I was reading the new Gameinformer magazine and came across an article on mlb 2k8. Interesting aticle, the game looks good, even thought i dont think it will rival mlb 08 the show. But anyway the article went on to say that at shipping the 360 version will not have the features due to the fact it wont fit on the cd. On the otherhand PS3 will ship with everything because blu ray can hold it.

Believe it or not, this is a victory for Sony. Who knows how many games are going to be cut short for 360.

Really? Any big features noted being left out? This is interesting for a sports game.

Yeah, I remember those Blu-ray not needed threads. It was like they ignore the transition from cartridge - cd- dvd...

The article says: "...there is so much content included in this game that parts of it won't fit on Xbox 360 disc."

It later goes on to say: "If you are a 360 owner wondering what is missing from this version of the game, never fear, 2k is planning to have all missing content avaible day one via download"

So pretty much since the 360 cant handle it all at once they need to send out update to round out the game. I would just be concerned being a 360 owner knwoing that your systems discs cant hold a basic baseball game.

I realize that was the wrong thing to say. I am aware that games dont fit on Cd's anymore. But that isnt exactly what the thread is about.

Congressional hearings for all your teams major superstars concerning steroid abuse and commentator ability to talk about everything else but the game at hand. If you play as the Cardinals, you get to hear the idiot Al Roboski slamming on the Cubs even though the Cards aren't currently playing them...

No, it's just showing that Blu-ray, while biased fanboys like you claim "isn't needed", may play a key role in not only getting exclusives, but enhancing a multiplat due to a large developing canvas. Couple this with the PhyreEngine and boom.

I would like to know what extra features tis new MLB08 will have instead of the 360 ?

Blu-ray hasent played any role in getting exclusive all the games sony is "claming" to use the power of blu-ray have eiter been new IP's or are exclusive to the ps3. I havent seen one multiplat that looks vastly superior to there 360 counterpart with the hlep of blu-ray.

But now some features of a game have to be taken out of a 360 version because DVD9 can't handle it. Pretty big news. I can see why Wii60 fanboys get so defensive, smart, and edgy about this. It's hard not to be bitter when you get proven wrong.

The article doesnt say exactly what. The point of the post was tos how that if 360 cant handle a abseball game at shipping, what will happen when a game that needs more space is being developed. Do you think every company will want to start send out additional patches just for 360 owners?

Multiplats look the same because they are developed the same.

Look at MLB 08: The Show, versus 2k8. That's taking advantage of the space on a blu ray

I'm so tired of these damn blu-ray posts. Xbox 360 came out in 2005! There was no better format available at the time than dvd. Most PC games also started using dvd by then. Blu-ray was not around for Microsoft to use. And if they had used something experimental like hd-dvd and it failed then owners would be screwed for movies right now. They did the right thing at the right time. Sony is the future for sure but wait until the next Microsoft console comes along. They have learned and it will blow the PS3 away for sure in the tech department.

Oh and don't forget about BurnOut Paradise suppose to look and play better than the 360 and also the lighting is suppose to be better in COD4 aswell. But yea the real muscle for any given system is shown in their exclusives especially for the ps3 since the 360 holds it back so much lol sorry just couldn't resist the last comment.

Wrong disc space has nothing to do with visuals. This has been discussed many times before. Oblivion benefitted from extra development time.

I like how now that the first piece of evidence that Blu-Ray obviously is going to out do DVD is out all the 360 fanboys are in such denial lol. All like, WHAT FEATURES ARE MISSING?? ID LIKE TO KNOW!! WHAT IS IT!! Countless times it's been said on these forums that it's inevitable that BluRay version of multiplats will feature more stuff, where as 360 goers will have to DL this, and the fact of the matter is that alot of people still dont even have their 360s hooked up to an internet connection. +1 for Sony.

Thats it, thats all PS3 has over the 360? A game that they got full year later and barely edges out the 360 version, and another game that came out six months after the 360 version. Your all powerful machine has got to do better than that, really your hyping a baseball game! c'mon man read your BS before you post it and see how lame it sounds, quit embarrising yourself.

What can a baseball game possibly have that couldnt fit on DVD9? Stadiums? nah, lots of reused textures nothing special there. Hmm maybe voice commentating cut down on the 360 version (Sound does use up a lot of space). If thats it you can have your blu ray.

All this Blu-ray argument will be so old in a few years when Microsoft makes a game system with a blu-ray drive or better. It will probably knock the socks off the PS3 with faster read times and whatnot. Sony got a late start which allowed them more time to sit back and 1up the 360 at every turn. This cycle has been going on in games since the 80s and will continue until there is only 1 system for everyone. If that ever happens...

This is just the begining of the need for Blu-Ray. And by the time M$ comes out with a box using the format and the money they will have to pay out to the number of companies involved the cost of the box would be as high if not more than the PS3 started out with. Then they would also need the rest of the hardware that can handle this technology unless they want another RROD.

I think thats the developers fault unless the game is packed full of features that require different models, textures and sound for each feature. Adding in different game types wont effect the size of the game on the disc.

Anyway it is good for PS3 owners but still doesnt add up to me at all, atleast not for a baseball game.

BlackPlague1

What difference does it make if it's all on the disc when they are making the missing content available via download from day one? 360 gamers still get everybit of the content. So exactl why should 360 owners be worried when they'll still get the complete game?

Speaking of missing features has anyone seen voice chat for UT 3 laying around anywhere?

Boy this thread has turned into another pointless cow attempt at ownage. The 360 version WILL have the content and you're all basing it on a GI article. You know, that magazine you get free for getting a 10% Gamestop card and can be read in 10 minutes while you're on the toilet. Yes, it's that insightful....

Somehow, I have a VERY hard time believe that a baseball game, of all things, is the first game that truly warrants Blu-Ray...

They are offering all the content on day one as a direct download.

What this comment above says is Blu Ray itself NOT needed, but a HDD is;) At least 360 users who got the core can slowly feed more money to MSFT by upgrading to a HDD. I know some of you want all of the data on one disc, but being some Blu Ray games require installs and I personally am a PC user, it basically shows that a hard drive with an internet connection is GREATLY more important then Blu Ray is for gaming.

MSFT just needs to can the no HDD idea...

Yeah, I remember those Blu-ray not needed threads. It was like they ignore the transition from cartridge - cd- dvd...Cute_Red_Panda

Wouldn't matter anyways. PS3 has a standard HDD that can install games like PC. Thus Blu-Ray is not needed.

[QUOTE="BlackPlague1"]

[QUOTE="xXHackettXx"]What a joke, your telling me Oblivion fit on one disc and MLB 2K8 cant!? If 2K games spent the time they could easily fit it all on one disc for the 360.sirk1264

Im not on the developing team with 2k. Its just what i read. Plus Oblvion looks better on Ps3, cause of the power of blu

Wrong disc space has nothing to do with visuals. This has been discussed many times before. Oblivion benefitted from extra development time.

That is a very untrue statement. That is like saying games don't need to be more then the 700mbs CD because a good dev can make visuals, sound, and so on fit on a CD.Oblivion while a good game, the big world has nothing to do with whats on the DVD.In fact because Oblivion is a big world on a DVD its has very limited textures, sound, and the same voice acting for most NPCs which take up for most the room on the DVD to begin with.Oblivion is the same look almost everywhere you go in the game nothing really changes.

If Oblivion could be a bigger size it could have higher res textures and more textures at that, better sounds, better animation and the list goes on to what can take up space that would make the game better. You maybe say if Oblivion can do it,a baseball game can.Its false because Oblivion is a year old and gaming advances and new technology are put into games to make them sound, look, and feel more real at a very fast pace.
