For me if Nintendo had done the right thing and stuck with us hardcore gamers and didn't bring casuals into it just for the sake of it the the gaming industry wouldn't be going the way it is, not that there are bad games on the Wii, just Nintendo are aiming for the the wrong market with the casuals and would seriously make gaming much better if they just started focusing on the hardcore group.

The Wii library is strong enough for me to consider getting one quite often. I always get put off by the abundance of crap I'm presented with on store shelves but I do know how to purchase games over the internet.

The wii may have the worst library since the sega saturn. It is an abominatoin. There are probably 5 games worth owning on that whole system. Super mario galaxy, zelda tp, mp3, mad world, and no more heroes. That said, I bought mroe games and hated them.

Ignoring the opening for obvious reasons, I like the wii and its games. It suits a certain taste of gamer, which fits mine. It has problems but it can be enjoyable if you are willing to give it a try.

Well you're thinking very narrow mindedly. How would you like it if microsoft and sony did only casual games and nintendo did hardcore and casual, and suddenly started to stop making hardcore because the casuals complained the games on the wii were crappy because they were really nerdy and too complicated, you wouldn't like it because there wouldn't be any games you'd like to play and you'd be completely left out. It's a good thing nintendo doesn't listen to people like you >_>

Lol, and this is one of the narrow minded things I was talking about. They still have lots of hardcore games out there but they are also making casual, and now that they have a lot of casual games and not just hardcore the hardcore ignore all the good games they're given and think about all the casual games there are. Also it is a good thing they're reaching out to another audience, just like you'd like it if all the companies did before were casual games. If you still think its wrong than you are just another selfish, narrow-minded hardcore player. Btw I know you'll probably just say there aren't any good games except like maybe 5, just like the rest of them say, so if you need I can just pull up a list of tons of good hardcore games to prove you wrong :P

Totally agree. I've never seen such a group of whiners in my life. Sorry, but everything does not need to cater to you, in fact the more I watch the less sympathy I feel for the hardcore position. Why bother trying to please someone who can never be happy?

Don't like the Wii? Don't get one.

Just like books, movies, TV that doesn't appeal to me ... I ignore it. You aren't the only people on this planet you know, or the only gamers.

There are a few RPG and FPSes for the Wii, but nothing that catches my interest, also I think it's wrong because they are selling out to casuals just for cash.. If you were a long time supporter of Nintendo and they left you for middle aged mothers then you would be pissed no? Anyways, like I said, I'm just going to ignore the Wii this gen.

Selling out? Isn't the purpose of a business to sell? I have been playing NES systems my whole life and buy far the WIi is the best. I mean the virtual console alone is worth the Wii alone. Really think about this, hey you can make millions and millions of dollars appealing to all ages or try to appease a small minority of video gamers. It's a business and the Wii is beating the Xbox and Ps3 because they went for a majority audience and not the minority of these booger pickers like you.

You know?I don't see any difference between the type of games Nintendo has been making for the Wii from the GC and N64.Less then 20% of Wii games are for Casuals while the rest are for Hardcore gamers like me.

The Wii doesn't go for the Casuals that much. They have more then enough games to keep me intrested in my Wii and if you saw this years E3 for the Wii you would see they went all-out for the Hardcore Gamers so like the PS2 it's catering to all types of gamers. You should seriously get your facts right and not make assumptions that are not only stereo-typical from a Sony or Microsoft Fanboy but also assumptions that are just plain wrong.

Birdmen and the Casual Fallacy

There are lots of interesting articles to read on this site, but this one is a good starter. Shows you exactly why Nintendo knows just what they are doing. They pulled it off just fine 25 years ago.

The Wii may be going after casuals, but Nintendo is definitely going after both. It's simply the 3rd party bird-men that overmarket to the casual, thinking that they're some magic get rich quick scheme.

It's not as much them appealing to the "wrong market" as it is them failing to appeal to everyone by mostly appealing to casuals. Take the DS for example. It has tons of games for people of various taste and is a justified purchase for almost any kind of gamer. The Wii on the other hand supports a lot of casual games and has the most shovelware on it than any of the 3 home consoles. Searching for Wii games at a local store can be really depressing cause there is so much garbage to dig through. If you take gaming more seriously than others and have a particular taste in games, the Wii most likely won't have games for you. The Wii needs a stronger, more balanced library in order to appeal to both sides, not just one. That's why I sold mine.

Can't agree more, but I understand that some are true to there word and simply don't like the games availiable on the Wii, but alot jump on the Hate Wii Band Wagon that just keeps on rolling!!! and If Nintendo done the "right" thing as the TC said they would certainly not be selling as many consoles as they are and the Wii would of most likely failed.......

They're actuallly making a lot more money by marketing towards casual gamers. They don't care about gamers with a loyalty to a faceless corporation. The entertainment industry is all about the money.

I am so tired of the elitist attitude gamers have had since the wii's release.

Whilst i hate the word "Casuals", There has been a definate decline in third party software quality from last generation. Then again nintendo was third last generation and has to survive, the audience that has bought most of the Wii's is one which does not really buy games. This is Bad. Not for Nintendo has they can market their games pretty sucessfully to this demographic (despite titles like MK:Wii and AA;CF being totally Meh) but it means the third parties trying to make decent games get left out in the cold to say the least.

If you were a long time supporter of Nintendo and they left you for middle aged mothers then you would be pissed no? Anyways, like I said, I'm just going to ignore the Wii this gen.

Yandere

You realize that the original Nintendo players are now middle aged, and yes - some of them are women. [Who would be mothers by now]

It could easily be argued that they are going back to their original customers. Which aren't boys currently 12-24.

My girlfriend and I play the Wii together a lot. She demolishes me on platform games time after time. I guess she is a 'casual' gamer? After all it was the 'casual' games that attracted her in the first place. Malstrom is right it would seem.

I agree my Mom used to play the NES, Genesis, and SNES all the time until the 16 bit gen was over but now she plays games again. When she started gaming she was in her late 20's She quit when she was in her middle 30's but now she is gaming on and off again. Not as much as she used to but she is playing them again.

I understand that the Wii isn't the console for some. Many on SW has chosen not to purchase one. Fine. But why moan and complain that nintendo has abandoned you, as if the looked up your address, looked at you gaming set up and decided to give you the proverbial finger and make a console that you hate? Sorry, but corporations follow large demographics, not individuals. Business decisions by a corporation shouldn't be taken personally, so many stop acting like that is what's happening.

"the wrong market".

My my, how hardcore gamers are so full of themselves.

blazingneo32089

They're just mad that the Wii has been outselling they're precious HD consoles worldwide since it launched! XD! And I play on my 360 more but I don't hate on any console.
