whoever offers the stuff on the PSN :S Also, who seriously cares what costume some random guy you fight online has? oO Besides that, the DLC for SSF4 is extremly overpriced :S

Good. Down with these retarded DLC costumes. I dont want to see the stupid costume you bought for $1.99. It reminds me of the current state of humanity.

Why pay money for it? In the past you could unlock the costumes by doing challenges or something like that. Now greedy companies like Capcom wants to charge for it.

I didn't say it's not stupid but he made it sound like the lowest depth humanity could possible sink to was buying a $2 item...

Agree. There's still some good DLCs at $2 to download. But downloading costumes, it'll make Capcom even more greedy and who know the consequence from blindly buying their overpriced DLCs would be? I just want to cry seeing the once decent company like Capcom has become so low. :(

i think publishers and developers find microsoft a lot easier to negotiate with in terms of game content. sony just seems more strict, but i guess that can be understandable.

Crapcom at it again...they could have updated SF4 with extra characters and execute SSF4 update to the original game...but instead they release SSF4 for more cash and DLC like extra characters and customes for even more $$$$$. Crapcom isn't even relevant anymore with it's casual garbage.

That's not true at all. Developers have spoken about the size limit of XBLA games being a hinderence for uploading games to Live. The remake of the "Oddworld" HD game and the Prince of Persia HD remakes can't even be placed on Live because of the size limit. The developers of the PSN game "Joe Danger" even broke down why they chose PSN over Live because of the fact that Microsoft takes a sizable chunk out of the profits of games that are uploaded to XBL whereas Sony takes a marginal amount.

Dude, Capcom has been releasing updates and charging an entirely new $60 since the days of SF2. Behold SF2, SF2:turbo, SF2, champion edition, SF2Hyper fighting, SSF2, and SSF2 turbo. SFIII followed a similar pattern. I guess I'm saying NEVER buy the first SF edition released.

Oh, and already they have said we would have to pay for downloadable characters in MvC3.

Yeah.. Do any of you ever stop to think maybe they released new versions due to balance issues or just wanted to add new characters? Why do you kids think you're entitled to everything for free and that the gaming world should revolve around what you want? SSF4AE is going to be released (supposedly) via DLC. I bet most of you will still find a reason to cry despite saying they should have released SSF4 as DLC for SF4.

I side more with people who abuse animals than people who spend $2 on skins and encourage greedy publishers to put out more BS DLC. We as gamers share a grave, and every time someone buys a Chun Li skin or Oblivion Horse Armor, they dig a deeper grave for the rest of us. Thats why the majority DLC market is complete ripoff garbage or material thats already on the disc waiting to be unlocked.

It never used to be like this. If developers or publishers tried pulling a stunt like this back in the day, theyd get more hate than Activision does. But somehow, this generation probably with the help of Microsoft and XBL has been brainwashed into thinking that developers and publishers deserve our money for microtransactions of material that they created during the game development but locked out because they know the gullible masses will hand them money for it.
