This looks amazing, and they still have about 3 months to finish it up. Closest game to photo-realism EVER:

It looks great, but it's hardly photorealistic.pretzelmeisterI hate the term photo realistic personally...this game looks awesome so far though
Looking at the majority of the screens on Xboxdye, and comparing them to what I remember playing of PGR3.
Doesn't look that much better to me.

The only thing from PGR3 that looked close to this were the garage car models and those were all rendered. Not gameplay. Offcourse, we don't know for sure if this is gameplay but I can only imagine it would be since showing off rendered stuff that isn't ingame to hype graphics pretty much isn't wanted by anyone anymore.

Of course doctored/rendered images aren't wanted by anyone. Doesn't mean that they won't do it though, does it?
Anyway, there was no real difference between the garage models and the gameplay models. I remember testing through photo mode to see if there was. But in these images the TVR for example, looks exactly like the one in PGR3. [How I did love the TVR]
Enough about that anyway, the game hardly looks photo-realistic. At least in my opinion, does look damn fine though. Here's hoping for a smooth framerate and less bloomy HDR.
i just hope it plays more fun than pgr3. i dunno, i guess i just dont care for the style of racing.Big_T-Mac
I disagree I hope it stays the same as it is unique to other racers like GT, Forza, NFS etc and thats a good thing. It strides the line of arcade/simulation to perfection and is far more enjoyable for it.
Saying that PGR3 had a lot of things it could improve on for sure....Hopefully PGR4 will have that.
As so far theirs been a lot of good/great racers already this gen but no True Classic. Forza, GTHD, PGR3,McRae, F1, Motorstorm,Burnout, NFS among others have been pretty good but not amazing, PGR3 has been the closest imo followed by Forza.

Im sure the exact same models are used for both in-game and garage , but the model in the garage mode has better lighting and AA.
photo realistic??? what are you on... ? it look nowhere as good as on tv! whats in it this time... same cars, same tracks, same handling.... do you get the point? i dont play games for "OMG! that car look like the real car..." like many games before it. how many times can it look realistic? if i want graphics, i'd watch a dvd...StarDust666
You dont sound like much of a gamer....

That'd be the only explanation for the buckets of slowdown thrown all over me when I tried to get from one side of my garage to the other.
I loved the lighting at one garage though, the one with the pond in the center.
In all seriousness, seeing those graphics, and then going back to my Wii version of NFS:Carbon is very, very hard. I've never really seen the point of buying a XBox 360, but damn... if the graphics can be that good or better, I'd consider buying one. For me, those graphics are as impressive as Crysis's, if not moreso (I'm talking about the picture with all the airconditioners and the buildings - I suspect its actually a photograph, thats how good it is). I'm impressed. Aqua-Vitae
I suggest you look at the high-res image before making such a bold claim. :p But, the game does look great.
I'm assuming you've never played PGR3 on a HDset then? Being my first encounter with 'next-gen' graphics it actually blew my mind. A lot more than I was expecting it to.

It is true that the screen-shot of the building wouldn't look out of place if it was in crysis because when it comes to things like buildings and cars they are not really that hard to model and make look realistic. But when it comes to jungles it is alot harder, especially to have the trees react realistically with explosions and stuff, like crysis does.

I accept that Jungles are really hard to modell, and I also know that Crysis looks very, very good. I don't really have much experience with HD gaming (except on my PC) so I guess most HD games impress me, but PGR4 just had WOW factor for me.
*BTW, I am particularly looking forward to the fully destructible jungles in Crysis. Orgasmic.
yeah.. well. they did the same with PGR3.. i wait for real hd gameplay footage before i'll say the game looks like this.
pGR3 ended up looking dissapointing compared to the first screens that were shown
The jump from Forza/DiRT/PGR 3 to PGR 4 in those screens, is too big. It ain't going to be that big of a leap forward,
wiganath
Oh, I don't know about that. Remember that PGR3 was a (no doubt rushed) launch title for the 360. And it's still the best looking car game out there by far more than 1,5 years later.
When PGR4 releases they have had 2 more years to perfect things. It will no doubt look amazing, and will be the benchmark for racing game graphics for quite a while.

PGR3 doesn't look that good at all. not on a big screen anyway. forza2 and specially dirt look much better
The direction the car is going, there should be no waterdrops on the opposite side. Realistically fake. Poor weather effects.NobuoMusicMaker
So if there are raindrops on the left, you are saying that they due to wind, direction of course and speed - the raindrops can't be on the right.
Poor logic.
It does look very good. Remember, PGR3 was initially a Xbox game. That's why the improvement can be this big.Fyper
Well they know hardware, remember the jump from PGR1 to PGR2...it was huge!

dont mind him if its not a sony product he will bash it.;)
...It's a racing game. They include the least amount of objects and scenery than any other genre besides sports and puzzles... Show me a controllable character model from that game, THEN we can talk about graphical achievements... and no, a car isn't a character, unless you're playing "Herbie"justdog11
I think the cockpit view would count as a controllable character model. But when I race I don't like the see the car at all...so I see it as shown above in some shots.
