no, there's no source to confirm this, but it's just me thinking that MMO's are the future of gaming.

I thought it'd be a great idea to play games where every character is controlled by an user, and I'd like to see more genres to do just that, not only rpg's and fps's. how great would it be to play an action-adventure game where people can play the role of a certain character? there would not be need to improve the AI anymore.

thoughts?

So people are going to play as low level monsters for me to kill? And others will go and give me quests relating to the storyline, then afterwards give me experience and items?

If this is what you mean then don't get me started on the survival horror genre.

Anyone remember the stupid Halo 3 rumour that spread saying that Halo 3 had no AI in the campaign, and that all the covenant etc. were controlled by Indians :P

If everyone was a NPC then personally that would ruin immersion of the game for me, even more if it's supposed to be some desolate location.

Let's say I'm playing Fallout _ and some guy starts talking about how he got laid last night while raving, that would ruin the experience for me.

I think it'd be like in the rpg's, where you are only allowed to choose a limited range of answers/questions. I'd let mic enabled, but the screaming kids would get muted.

I mean it is possible, some MUD severs force you to stay in your characters role and if you do not you get banned. But those usually have a very small dedicated community that would listen to/not complain about that rule, I don't think it would work for the mainstream.

this will never happen. if your only enemies are other players, half of the population will quit gaming because they wouldnt be able to beat the first level of any game. also, this wouldnt even work for the majority of the genres

I certainly hope MMOs aren't the future of gaming. I hope single-player continues on alongside multiplayer. I prefer single-player much of the time.
