Cloud Imperium just caught a major break. With Cyberpunk out there taking all the heat, you can now find an excuse to never deliver on your vaporware.

Chris Robert claimed that he does not want to release a buggy game, and that the awful release of Cyberpunk 2077 is something that Cloud Imperium tries to avoid.

As Chris Robert said:

“Because of this I have decided that it is best to not show Squadron 42 gameplay publicly, nor discuss any release date until we are closer to the home stretch and have high confidence in the remaining time needed to finish the game to the quality we want.”

https://www.dsogaming.com/news/dont-expect-to-be-playing-star-citizens-single-player-campaign-squadron-42-anytime-soon/

Riiiight. This comment seems extremely apropos given Cyberpunk's... misfortunes.

"You see, guys? I can't reveal my game THAT TOTALLY EXISTS because it's gonna be buggy like Cyberpunk. Now go away!", said Chris with a mouth full of M&Ms as he rolled back under his silk sheets.

The only thing this game has in common with Cyberpunk is the fact it'll be released in 2077.

Some spent hundreds of dollars on this game 😂Better yet, some have spent thousands of dollars on this game 🤣🤣🤣

CP2077 might be buggy af, but its out, and you know it will be fixed. Star Citizen will never be officially released. Its in a permanent pre-alpha state. Its like an engine demo they never bothered finishing. But it has Mark Hamill, it must be a good game 😁

I mean, the release of CP2077 brought people back to there senses on why you never rush a buggy game when it needs more time to be ready. But CP2077 disaster launch has brought CIG a crapton of time now cause its clearly clear no one wants a CP2077 repeat.

"I know everyone would like a definitive date on when Squadron 42 will be done but the best answer I can give you is that it will be done when its done" - Chris Roberts.

And guess what, that is fine by me. I want this game to meet everyone's expectations.

Star Citizen is a joke. It exist because of PC gamers insecurities during its debut. Now that PC gamers don't need to prove their relevance, they should simply pretend that this game doesn't exist. Keep in mind, this game was announced during the 360/PS3/Wii era. It was the time when they bragged that the game was beyond anything consoles can do. We are now two generations later. 😂

This game definitely helped murder the crowdsourcing movement for gaming. The timing of this statement shows that Chris is completely devoid of shame at this point.

@davillain-: Let's not compare the two, shall we? The only reason why S42 is not out yet, is because CI are putting everything in the forever expanding Star Citizen and the ship ads/trailers (trying to fool more idiots to buy them for thousands of dollars) instead or working on the single player game, like they should.

The only system that could handle this massive game is ps5 with its revolutionary hard drive tech. They should ditch PC and release there.

I was recently thinking about how CIG will probably use Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch to not give us anything new on Squadron 42.

I'm a backer, but haven't spent a lot of money on SC, so I am OK waiting for it.

With that said, it's pretty ridiculous where the game is at relative to the time and money (and support) that has been dumped into it.

Sometimes I feel we are just paying them so concept artists and 3D modelers can doodle all day. The ships are slick as hell and awesome, but jesus...let's get a finished product out the door.

This is why you don't want an "artist-type" in charge of your company; they're often perfectionists, and nothing is perfect...so therefore the game is going to take forever. At some point they need to realize good enough is good enough.

Chris Roberts is definitely pissing me off though. His ego, lack of concern about a finished product, and frankly how well he is living off the dime of people expecting him to produce something is alienating and disappointing, to say the least.

However, the alpha builds have been incredible. This game, if it comes out, is going to redefine gaming. IF it comes out :P

My advice to those that were looking forward to it? Just move on and forget everything you ever heard about it. Just play all the other games that are currently available.

Good advice from the linked article, and what I do with just about every unreleased game I am looking forward to.

And it's a space sim! Incredibly niche. And yet all the tech and stuff in it, all the things you can do...it really is pretty amazing even in alpha build.

A deadline is required for any job. Of course it should be realistic and rational. It is clear that the cause of CP2077's failure is incompetent management. But then it's a sophistry to draw the lesson from it that you shouldn't give a release date. Well, for this scammer, the deadline is probably the most abominable enemy, as the goal is to collect money for as long as possible.

I do. Though its held back by the clunkyness of what is for the most part still CryEngine; Star Citizen is already a fantastic game for space sim fans even in its current alpha stage. I prefer single-player games so I'm looking forward to S42 when it eventually releases and I hope it delivers.

His problem is not that Star Citizen is still not out. His real problem is that the game Star Citizen was promising to be already exists, especially with the upcoming Odyssey expansion. That game is Elite Dangerous, developed by Frontier Developments.

Frontier Developments, by the way, also developed and released seven other games since SC's 2012 Kickstarter, including bestsellers Planet Coaster, Jurassic World Evolution and Planet Zoo - plus DLCs and expansions. Amazing what an actually competent development studio can do.

E:D is awesome, I'm starting it up again after a long hiatus so I am ready when Odyssey comes out. One of the best VR games out there, too, doubly so with a nice HOTAS setup. Don't ever need to touch the keyboard or mouse.

It's been interesting seeing these two games more or less develop side-by-side; totally different games, but a lot of similarities. Frontier Developments is in some ways ahead of the curve compared to CIG when it comes to their games in that they have a more refined product that is released, but CIG is a lot more ambitious and frankly Star Citizen is more fun to play in many respects, even in alpha.

Not to say Elite: Dangerous isn't fun, it just takes a very specific type of person to be able to sit down and say "I like this".

Eh, fair enough. I'm trying to keep an open mind--in both directions--as to the fate of the game; I'm hoping it meets both what it sets out to do and expectations of players, but at the same time I've seen how development has gone thus far and it's been terribly managed imo, so I don't really epect much at this point.

Secret to happiness, dude; high hopes, low expectations :P

The fact that its STILL in the alpha stage is kinda telling. A 360 and ps3 were still the main systems when this thing was announced. I mean, this way beyond ridiculous.

It does not matter. It has been THREEEEEEEE generation, and this thing is nowhere near close to being released. I bet you this game won't be out of beta stage before the PS6 comes out. And then, to be fully released, we'll be a few years before the PS7 comes out. Like.... what in the flying f*ck?!

I don't play SC. But now i am curious, what makes you think i am fake outraging? I pointed out a FACT. This game has been announced a metric shitload of time ago. Is still in alpha stage. We have no idea for how many more years it'll be in development. Might as well be an another decade for all we know. And how many more years until they get out of alpha? This is no fake outrage, its the reality of this title. And you want it or not, this is how it stays with Star Citizen. By the time this game comes out, its visuals might be as outdated as Switch hardware.

Bu but the last patch was so great, guys. They added two new ships each worth $40 and you can walk on the base 10-PZ in 19fps. I like it 😊😊😊

Worth nothing that some of the "satisfied customers" who pop up in threads like this are stooges paid by Roberts to defend the game.
