Claiming the PS3 is an absolute flop is completely foolish(reality check)

Anyone who thinks this would be a complete fool. It is way too early to say that the ps3 will not make its comeback. Yeah, sure, the PS3 has gotten to a slow start mainly because of its price and its weak launch games, but it still will get solid games for the rest of 07. Even thought Heavenly Sowrd will likely flop around an 8, it still doesn't change the fact that it is still a solid game - rent or buy. Warhawk is a definite success though.

For the rest of 07, the PS3 will still get Uncharted: Drake's Fortune(IMO AA=solid), Ratchet & Clank:ToD(possibly AAA), Haze(maybe AAA, likely AA), Socom Confrontation(a popular PS franchise), and a great FPS, Unreal Tournement. Even though UT is multiplat and timed exclusive, it will still attract gamers because it is a graphical powerhouse and it is an fps - nothing can change that fact.

If PS3 can have a solid ending to 07 in terms of sales and a few AA-solid games, then I think the PS3 is still in good position catch up.

In 08, the PS3 will realease the Elite 5(yeah that's right I said it) which are...

Metel Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - System seller, and will likely be the last game of the franchise, will sell very well worldwide and will prove why Japan is an important country in terms of sales.

Killzone 2 - What can I say. Lets wait and see.

Little Big Planet - Possibly the one game has a reasonble chance to score a AAAA, and it will definately attract casuals as well has hardcore gamers.

Gran Turismo 5 - System seller, its been a long time since GT4 and it is a popular racing franchise. Then combine that with photorealistic graphics.

Final Fanatasy XIII - System seller, it will be the first installment of the FF franchise in next-gen so I am sure people will be very excited, RPG + Japan = Sales Boost

Not to mention, the PS3 will have other games as well in 08 that can compete with XBox360's 08 lineup(at least the ones that are already announced by Microsoft). Some are Tekken 6, Heavy Rain, Getaway, Infamous, The Agency, and White Night Story.

You might argue the PS3 price, but in 08, I'm sure the PS3 will be at $399 or $450

Well the Dreamcast was great for a bit and look what happened to that. Past events don't determine what will happen for everything

The PS3 isn't an absolute flop, no, but so far it's games library isn't very inspiring for a company which touted itself as top dog.

The problem is, all it's best AAAs are multiplats (Oblivion, RB6, Sigma arguable I suppose) and it's best exclusive games (Resistance and Warhawk) are just not worth the cost when you factor in it's hefty price tag.

It's also had a major dissapointment as of late (Lair) and while there's some promise in it's later year software, it's going up against the big boys from all other systems (Halo 3, Mass Effect, Super Mario Sunshine, SSBB, Crysis, Hellgate London).

Let me put it in perspective. The big games come in cycles. It's 2007, before it was 2004, before than 2001, before that 1998. After a big year, each system goes into hibernation in terms of a massive slew of hits.

So what does this mean? Sony with it's late start has gone with it's new release library against all other systems as they get into their first big swing of titles. Sure, Sony looks to give it's own back in 2008, but then does it flail again in 2009? Can Sony have two big hit years twice in a row, or will it always be one season behind?

Yeah yeah you cows have been hyping these same games since 2005 (barring Little Big Planet) but you need to face it. These games have ample competition now and they are sequels to series that have been losing sales with each consecutive release.JiveT

Maybe devs are a little bit more lazy when it comes to sequels to games in the same gen. But, I'm sure Konami and Square Enix will take a lot more pride and effort entering a new gen. FYI, Gran Turismo has always sold the same. Even though XBox 360 and the Wii have their big boys released already, these PS3 games are just as big and some of these are a big reason why the PS2 was so successful

Very well said, when the big hit games start coming out on the PS3 I wonder what people will complain about then.

Also Socom is one of the best games I,ve played and that's every one of them including the ones on the PSP.

I saw something about another version of Socom being developed by Zipper that will be a full single player/online game. This could be a late 08 or mid 09 release.
