Last few generations, because casuals and core gamers were under one roof (the PSone and PS2) all types of games sold.

Now Nintendo has taken them and left them on the Wii, so there is no hope of these casuals 'graduating' to core games

As a result, less and less core games will be made before people have NO reason to make them

On the Wii, yeah.

But the PS3/PC/360 will be fine.

Look theres always going to be a group that will never play alot of games and the wii is great for them. They would never have been attracted to gaming without Wiisports or Wii fit, and many probably games like mario kart which they would never had done otherwise. But for the kids that are playing Wii many of them will eventually want to take it to another level as they grow up, moving perhaps to a Sony/MS console or hopefully a PC. I still see the Wii as a stepping stone, just not for everyone.

You do realize that the music you grew up with, and love ... will also become less popular as new kids get their new music?

Your `core' likely took the place of what people before you loved and considered `core'. As continually happens.

Time moves on, adapt and enjoy it - or only play old games.

---

To think that any new gamer isn't going to go on to deeper and more complex games, who are only gaming for one generation - IMO is naive.

Smart post. Just 'cause you think it's hardcore, and TRUE, don't make it so. Same with people who think rap isn't music.

True, but who cares? They play casual games, and casual games will be made for them, Nintendo is the only one that seemed to switch focus to more casual gaming, Sony and Microsoft are unaltered from it.

Soon enough it will be the case that is NO reason to make big-budget core games when you make low budget crappy games and sell them to the masses

Titles like MGS4 and Halo still sell more then casual titles, you have Wii-Sports and that Wii-Play or w/e that sold so much because of the bundles, but things like Carnival games will not sell as well as something like Call of Duty 4, big budget titles will sell big, baby's first steps simulator does not, and thus there is reason to make big budget games, no one has stopped making big budget games from it, so I don't see the danger.

This argument is one of the lamest around. Killing gaming? Yeah right. I'll see you in 10 years, where the industry will still be here, and the so called "hardcore" games still exist.

That's it right there. Nintendo has always taken the lead on casual gaming, I think. Look at last gen. Though the PS2 had a lot of casual titles, the gamecube did them better and had a look to their games that just lent themselves to young gamers. But as blue-hazy said, gamers will graduate. Gamers who had the gamecube last gen probably graduated to a PS3/360/PC this gen. Of course, you'll have SOME that will stay loyal to Nintendo. But most will look for soemthing mroe from a different system.

Because those are seprate studios, Sony doesn't end up with its Gran Turismo team for example, making weight loss games for the PS3, while the head of Zelda and Mario does. Also Buzz games are pretty popular in Europe, Sony even works with some schools to get educational versions into class rooms, and singstars are just like the song pack releases on Guitar Hero.

True gamers = people who are not lying when they say they play games.

Or so I'm assuming.

Evidently so many people are lying about actually playing video games that there's a crysis about it.

Maybe the PS1/2 didn't get to that market yet. I honestly think the Wii pulled in a different demographic to be honest. One that is bigger then the so called "hardcore" tag everyone is using.

I dont mind casual gamers as such, its not like its a new aspect of gaming, they were always there.

they can have their "casual" games, as long as "hardcore" games arent changed or affected by them......

So because Buzz is 'pretty popular' in Europe makes them ok for Sony to make, but because WiiFit, WiiSports, and the Brain Age games are POPULAR in umm.. On Earth, its wrong for Nintendo to make? Yeah, ok, you're right. Who am I to think you're wrong? I'm sure Nintendo are all hermits who sit in their offices and help NO ONE anywhere. Yup, I bow to your awesomeness. Singstars are like Sony Pack releases? How much do Song Pack releases cost? How much do SingStar cost?

why because they all buy wii music? what about those that graduated from ps2 did they only play guitar hero and eye toy. the wii has plenty of games to get people interested in hardcore gaming, and i'm pretty sure mario and sonic got most of the 20+ gamers into gaming, maybe even younger than that.

so true, there are less games that take longer to beat. if a person is really good at a game a person can beat something in a day compared to last gen where games were like 1- 2 week games.

Now Nintendo has taken them and left them on the Wii, so there is no hope of these casuals 'graduating' to core games

As a result, less and less core games will be made before people have NO reason to make them

Your thread seems to be misleading and bias. First, you are not a true gamer. You are a elitist gamer in which you perceive that your kind of taste is better than others. Second, casuals has always be and will always be the driving force of the video game industry since Atari, NES, and PS era. A true gamer is the one who embraces and accepts any kind of gaming without prejudice and bias. The reason why casuals are so into Wii is the same reason why X360 and PS3 have indirectly isolated casuals by catering too much to hardcore gaming taste and perhaps elitists like you.

Here's another fact, the real threat to ELITIST gamers and perhaps to the video gamer industry is the developers themselves. Check the link tounderstand who's killing video game industry: http://www.slate.com/id/2210732/

Casual gaming is simply the by product of gaming becoming a more widespread and "acceptable" (bad word but you get the point) form of entertainment and expression. There have always been mediums (books, television, movies) aimed at pleasing or appealing to those who don't make a hobby out of reading or watching or in gaming's case playing. But there has always been books for readers, movies for movie nuts, and there will always be games for gamers. BAW less.

Why no hope of them "graduating"? I believe Nintendo is trying to do just that! They draw in new gamers with "casual" games like Wii Sports, begin the conversion with bridge titles like Mario Kart Wii, and finish off the process with "hardcore" games like Corruption.

I honestly don't get this generation of gamers, instead of being happy that new and interesting games are coming out, like World of Goo and Little King Story, No More Heroes and Mad World, they consider "Halo 3.5 plus maphaxors" that will probably sell 10 million copies, to be the true hardcore game.... Its like a game has to have guns and be Western copies of themselves, in order for them to be "hardcore" Doesn't anyone find that ironic? As opposed to the indie devs that are trying to make something new and different. Sigh, times most definitely changed...

True gamers?

I laugh at that:lol:

A true gamer doesn't submit himself to a specific type of group, a true gamer plays whatever he damn well feels like playing if it's fun

So what you just stated will never affect a TRUE gamer;)
