I'm a huge arcade gamer but only to the arcade racers since everything else dead. Nothing can replace the arcade machine for a racing game. Battle Gear 3 is the latest arcade but Wangan Maximum Tune 3 will be out soon. With stick shift and the best sound equipment, the experience can't be had at home.

These are the latest racing game machines arcade places can get there hands on.

I live in an Asian saturated area so we do expect great Japanese arcades to be brought here.

Not where I live unfortunately. Even when I lived in Ottawa's Asian section there was nothing. Tons of bootleg DVDs, games and VCDs, but no arcades. Last time I actually saw a dedicated cabinet was at the bus terminal. It was an old Area 51 machine.

I think the bar accross the street has a Ms. Pac-Man tabletop and the Flash Gordon pinball machine though :)

I took my Niece to Chucky Cheese close to her birthday. Does that count? :P I haven't been an arcade gamer for a long time, if I do play I stick to Neo Geo stuff like Metal Slug.

Thanks for the reply guys. Here's a sample vid of what Wangan is like. The music is just epic. Love the atmosphere. And yes they are asian.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=nsteQeqowiI

Here's another one. It's the last level, stage 80, of Wangan Midnight. It's crappier because the camera person can't hold it well, but it's a 4 way battle between Wangan's top 3 racers and yourself. Showing some dialogue between what the opponent is thinking.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YH04qFOz4ac

And for kicks, this is the Wangan movie.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=VflMrSHuJ30

Screw Fast and Furious. This is the real deal.

There used to be so many arcade stores around where I lived, now there are none. Nowhere. It's sad, but I was basically going to arcades for the great games and graphics that i couldnt get at home, which I now can...so not that big of a deal.

We have a good sized arcade near here. It has House of the Dead 4, the new dancing game, and i think one other new machine.

Consoles are the arcade killer!

whatever, consoles are cheaper, have more epic games, and have the gmiicky games youd get at an arcade (i think HOTD4 is coming to the 360 with a new light gun )

I guess my only problem with arcade games is that the price has sky rocketed for certain games. I really don't fell like paying a dollar for about 5 minutes of fun. That also comes down to the fact that I've never been very good at arcade games.

People spend upwards of 40 bucks a night on Wangan. But seriously, the Asians here have the cash to blow... I'm one of them.

2 bucks for the card, 2 bucks per play, 80 stages, 162 dollars minimum to beat the game. It's definitely more expensive but it's like a 5 star restaurant, you can't experience the best without the price.

That's kinda nuts to grasp, although I spend a good $200 a week on console gaming.

After 20 nights out playing Wangan, you could probably pay off a good chunk of a cabinet :P

Well, arcades are only existing now because of these high quality machines. Playdium is pretty much dead because the finances behind the concept totally blew. Paying off for mall space and maintening machines are at an all time high. There's 2 arcades near me that have Wangan, Battlegear machines constantly being played. Even those Asian sticky picture machines, which are 8 bucks a pop, get used every so often that the owners need it to make some money.

I just wonder how crazy it is in Japan because everything is arcade there. They even have Trading Card Games used in arcade machines. Those must cost quite a bit to play.

Yeah, that SEGA game, Oshare Love Berry or something. Apparently it's crazy popular and sells millions of cards. They made a DS "extention" to it also I think.

With the g25, a surround system, and a cockpit setup you can have the arcade racerexperience at home. Probably a better one at that.

About arcades in general, I used to love them, but I wouldn't do it anymore. There is just no reason for it.

I highly doubt whatever game is on, is better than Ferrari F355 challenge though.
