Most of you people are usually talking about PC gaming being "so expensive", well for the price of a 360 or PS3, you can get this. Buy a good graphics card to replace that one and you can play most games on high or max. So much for spending over $1000 like most consolites say.

I rather buy a $500 graphics card.... butseriously i would not recommend that PC to anyone. Make your own from scratch, do your ownresearch and look for the parts that are best for your budget.

And your post proves them wrong how? What you're saying is: buy this, then buy a gfx card, then buy a keyboard + mouse and an OS and you're done. Will it still cost the same as a console? I don't think so.

I second that. New games here are 100 AUS, so approx 100 US dollars. That's for ONE game.

Like a user previously stated, once you throw in KB/M, an OS, and shipping you're at $440, minimum.

It's still a decent deal, and it's nice that you get a quad-core CPU and DDR3 RAM. With a good GPU, you'd be at somewhere around $530.

The other day I priced out the best PC I could piece together for the lowest amount of cash and I hit $443 shipped. That's with a Radeon 4850 512MB VRAM. All things considered, you get a lot more out that PC than a $300 console could offer, and if you already own an OS(I bought XP back in 2002, still use it to this day) and can recycle some parts like KB/M and DVD drive, it really would only cost around $300.

So yeah, PC gaming is affordable.

Most people who own a console own a pc anyway. So if you combine the value of a $300 console with the $400 laptop/desktop pc, with $700 you can have a very respectable gaming PC. Any extra cost can be offset by the cheaper games and peripherals. Plus no need to pay for Xbox live/PSN+. Also you dont need a 32" TV to get the most out of a console a 19-22" is plenty. So PC gaming is too expensive, its just more expensive than a basic PC... Just.

Notice how I didn't include monitor in the list. Last time I saw someone do that he got a replay stating "we don't include monitors when talking about how expensive PC gaming is, nor do we include TV's when talking about how expensive console gaming it."

Seems more like a way for consolites to claim their platform is cheaper

Good Monitor: $300

Good TV: ~600 bucks and up for an "HD" one (and thats going to be a pretty small tv)

Posts like this confuse me. I'm assuming the goal is to prove that PC gaming doesn't have to be more expensive than gaming on a console. But since pretty much everyone has a computer these days, shouldn't we be comparing the difference of price between a PC with gaming hardware to one without?

Seems to me that it would give us a better idea of the true price of PC gaming. Even if you would only buy the cheapest PC available, say around $300 (though people usually pay more,) $200 -$300 more would allow you to put together a pretty decent gaming machine.

What really confuses me is that despite how much more a PC can do people expect it to cost as much as a console.

In Panama PS3 and 360 games are 70 dollars the most cheap games you can find. Usually they are 75-80. The best thing for us gamers is import them or buy games from Steam.

Geforce 210? 2gb of RAM? Doesn't come with an OS? Get a nice $150 video card, 2gb+ of RAM and an OS...and the price is up $300 more. People say PC gaming isn't cheap because...it isn't.

and yet it doesn't inlcude the monitor, the Operating system, the processor isn't that great, it has a tiny power supply, the case is bad, all cheap ass parts not good quality parts. Im sorry but Building a PC is more expensive than buying console, but there is a tradeoff to justify purchasing a PC, 1 its a computer, and 2. it offers the best performance and visuals. its all a matter of pregerence. that is a **** barebones, you should feel ashamed for posting that crap on here that is serious fail.

Nobody really cares and the cost of a gaming capable pc hasnt really been debated about for quite some time because there is no debate anymore. A capable modern gaming pc is always going to cost more than a console, whether it be a little or ALOT. And if you try to squeeze the final bill of a pc setup to the price of a console, you just kicking yourself in the nuts with that pos pc. Also, Its silly for the price difference of a gaming capable pc and a console to be looked down upon, specifically due to all the obvious capabilities a pc has over a console.

While TC's argument is a bit thin, the notion that you can spend your 300 console bucks on improving the one you use to attend SW with is'nt.

Everyone have TVs and everyone have PCs as well.

Edit: I'd never settle for something like that but if your current PC is'nt from the stoneage, you can upgrade it to a gaming rig without forking over more money than a console would set you back. Your screen may not be fantastic but your TV does'nt turn into a HD flatscreen just because you plug in a ps3 either.

No, but your example was purely uneducated.

Lol in consoles we don't have to pay for world of warcraft (because there's no WoW).

Now please put a similar service to PSN+ given for free on the PC, or cut it out.

I would not use that computer for gaming at all. For one the graphics card is shocking, and for a second, that power supply will not allow for amazing graphics cards anyway. Also the RAM is cheap 2GB RAM. So as you say that this rig can "play most games on high or max", this would only be true at low resolution, or by upgrading: power supply, RAM and GPU, bringing up the costs a lot.

Also, don't suppose anyone else has noticed this, but the motherboard is a micro ATX, so it is limited in itself for upgrades. There are only 2 DIMM slots, and only a single PCIe 16x slot, meaning you cannot SLI or X fire with this motherboard.

So anyone looking into a cheap way of getting into pc gaming, dont buy this!

play most games at max?? is he kidding... are you kidding?? That computer could barely handle running explorer and windows media player at once... computers are expensive. I periodically price up a solid computer with updated features to be able to max out current games etc, and it is always around 900 to 1000 bucks... no way of getting around it...

Not everyone necessarily has "PC's" ready to upgrade. Obviously there has always been Mac and Linux users that don't want to deal with Microsoft or Windows. But aside from those operating system alternatives there has been a move towards portability. 5 years ago what you were saying might have been accurate, most people that had PC's were probably running Windows and their systems were desktops that they could theoretically upgrade by just installing the dedicated GPU of the time. Today I would venture to guess that many more people have laptops, netbooks, or even tablets if they are running Windows at all. Putting aside how much the laptop has taken over, now people are starting to eschew a PC or laptop entirely, and go with the IPAD instead.

In all fairness, TC did say you would need a new GPU. The 400W PSU would present problems as the official recommendations for PSU would at best leave you to something like a 5550 128-bit GDDR5. Not a bad card by any means that can handle a game like Far Cry 2 with High settings @ 1680x1050 0xAA, but would be stuck running Crysis on Medium @ 1280x1024 0xAA.

PC gaming can still be quite affordable with the right selections. Earlier I mentioned that if you do it right, you can have a complete set of components for a rig with OS and KB/M shipped to you for under $450. That's with a 4850 512MB, and using multiple benchmarks as reference, it would be possible to play Crysis on High settings @ 1680x1050 2xAA, and with some custom configs, you could even eek out High, 1920x1200 0xAA if you wanted.

And I can play a Wii with a gamecube controller.

Sandvichman

Yeah sure, but if you did it would have a detrimental effect on your experience, unlike a keyboard and mouse.

I'd argue that a 15 year old keybooard isn't as good as a keyboard made in 2010.

Actually chances are that 15 year keyboard is a mechanical one which has a higher and faster response time then a 2010 USB keyboard.

It has a poor video card.. And doesn't come with a OS.. Furthermore trying to suggest that PC's should be priced as cheap as the console is ridiculous.. PC's do so much more then any console can hope to accomplish, its illogical to some how expect it to be as cheap.

400 watt PSU? Good luck upgrading.

Anyways, a good quality build from scratch before monitor and accessories usually is around 800-1000, that's for a high end machine. You could certainly go with like 500-700 for a mid range machine, if you're ok with playing newer games on lower settings.

Lower settings you sure about that? I mean taking a look at something like a 4870 radeon can still play every game out there on high settings if not max.

The GTX 210 says it all. It's not meant to play games

Honestly if you're gonna get a gaming PC, or make your own, go all out and get the best one your budget can handle.

You'll make up the cost of the PC vs Consoles by the savings on something like Steam, I mean I got $300 worth of games for $50 last Christmas :P.
