To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 8086, Intel is launching the Core i7-8086K (6 cores / 12 threads) with a 5.0 GHz turbo clock (4.0 GHz base).

No word on pricing just yet.

--BONUS--

Intel also announced an unnamed 28 core / 56 thread processor coming in Q4.

Cinebench R15 Multi 64-bit score of 7334 with all cores running at 5.0 GHz:

same here, 4.3ghz across 6 cores and 12 threads is fast enough.

No interest yet. My 7700K will be serving me just fine for a few iterations.

For sure. I haven't even overclocked yet, and I doubt I will for a while.

That's a monster but I still don't have any reason to upgrade my i7 6850k, it's running all 6 cores happily at 4.3Ghz with room for more and nothing is putting it under pressure.

This type of technology has barely evolved in the last 5 - 10 years.

That said, a 6 - core @ 5ghz would tempt any gamer!

Lamo, wouldn't doubt that it crashed soon after that benchmark then. Absolutely pointless.

still 28 cores at 5ghz for 300 euro's would have been nice. Once can only dream.

6 cores/12 threads is way more then enough I'll ever need since all I'm really doing is just heaving gaming on my PC.

Heck. I'm thinking of a mere i5-8400 as my CPU replacement. I think 6 cores/6 threads is adequate enough.

I'm assuming this thing will be ridiculously expensive and hopefully they soldered the heat spreaders on instead of using paste. Else, Threadripper 2 or even 1 would be better with thermals and more pocket friendly. Actually no one should touch these kind of chips unless you're a content creator, edit video, etc.

You'll never get an small Intel CPU die soldered to the IHS any more, there's a technical reason for this and most people an't understand it.

Meh, I probably don't have to upgrade for a while since I just got my 8700k build ready. It lacks a GPU, but the machine is not for gaming, for now anyways, maybe in the future.
