I have been gaming as a hobby since atari 2600 in 1981/82. Since then I have received something game related every single year. Games/consoles/accessories.

For the first time since then neither I, nor my sons opened a single gaming product at Christmas.

I may clean up a few sales on the estores but nothing compelling this year so the streak is broke!

I got $75 in psn cards. I have bought doom eternal, squadrons and shadow of the tomb raider. They’re on my backlog 😂

My girlfriend got me a turtle beach headset (the 70 recon model), I tried it out a little while playing CoD last night and it seemed pretty good.

Just bought immortals from target for 17 bucks (25 gift card).

Bought my kids forza H 4, madden, sonic and Mario Olympics, splatoon 2, and and harvest moon.

Got Zelda: Link's Awakening! Will be a good counterbalance to the grungy debauchery of CP2077

I bought myself RE3 Remake for $15.

Just love from my Wife & Daughters. Its not about the gifts, Christmas is about giving. All I ask for everyone to be happy and I got my wish :)

Sackboy PS5, a muscle hammer, Spiderman Remastered (a gift for myself), hard alcohol and a helluva lot of socks and boxers.

We don't really do gifts anymore, but my dad gave me some money. Might use it on a second nvme.

I did not get anything gaming-related this year. I stopped asking for presents a long time ago, but you know how family's will go even when you say you don't want anything. I got some new shoes and clothes, a book and an assortment of snacks.

I bought Cyberpunk 2077 for myself. I know me so well!

Was given some Xbox gift cards got Yakuza Like a Dragon on the series x. Played a couple of hours it’s a crazy but fun game so far

My wife for me a few PS4 games (TLoU2, Doom Eternal, Ghostbusters Remastered, FF7R), a Joust arcade cabinet hallmark ornament, and 3 gaming signs from Hobby Lobby.

I really have to redo my gameroom now, I don't have any space for anything anymore.

Christmas for me is centered around my kids, so i'm good as long as they're happy. I did get 2 Xbox gift cards and bought Panzer Dragoon Remake, its still a good game, but rather short.

We don't celebrate Christmas but it so happens to be my wedding anniversary so hey 🤷‍♂️, spent the day with my wife (at home though).

Well that's true love, she's a keeper 👍

I also got $75 worth of MS Cards I decided to buy Immortals: Fenyx Rising with it. Quirky and fun game.. think Assassins Creed and Zelda had a love child

Didn’t get anything specifically gaming related but did get some gift cards that I’ll probably use to get some gaming stuff.

I got nothing at all. I do not have any family/relatives or friends and live on my own. It can get pretty depressing during this time of the year.

Thanks. She knows I'm a hardcore PC gamer who loves PC gaming, so she knows I shop at Steam. I really didn't ask anything for Christmas but my wife gave me a gift anyway. She's a keeper indeed😉

@robbie23: I’m sorry to hear it can get depressing, I hope you managed to have a fun and relaxing Christmas Day though even if by yourself, sometimes being alone is better than people think.

I got 200 dollrs from my mom and my dad is gonna help me buy a external hard drive for my laptop im running out of space on there.

Didn't get anything game related from anyone. I got some beard shampoo and oil, a pair of 50lb dumbbells, and a scalp scrubber for the shower.

@sheevpalpamemes: Have you watched any of the 4k LotR yet? I've read a lot of people complaining about the transfer ringing the color and tone of the movies (if memory serves me correct).

I've been reading that it's almost a wax job with no grain. Apparently Peter Jackson wanted it to match the digital look of the Hobbit movies. Looked at some disappointing comparison screenshots. I'm keeping my Extended Blu-rays.

Found SW: Squadrons for cheap on Steam and bought that, even though I promised myself I was going to start working on my back catalog.

Is it better to watch 4K via optical disc, or is streaming OK? I'm asking because I will be treating myself to a 4K TV soon.

My internet should be fast enough to support 4K quality, I'm just not sure if there's a difference in quality or how they code it (sort of like MP3 vs wav files with music or whatever it was) or whatever.

Stayed home this Christmas because I have no choice anyhoo,I’m Covid positive and been self isolating for 9 days so far. Been freaking boring and lonely. Have no friends or much family,at least any that bothers with me. It’s all good, I don’t feel sorry or bad for myself,it is what it is! There’s much worse things that can happen to me or to others,what I’m going through is petty bs? Merry Christmas and Hopefully a better year in 2021 then this one!

My fun stuff:

I got some clothes (t-shirts, underwear, socks) a book, cologne, two nice hand-made glass espresso cups, and a few other things. Nothing gaming or computer related because I buy all that stuff myself and my family wouldn't have a clue what to get me anyway.

My wife got me Immortals Fenyx Rising and Nioh 2, I also got $250 to go towards my XSX and VCS from my parents and in laws. She couldn't find an XSX for Christmas, but said she wanted to get me one as soon as we find one and that I can get the VCS in March when it full releases. My kids got a few games for their PS4, $50 psn cards, a retro pi gaming console, Pandoras box arcade sticks, and I got all three of them Lenovo Yoga smart tabs to play games like Among Us on so we could all play together. Went a bit overboard perhaps, but being stuck inside during the cold months and the last year sucking so bad... well, I figured you will never get the time back so might as well make the best of it.

TL:DR version, they look fantastic, top 5 4k transer.

They look incredible. Film grain doesn’t define a movie and the colors are more accurate. The colors in the extended blu rays (own these as well, as well as the non-extended blu rays, and dvd extendeds as well) were off and wrong.

People just like to bitch about things they are clueless about. The removal of grain was done as a form of noise cancellation and it was done without artifacting despite doing it in scenes where a high ISO film was used which shows the skill thrown at this project. Extended blu rays had a bluish-green filter on which wasn’t the original vision of the film.

Wow...I'm so sorry to hear that man. I don't really deal with family outside of my immediate family so I know how you feel. Sometimes you're better off without them, but I'm so sorry you've tested positive for Covid but at least you're doing the right thing and self quarantining so I commend you for that. I'll be keeping you in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

I really don't think so. Grain is just a part of 35 mm film like Lord of the Rings. Some scenes really do look softer and less defined now.

I wonder if it really is a 4K scan or just a 2K upscale, since the original was finished in 2K due to the special effects. The Matrix trilogy was scanned in 4K despite having 2K special effects, and it still looked very good for it.
