The 360 and Wii numbers look realistic but I just can't see PS3 making up so much lost ground that late in the game, by then most devs and consumers for that matter will be looking at different platforms. At the end of last gen GC and Xbox were pretty much an after thought compared to PS2

Microsoft really does need to do something about their slumping sales in Europe though. Maybe make GOW2 a pack-in for a special edition 360 in Europe?

I am a PS3 fan, and I think that is a pretty bold prediction. While I think the 360 numbers are correct (based on current sales levels), it is unclear to say for certain that the Wii will maintain current sales levels. Especially if developers continue to shun it despite sales success.

And while I also believe the PS3 will overtake the 360...to say that it will outsell the Wii AND sell at PS2 levels would mean it did NOT lose market share and that the marketshare for consoles in general have increased. I see no real sign that this is happening. If anything, the PS3 is going to lose marketshare to someone and it is highly unlikely two consoles will sell over 100 million

PS3 will come in second but no way will it beat it the Wii. And there's no way it will sell 105 million. This isn't last generation. All the casuals (which make up the majority of the market) who bought the PS2 last generation are now buying the Wii.Rocky32189

Ummm... that's not CNet's opinion, that's IDC's:

"In a report issued earlier this year, IDC analyst Billly Pidgeon projected sales numbers for the three next-gen consoles, through 2012."

And, the article gives reasons why the 360 will beat the PS3 and vise versa. It is not a "The PS3 will win, and here's why" article... unlike the editorial by a CNet staffer syaing the 360 would win.

Maybe, you shoul read the article before posting. Just a thought...

Holy cow! I (mostly)agree. I mean come-on guys look at the killer sales the PS2 is putting up right now. At some point the PS3 is going to be a $129.99 Blu-Ray player with a killer back library so while it's not really a sure thing I guess it's still a pretty easy leap to see people jumping all over it when they are ready for a BD player.

Just because we gamers will have moved on and bought the next best game system to come out does not mean the PS3 will be going away anytime soon.

The PS3 being successful has nothing to do with games, people will want a bd player at some point and while we may consider that a joke in reality the jokes on us because we haver nothing to do with what the general population makes successful.

Time is on the PS3's side on this one.
