Capcom's COO says the company wants to make PC its main platform for games, according to a translated report from Japanese outlet Nikkei, and reiterated by Bloomberg reporter Takashi Mochizuki.

Capcom also aims to have 50% of its sales on PC and 50% on consoles by 2022 or 2023. Chief operating officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto made the comments to Nikkei at this week's Tokyo Game Show.

Capcom also announced this week that Monster Hunter Rise, previously a Nintendo Switch exclusive, will come to PC in January 2022. While some of Capcom's games have come to PC after console releases, like Monster Hunter World taking an extra eight months in 2018, many of its recent releases like Resident Evil Village and Devil May Cry 5 have arrived on all platforms simultaneously.

Record-setting sales numbers potentially play a role in Capcom's decision to increase focus on PC. The Resident Evil series became Capcom's first to surpass 100 million lifetime sales. According to Capcom's investor relations portal, Monster Hunter World has sold 17.3 million units, Resident Evil 7 has sold 9.8 million units, and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has sold 8.2 million units. Those are cross-platform numbers, but PC sales certainly played a big role—leaked data earlier this year suggested World sold better on PC in the west than on PlayStation.

Capcom's most recent financial report, from July 2021, showed the publisher achieved sales figures of ¥95.3 billion ($859.6 million)—a year-on-year increase of 16.8%. Capcom's arcade sales suffered during the pandemic, dropping 18.4% (to $183 million) and operating income dropping 87.7% (to $1.4 million). Capcom's videogame division made up for it, though, raising net sales up 25.6% (to $691.3 million) and operating income up 53.1% (to 340.2 million).

Good news, but one request. I know it would be too much to ask you to stop using DRM, but could you please find one that doesn't hurt game performance?

Cool. They should start by bringing DMCV SE over. And fix Mega Man X collection on all platforms while they're at it.

Wonder if they'll look into running CPT events on PCs.

I'm glad to see Capcom warming up to PC.

Call me crazy, but I've been pre-ordering most of their games on PC for the last couple of years. I hope they still honor to remove the DRM after certain amount of time.

If that's the case, they better optimize them well. It makes sense, tho. PS5 and X are just pc's that run some graphical settings below the lowest available setting on pc, anyways.

Whenever a publisher take interest, it usually means "we gonna try **** you".

Well I won't say "no" to this. The fewer exclusives the better.

Yeah to an extent. At the very least, exploit.

Those Capcom leaks from last year showed PC was MHW's best-selling platform outside of Japan:

That's why they're bringing Rise over to PC.

So they love PC so much that they waited months to fix RE8, only when the pirated version proved that the fault is with Capcom's DRM?

PC is the future everybody knows it in the industry. Entire asia / india is all PC land. Consoles are on the way out and probably replaced by streaming.

Still i am not sure if anybody on PC cares about capscom after there last re8 debacle i am not sure if anybody still cares about there games.

But then again japanese games are mostly proper trash ports when it comes towards PC versions. Almost like these guys have no clue what they are doing. I avoid them like the plague.

@Gatygun: "Consoles are on the way out and probably replaced by streaming."

Well, I think you're right to an extent, but I see consoles & physical lasting a few more gens due to constraints with streaming on a worldwide scale with some countries not having adequate internet speeds.

I also think their is a large number of middle aged gamer's as well as some younger ones that are very much proponents of physical collections & traditional consoles & companies that continue to keep making traditional consoles may corner a key niche part of the market.

Nintendo for instance adapting with a handheld that can also be docked is a possible future proof smart move. And it seems they are in it for the long haul, as they really have zero known preparations to move towards a streaming type platform/service.

Capcom will get it easily when they do stuff like MHR and MHStories only on 1 console + PC.

All of those people will move over the next day.

I had physical media when i was a kid and nobody wanted streaming services. netflix launched over here ever single physical outlet for movies died the next day. Nobody cared. Nobody bought dvd players, nobody bought dvd's nobody bought blu-rays. They just want to put on there tv click a button and watch the next movie without worrying about paying stuff, doing stuff and done.

This will happen with consoles also. People need to realize that console gaming main appeal = cheap and simple. Guess what's even more simple and cheap? streaming.

Now streaming right now isn't taking off that well because tech is simple not there yet. but not having to buy a ps6 for 500 bucks, 2 controllers, 80 euro games but just 20 bucks a month with a netflix subscription attached and u can just play whatever u want whenever without waiting? its mighty appealing to anybody that isn't a hardcore enthusiast. and those people will go the way of the dinosaur sooner rather then later when they realize they are wasting money.

And not to forget generations don't exist anymore at that point as they can upgrade there servers every single day of the week to better ones. So not artificial limits anymore. People complain about memory? put more memory done.

PC advantage over console is its a work machine and a work device, which means it will always stay relevant and this is also why in asian country's it becomes extremely dominant because u can't ban PC's and every PC can play games. U can already see it in steam where half the comments are asian. Its growing massively. I honestly wonder what in 5 years the steam users will be i can see it double easily if not tripple.

About nintendo. they make a ton of money on there hardware so they probably will keep forcing themselves forwards and as its highly interesting for parents to buy it for a safe alternative and on the road solutions like vacations i can see it stay relevant for longer. But still they will sooner rather then later after that also move over.

We will see tho, i think capcom is doing a good move here, same with microsoft and same with sony on moving more towards PC solutions.

Asia is mobile land, if anything. PC and consoles are both on the way out in Asia, with mobiles taking their place. Japan used to be console land, but is now mobile land. China and Korea used to be PC lands, but now they're mobile lands. And India has always been mobile land, since it wasn't a major gaming market until relatively recently.

As far as i can see the Deck isn't available for pre-order in Japan though which is a shame. It's just the EU, UK, Canada and the US at launch.

Hopefully Valve get a distribution network going in China, Japan and South Korea soon (and sure throw Australia and New Zealand in there also :P). For Japan especially the deck could be a very interesting proposition for them.

@osan0: if the Steam Deck is successful in Europe and North America, Valve may consider selling it in Asia and other regions.

PC gaming is still growing in Asia it's just that mobile is just growing much faster. The PC market is starting to somewhat adapt to the mobile market taking over, we're getting PC ports/versions of games also being developed for mobile since the PC market is still very sizable in Asia and emulating mobile games on PC is common so developers are trying to fill in that market. We're also seeing the trend of handheld PCs being created in China. The Steam Deck has been trending in Asia more than the West so when the Steam Deck finally available over there we may see some growth and more cross expansion of mobile and PC.

Reminds me of when Ubisoft talked about how much they loved PC only to screw pc gamers over a year later by not putting their games on Steam anymore and taking Epic exclusivity deals.

Same, I never had major problems with RE8 apart from raytracing being broken. BUT I surely won't miss it if Capcom forgoes its heavy use of DRM.
