yeah right. all they need to do is reprogram the camo code to use a 360 thread instead of an spe.
EXACTLY. Too many people are taking the delveopers words for things instead of using their own head. They apparently dont understand that the delopers have alliances and want to protect their intersts. If saying soemthing like "Only the cell can do this" causes 300,000 people to purchase a PS3 over a X360, and 25% of those poeple purchase MSG4, then youve generated almost 4 million bux for yourself (750,000 * $50). Not to mention the kickbacks and back patting done from Sony.
The camo can be done on the X360 just as effectively. It just has to be programmed in a different manner to account for the different architecture.
I see a bad side to this, it takes almost 300 people years to make a PS3 game that can compete with Gears of war .csliney
MGS1>GEars. Thats the bad side?
WOW, its like a fanboy roll call in here, this is going to be a massive hit and is looking good (sony's history of overhype will make me reserve judgment) but what with all these claims of cell pwnage, the cell isnt even mentioned in the topic.
Ah well, enjoy your game and all the best, (ive never been a MGS fan)

Okay, stop being stupid! You know that even Gears could pwn this MGS4 graphics that your "hyping" about. And don't even get me started in MAss Effect graphics.

Why cant the 360 handle the Camo? It dosent look that complecated.
According to Kojima, it's not just the texture that's altered by the OctoCamo but the shape as well. It's called OctoCamo because it resembles the defensive mechanisms of an octopus, who can change both color and shape to blend into its environment. Now, the way Kojima's handling this (a technique similar to Lair's progressive mesh generation) is very math-intensive and thus up the Cell's alley (multiple simple math operations are one of the Cell's strengths). But this doesn't preclude someone else developing an alternate technique that the CPU or a GPU can utilize.[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]I wonder what takes 300 people. I've always wondered how huge teams divy up the work such that they don't overlap and things fit together well in the end.Teufelhuhn
Well, you probably have the group split up into engineering and design, with roughly 1/4 to 1/3 in the first category. In the engineering group, you've got your leads programmers, your graphics engine programmers, your sound programmers, your tools programmers, your testers, your network programmers, etc. In the design group, you've probably got around 50% of the total team working on generating art or assets of some sort. This includes 3D models, textures, normal-maps, and sprites. Then you'll have people actually designing the levels, people handling gamplay elements, people handling animation/motion-capture, people writing dialogue, people working on music, and of course Kojima himself. It's a huge project, managing it all is probably hell.

Back on topic, wow 300 thats certainly a big number, i bet half of them are working on the port :| But its interesting too see how Hideo plans on filling all the blu-ray space.Thie game will be amazing.

Interesting how some lemmings make these types of comments, yet when it comes to Halo 3 beta it's "Halo was never about graphics" or "that's not HD footage, you can't judge the game's graphics."
and yet all the screens I posted were just trailer footage captures from an early version of MGS4.
mind you, not all lemmings are like that, but for those that are...yeah...
Except for the fact Bungie themselves said before any vids were shown they were alpha or interal early beta where they worked on gameplay first and are doing graphics AFTER.

Sad sad sad. You realize the amount of blur in this pic just kills it completely. Mass effect on the other hand still wows me.
Why do people only post glamour shots when the game is announced? Why not recent pictures like the mass effect one? WhySoCry
All he posted were from the TGS 06 Alpha version of MGS4. They look alot better than mass effect, so i guess why you think there glamourous.

Saying not on the same level is being generous. Mass Effect looks really good though. Sidenote MGS4 screen from TGS were alpha, there hasn't been newer screens. Pretty impressive that MGS4 can still over-shadow games that have been shown recently.

Again, How do you know th efinal game will look this good. until Updated screens come out, dont use Computer generated images that dont even run on the hardware.

Yeah, that's gotta be tough - do a quick check to see what the texture map is for the item Snake is up against (ground, rock, wall, etc.) and apply that texture to his uniform. Wow. That was impressive.
Hold on, i didn't say that ;)

There you go calling it CGI, when ppl should know MGS is never CGI.
Also how do lemmings know that Halo 3 will look really good in the final game? Wouldn't this be almost the same case?

Indded, people cant know Halo 3 will look as good. As with any game, you never know what its really going to look like until it comes out.
360 can't keep up with that? Ghost Recon Advanced warfighter 2 looks better than that, and the reason I say that is because GRAW2 actually has COLOR in the game.
Tell me if it's not true, but Metal Gear 4 game pics and videos have atleast 50% more of a color palette than the very old gameboys!

The only way we'll stop this argument of gameplay vs. target render vs. CGI is to have a playable demo.[QUOTE="Adrian_Cloud"][QUOTE="WhySoCry"]Why do people only post glamour shots when the game is announced? Why not recent pictures like the mass effect one? black_awpN1

You must not know your history when it comes to Kojima and MGS
You must've missed when Kojima picked up a Dual Shock 2 controller and manipulated the camera in real time on PS3 hardware at TGS.
You must've been in a cave.
Now go back there.
Wow, with that many people working on the game they must be making some good time on it.Wasdie
I still wish someone knew how much it was going to cost in the end to develop (or at least had a ballpark figure). I want to know how many they have to sell to break even.

How are we supposed to assume that? Unless they state it by giving numbes which I doubt they will.

Thing is, you can manupilate the camera on a scripted scene. What I want to know is if he actually played as Snake. That means all the fixins are in, including complicated AI, physics, NPC, and scene manipulation. You know, all the "under the hood" things that aren't needed in a scripted scene. Lastly, Kojima's far from an independent. Let's see IGN or GS itself perform a hands-on...or best yet, let's see a playable demo. And before you say, "too early," remember that Mistwalker released a playable demo of Lost Odyssey at only 10% progress.[QUOTE="black_awpN1"][QUOTE="Adrian_Cloud"][QUOTE="WhySoCry"]Why do people only post glamour shots when the game is announced? Just because he manipulated the camera dosent mean it was actual on the hardware graphics. He jus tput a feature to move the camera of the Scripted Scene that was it. So now you can go back in your cave.

that is why sony is making a MGS movie with kojima, keep exclusivity and generate more cash for the franchise. That is madness!!! :oWell...it is made by 300....so I guess it MUST be Sparta

I'm sure the team will be paid well

MGS3 -- 3.96 million sold (115 million PS2s)
Attach rate -- 1 game sold for every 27 PS2s
Development team for MGS4 --- 300 people
PS3s sold --- 3.28 million
If less than 4 million MGS3 discs sold for 115 million PS2s, then how do you think MGS4 will sell with only 3.28 million PS3s
Ok, to be fair...by the time MGS4 releases, there may be a whopping 7 million PS3s at this rate
MGS2 is the best selling of the MGS franchise. Over 6 million were sold. That is 1 for every 20 PS2s
Let's say there are 7 million PS3s...7 million / 20 = 350,000 MGS4 discs sold
But the PS3 has a longer life than that! Ok...let's say PS3 reaches 20 million. 1 million MGS4 discs sold.
MGS is not nearly as popular as cows believe it is...
And with a development team of 300, and a possibility that MGS4 may barely only break the 1 million sold barrier, that is not all that great...

wow, that was a stupid post...thanx for the laugh
For the people that were asking how much a MGS game costs to produce, here's an answer.
It's no secret that the MGS games are among (if not) the most expensive games to develop, mainly because of the large quantity of storytelling in the games (the fully motion captured and professionally directed and voiced cutscenes are very expensive to produce, definitelly the most expensive gaming development process and that is why we don't see very often this high quality and quantity of storytelling).
So, long story short, MGS1's development costs were ~ 5 mil$, MGS2's ~ 10 mil $, MGS3's ~ 15 mil $ and MGS4 will probably be around 20 to 25 mil $. The first 3 figures are accurate, the last (MGS4's) is just a logical deduction.
Now, if MGS4 sells 4 to 8 mil copies at, let's say...50 $ a piece...do the math...Kojima can finally buy Disneyland :)

At the time of the release of the trailer, Kojima was just starting on the production phase. That voids your argument that Halo 3 should get the benefit of the doubt but MGS4 shouldn't.
