Change my mind: Xbox would not be allowed to make or promote "Returnal"

without it being called Gamepass Fodder™.

Let me be clear: If Returnal, or a game like it, were Xbox exclusive or was being promoted by Xbox, Cows would not give a liquid shit about this game. They would not like it in theory, in concept, or in execution.

Smaller games like this, when they release on Playstation, they are called "Sleeper-hits" or "Indie Darlings". When Xbox releases these games, they are called Gamepass Fodder™, and Cows would not only call these games trash, but Xbox and Gamepass itself would be attacked for these games even existing. This game is not only Gamepass Fodder, its Gamepass Fodder that Cows are happy to pay $60 for.

Scorn is one of particular interest. A game that is not even an Xbox exclusive, that was announced and shown on PC before the Series X was even revealed, and everyone on SW loved it then. But when Xbox showcased it on Series X, suddenly its trash, and looks like a 360 game? This was being said on SW (I'm sure for no other reason than its tangential association with Xbox). Any Xbox game that is not a blockbuster AAA game will be compared against TLOU, Uncharted, and GOW. Unless the PS logo is on it. Then smaller/mid-range games are allowed to exist, and be called "sleeper-hits" and "maybe this will be good", etc...

I cant be alone in believing Cows are literally only hyping Returnal so hard right now because of the PlayStation logo. Xbox simply could not get away with making this game, without being attacked by Cows. Lets talk about it.

I'd give it a shot if it were free. The closest thing to hype I have for any game right now is Outriders. Looks like Uncharted's multiplayer, Mass Effect and Destiny had a love child.

Also... what do you really mean by MS wouldn't be allowed to make or promote the game if it was theirs? Moronic internet posters at minimum shouldn't have an impact on anything a dev does. While in our dystopia reality, publishers listen to these morons, MS would still make the game regardless of what other platform fans are bitching about.

If you pop over to Sony fanboy HQ (Resetera) there are plenty getting hyped.

@StrongDeadlift: I'm hyping Returnal because of all the games I've played from that developer (Housemarque) they've all been great, fun games. Resogun is still one of my favorite PS4 games, I've actually gotten back into playing it and it's still a blast. Maybe the others hyping it are doing so because they know the developers background which is rock solid, and not because it's just another game for a Sony platform.

The Medium is developed by Bloober Team that made trash called Blair Witch.

In contrast, Returnal is developed by Housemarque that has created masterpieces such as Resogun and Nex Machina. Know the difference.

The Xbox gamer victimhood line of thinking is so weird. Why would Xbox not be "allowed" to make Returnal? People call Game Pass games fodder because of the constant chain of hyped up 60-75 Meta average lukewarm games that go up on it, not because of a certain type of game.

Instead of crying about a few people being excited about a Sony exclusive (which, if anyone is excited it's because the studio has a good pedigree), try demanding better from Xbox. Hell, Xbox gamers are telling us we should be hyped for CG trailers and not actual games.

Somebody has never played a Housemarque game... There’s hype surrounding that game because of the devs track record. GamePass has produced more “fodder” than hits at this point. And the PS5 is gonna start getting exclusives at a faster rate than new games appearing in GamePass. It’s not Cows fault that they’re in a better situation software wise. If that makes you feel a way, maybe it’s time to switch sides? That or just stop feeling inadequate about your box of choice.

I've suggested that 1000 times. Lems have a pretty clear case of Stockholm Syndrome. They've been held hostage in 3rd place for years, but instead of demanding the Xbox team right the ship, they've become sympathetic to their captors.

Came here to say that the hype is around the dev and not the game itself but it's already been said. I'd say it's like Playground games working on a new Fable. Fable is an established IP that lost some steam but people are super hyped for it not just because it's a Fable game but because a well liked developer, Playground, is making it.

Lems can hype random timed multiplats all they want. And Cows can do the same. How impressed are Cows supposed to be , really? Lems aren't even impressed by Final Fantasy VII Remake (a GOTY contender) , and the announcement of Final Fantasy XVI.

But this is a PlayStation Studios game made by Housemarque with support from Sony. If Lems can be interested in or hyped for ReCore , Quantum Break , Scalebound , Sea of Thieves , and whatnot pre-release , why be upset over this? How are Lems any different?

Personally , I'm interested

• I played and enjoyed Super Stardust HD , Dead Nation , Resogun , Nex Machina
• This looks like a 3D version of Nex Machina , but more creature focused , and darker
• They are adding some story/context to the Housemarque mix , and I like stories
• It looks fun
• I like some sci-fi / horror games
• Knowing Housemarque , I assume it will be challenging
• I played and enjoyed some roguelike/rougelites in the past , so that premise is fine by me. I think I have an idea of what to expect.
• $70 ? I have Gamefly , I can wait until it's cheaper , or even offered on PS+ lol. I have options.

But I try not to get hyped too much over new IP's because it's hard to tell what the results will be. I got caught up with some of the Cyberpunk pre-release hype , so I am only human. It happens. I must be better.

Obviously games like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West are easier to hype because I have that recent history with the IP and they appear to be a lot more bankable titles. But this is new and a little out of Housemarque's norm , so time will only tell. I'm interested in seeing more , and hearing more for sure.

I like the developers track record. As soon as I saw it was them, I was sold.

As for xbox side of things, I feel those type of games arn't what xbox fans want generally.

The game does look cool to me. It kinda feels like a cross between Dark Souls and Metroid Prime.

Buy what you want and don't sweat the haters. Most of them are just trying to get a rise out of you. Of the games you mentioned only Scorn looks like crap in my opinion. I'm at least somewhat interested in the other 3. Whether that translates into me buying the games waits to be seen.

@StrongDeadlift: Wrong. Gun Valkyrie was released for the OG Xbox decades ago and this "lem-cow" loved it along with many others and it was Xbox exclusive at the time.
