I used to be a avid collector of games. I would have tons of games sitting on my shevles, and I would always buy the CE or LE or whatever of each game that had one, sometimes paying absurd prices on ebay to get them. Now I've traded in almost all of my games over the past couple years, and I only buy a special edition if it has in game content or a good deal like the Hardened edition of MW3. Anyone else in the same boat? And do you keep all the stuff for the special edition? Like if you sell/trade in the game itself do you keep all the swag that came with it? I know I'll be hocking my legendary edition of Reach (except for the statue because my son wanted it for his room) once I finish everything in the game and Halo 4 comes out.

I dont buy the CE's unless they are stupendously good or im a fan of the series.

Only LE/CE im buying this year is the Forza 4 and AC AH purely because im a fan of those franchises and both come with art books and the latter i have every AC game made for home consoles.

I just dont see why people buy into these when half the time its useless tat like the Skyrim CE or the GeoW2 lancer...

I only buy LE/CE of games I like. I just dont randomly buy them if I think the game is going to suck. But at the same time I buy 2 copies if I do that...one regular to play and the other LE/CE sealed to collect. I have a tonnnn.

I usually buy collectors editions but don't sell games so obviously keep the stuff. MW3 has one of the worst limited editions ever imo tho.

I usually purchase Collectors editions because I like the collectibles that come with them.

Edit* But mainly when it is for a series I like. Or if the there is a collectable that I'm interested mainly something I can show off and put on my Entertainment center.

:( I bought the LE of Gears 2 for the lancer lol. Even spent extra money on ebay to get the gold hammerburst. Bought Reach legendary just for the flaming helmet. I'm a sucker for extra skins and stuff. I'm buying the EE of Gears 3 even though I feel shafted because the cheaper LE gets the same extra in game stuff (every where was sold out of LE by the time they announced it, so I can't downgrade). I'm also getting the LE of BF3 but that's just because it's the same price as a retail game. I want the Hardened Edition of MW3 just because of the savings involved on DLC and elite. Those games plus Halo Anniversary and MK are all I'm buying this year and probably for a while. Only other games I can think of that I want are Halo 4 and the CoD that will come out next year lol. Hopefully those don't have ridiculous special editions, although I'm sure they will.

I don't go around buying Collector's Editions for absolutely everything. Only for games I'm looking forward to, and if I feel they're worth the money.

Depends on the game. I'll buy the CE for Diablo 3, but after the Reach legendary edition I'm a little more careful.

I love buying collectors/limited edition of games, only if they have some sort of figurine or statue that I can display on a shelf. I usually don't buy them when they first release anymore, I learned that mistake a couple years ago. Usually if you wait about 3-4 months after the game has released the price will drop incredibly from say $130 Killzone Hellghast Edition to $60 Killzone Helghast Edition.

I'll probably get the Infamous 2 Hero Edition sometime soon, I've been watching it closely and it's already down to $70.

I never sell games. Don't see a point. Usually when I buy something new I know I'm going to play it for a while, so by the time I'm actually done with it I get next to nothing for selling it. I'd rather just have it on my shelf than get the $3 Gamestop is offering for it.

I never buy these, but I am considering getting a certain few coming, and am no doubt getting the Skyward Sword bundle. I care more about soundtracks, game cases, and so on, than I do other things, although the ring and such of Drakes is pretty cool, but the statues are lame.

I only buy Limited Editions... because they actually are "limited" in production numbers and will appreciate in value. Like Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence LE, which is now worth between $200-300 USD used (bought for $50 through gamestop.com).

That really depends...if I KNOW I am not going to play a game again, why keep it??? Gamestop has amazing trade in deals these days like 50% more credit plus extra % if you have a gamestop card...etc. I platinumed Infamous 2 a while ago and just traded it in yesterday and got $40 for it. I dont call that 'nothing'.

I like the digital collector's editions offered on Steam because of the awesome amount of ingame stuff they give you. I'm not too big of a fan of physical collectors editions though.

Most games I buy immediately I can see playing again sometime down the road. I got the Infamous 2 platinum as well, but I know I'm going to play it again later on. I'll probably get bored one weekend and go "I'll play the Infamous series again" or something to like that.

I'm more referring to backlog games I buy on a whim months after their release. It works for you though, so more power to you :) Personal preference though I just keep them.

I don't like buying collectors editions because they are are generally a ripoff (especially the $149.99 ones that come in huge giant boxes with all kinds of plastic statues and garbage inside the box). Even if they weren't a ripoff many of them take up way too much space to want to own a whole bunch of them. I have had a few of the more conservative LE's over the years (and still have them), but I definitely stay away from the ones that take up too much space. I also don't particularly care for the idea of collecting games either. I never have. I've always tried to clear out what I owned from one gaming generation to the next. There's really no point because the vast majority of games will end up worthless in the end. I make an effort to try and clear out games I know I will never play again. Of course I'm very generous at convincing myself that I need to keep games in order to give them a 2nd playthrough. Most of the time I'm probably just lying to myself, I should just get rid of them.

I only buy special or limited editions if it's the only version available at the time I want to buy it, or if it's a series I already like a lot or think I'll like a lot. I don't collect just to collect though. I only buy games I know I'll like (usually based on gameplay videos online, in-store demonstrations, and demos online, etc.). Every now and again I'll risk it on a cheap title even I'm not sure, but it's rare. If I see a potential good game I know nothing about for $5, I might go home and look up some gameplay videos online, and then pick it up later if it looked good.

When I consider that the extra price of a CE equals 1/3-1/2 (sometimes more) of a brand new game (and this gen, there are plenty to buy), my interest in it dies quickly.

I usually only buy Collectors/Legendary/Limited/whatever editions if there's some special content with it (I kind of expect more than a special box) or I'm a fan of the franchise. Most of the time I want a special edition, they're sold out or impossible to get unless I buy it online..
