You have to consider that COD4 and Assasins Creed will be major system sellers. For those that have not yet bought a next gen console and want a next gen console for just COD4 Or assasins creed, chances are they are going to choose to buy the PS3 for those games instead of a 360.. Why you ask?! Well for starters why not pay $50.00 more for built in blu ray and WIFI and also Free online, especially the COD4 fans, why pay $400.00 for a 360 and a year of xbox live to play COD 4 online when you can pay the same amount for a PS3 and get FREE ONLINE, Double the HDD Space, Built in WIFI and most of all built in Blu ray..

So yes, COD 4 and Assassins creed are 2 multiplats that will MOVE PS3s. Lets think about it from a consumer's standpoint, not a "System Wars" fanboy standpoint. Lets say hes in the market to buy a next gen console and that consumer has pretty much grown up on PS2 for the last 5 years, he has $400.00 to spend on a next gen console.. So give me one reasonable explanation he would not choose a PS3 over a 360.. 1.Its more reliable. 2.its free online, 3.COD4 and Assassins Creed will own. 4.It has built in WIFI and blu ray, NO BC you say, eh not a big deal.. He still has his trusty PS2

That's great and all, if the only games those people intend to ever play are those. What if they also want Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Bioshock? Kinda makes the 360 a better buy....

Only system movers are the exclusives. I don't either will "move" the 360 or PS3 very far in terms of overall sales. You can predict all you want...but it's still a guess. Uncharted will move PS3's before either of those IMO. Your reliable point is a joke...the 360 is reliable. And the small percentage that have an issue (RROD) have it fixed for free. So? Why the crying?

Also, the 360 has tons of exclusives and tons of amazing games. That's always a deciding factor...and the 360 has a HUGE advantage there.

Ok, you say you want to take this from the perspective of a non System Wars consumer.

But then you expect them to have an intimate knowledge of the differences in hardware between the 360 and the PS3? You expect them to understand firstly, what Blu-ray is, and then actually have the technology in their homes to use it (HDTV ownership rates are low, even in the US).

Most of all, you expect them to care about WiFi and the different HDD spaces, even if they know about it?

Bottom line, most consumers will be swayed by price and big name games. The PS3 really isn't getting an advantage over the 360 here.

And brand loyalty matters for little outside of System Wars. If it did, Sega never would have had the problems it did, Nitendo would never have stopped trucking on and the PS1 would never had managed to penetrate the market.

Let's say, I want to buy Ice cream.

I already have the ice cream, now I just need the scoop.

I could either spend $60 for a super hitech scoop that does all this extra crap, that I don't really care about.

Or I could get the same size scoop for $25.

Let me think about this...

You do realize that Call of Duty has a pretty large following on the 360 and that most people go where the competition is.

yes it is..... this idea that the TC had pretty much only applies to that "general" set of people, there are much more people out there with diff ideas and needs of a system.. for example .... what if they don't care about WIFI ? O.o ! argument broken.

From a non-systems war point of view: the consumer would look at the number of games on the 360 shelf and then compare that to the PS3 shelf...done deal with a lower price tag to boot.

that's a really good point. I know when I think CoD, I think 360. That accossiation alone will help the 360.

And then 2 years down the road when blu ray becomes standard you'd wish you had spent the extra few bucks for the ps3 .

1) Why would it become standard in 2009 if HDTVs aren't predicted to be standard by then?

2) Why would he regret buying a PS3 now, if he could theoretically get it in 2009 cheaper?

There should be a limit to how many fanboy threads people can make a day. Great fanboys are needed for system wars, but you've made too much for one day.

Wrong because CoD4 is better on the 360 and even Playstation Universe thinks so

May find some jaggies on the PS3 version...not as smooth in some areas as you may find on the PC or 360

There will be no standard for media anymore.... ever hear of VOD? No need for Discs/media unless you're sharing with others... and then why would you use a proprietary format which is far more expensive then something like an SD card?

Times have changed... HD DVD and BR will never become the "next format"... welcome to the future.

No. If you can use the $400 PS3, you have to use the $279 360. The reason multiplats are better for the 360 at this point (sales/moving consoles wise) is because the 360 exclusives are better, the multiplats are just icing on the delicious cake.

This could be possible, but one thing: If you like games like that, then how come you wouldn't have a next gen console already anyways?

COD4's beta was on the 360...everyone that's asking about the game and thinking about buying are talking to 360 owners. the ps3 owners have nothing to say about the game except all the gadjets the ps3 has and a guess that it would be better on the ps3...which hasn't proven true lately. that'll make them want to buy the 360 if you're talking about persuasion i think.

Actual conversation at Best Buy.

"Why does this one cost $150 more?" (Customer referring to 80gig PS3 vs. 'Pro' 360)

"Because it has built in blu-ray for Hi-Def movie playback."

"What's a blu-ray, and will it work with my sons TV?"

"Is it high definition?"

"It's about 20 inches, does that help? What's high definitive mean?"

And that's why the PS3 isn't selling well. Everybody gets the Wii, and they get Halo 3 because it's on the cover of Wired and talked about in the Wall Street Journal. All they see is the price, and the lack of Nintendo games and Halo. Hell, my mother still refers to all video games as Nintendo. The PS3 ads so far haven't helped either.

"PS3. It makes fake babies cry." Huh?

i concur...basically, if you like MGS4, buy a PS3, if you like Halo3, buy an xbos360 (i know, i know, there are tons of games on either platform, i'm just making an example). anyhoo, this is surely a fanboy thread. of course, this is system wars.
