A little about me before I begin,  For as long as I can remember I have been an xbox fanboy.  On the origional xbox I have over 150 games, and I have about 30 on the 360.  Since the days of the 64, Ive never really liked the sony playstation.  I origionally did not like them for what they and the market have done to Sega, and over the years I never was really interested in them,  ive never owned a ps1,  i got a ps2 slim just for god of war and some RPG's but im not one of those guys that go back into memory lane with sony.  My memories are with xbox.  So for about 5 months now ive done nothing but talk smack about a ps3, because i already own a 360 with a bunch of games and the true fact about ps3 and 360 is that they both are pretty much going to have the same games, its all multiplatform now.  with that said i am starting to realize the 360 for the demon that it really is.  i used to love the achievement point system, I would be happy every time i got one. I would love xbox live, and argue its the greatest way to play online...ever!!  i would say, master chief will rock your world over any other game figure.  but, I am not a teenager any more, my metabolizm is slowing down, and i am realizing the true flaws of the 360  and recognizing the ps3 as a system designed around more  "hardcore" gamers.  Let me tell you some of my thoughts on this and see what you think

 1) the achievement point system- It is nothing more than a cheap ploy to force microsoft customers to buy new games, it is a hollow false way of microsoft telling you that you are good at videogames.  I do not ever want to say "please microsoft, please recognize my gaming skills and give me an achievement point"  I know i am nasty at games, I dont need a gamerscore to tell me that.  Also, it forces me to buy more games, heres an example,  i love fight night 3, absolutely love it, i have all 1000 points, but now, when i go to pop in fight night, a voice in my head tells me to play a different game and earn more achievement points, achievement points actually corrupt the gaming experience.

2) xbox live-  its an awesome thing, i can play with millions of people and voicechat with them galore, its 50$ a year for the epoch in online gaming.  microsoft is charging money for something that has existed for 20 years.  the fact that it costs 50$ a year is so important because, its true its only 50$ but the true devil in this is that it instigates more 360 playing,  it makes one want to play live as much as possible to really get there moneys worth.  if i owned a ps3 and a 360 i would feel compelled to play live because my bank account is being charged once a year.  i feel that the existence of this effect is not a problem for many people, but like i said i consider myself a hardcore gamer and i feel that this is something that can corrupt a gamer and change him or her into nothing more than a microsoft pawn.

3) all these upgrades-  new maps every 2 weeks... lost planet, rainbow 6, graw, graw 2, oblivion,    are just a few examples of games that i feel have been corrupted by microsoft.  In that, they release these map upgrades and charge people for them, sometimes even though the game developer does not want to charge.  and people buy them because of the "xbox live syndrome"   the feeling that "hey im already paying for this so i might as well pick up these maps".   xbx live, and the explosion of the market place have turned the 360 into an addictive drug, NOT a gaming system

4) the fact that ps3 is an all in one-  im basically talking about 2 things here, the fact that it has the wireless adaptor built in, and a blue ray.  its great that xbox 360 gives people a "choice" as to what accessories they want to buy,  but in the end, once you buy them all it ends up being more expensive,  i WANT a wireless coneection, its a choice ive made so i bought the adapter, whereas ps3 i feels is tailored to a more hardcore gamer and these features are included.   Also the blue ray feature is a considerable aspect to recognize,  i just purchased a 56" 1080p hdtv and i would like to watch some movies, i want it to be convenient, i want to watch the best media possible, the best media possible is blue ray.  hd-dvd are just not as good, and the y are selling 2:9 against blueray.  these are again, features, yes xbox gives me a choice about them, but i am getting older now, i dont want to play around with all these boxes and contraptions in my entertainment unit, i dont want a movie stored on my tiny xbox harddrive that i bought from xbx marketplace, i want a tangable blueray disk.

Lets assume that both systems are going to last for 5 years,  i want the maximum features of both systems and over this time xbox 360 becomes more expensive

 ps3 600              xbox 360  400

wireless  0                            100

hd movies 0                         200

online gaming 0                       50 year, x 5 = 250

total    600                             950

As you might have picked up on, i own alot of games, the money is not the main issure for me, the conclusion of this post is my confession that i honestly feel like i am being milked, and used, and taken advantage of by microsoft, i feel that it has corrupted me into just another revenue source for microsoft.  I am a gamer, and i feel that ps3 is designed with the gamer in mind. PS3 is a superior system, not because the hardware is better, not because it has more fetures and more convenience, not because heavenly sword looks really fun, but because it does not corrupt your soul, like 360 has done to mine.

should i trade my 360 in, and get a ps3 instead.  I do not want both systems, because i do not like what microsoft is doing to the gaming community, if i owned both i would be compelled to play 360 just because i am paying extra money for what ps3 does for free.  what do you guys think?

It's nice that you recognize what M$ is doing, but fun is fun. In the end, you avoided the PSOne, you barely touched the PS2, why do you think the PS3 will entertain you?

It's a neat system, and a great deal if you can use it's feature's, but is it for you?

That's what you need to ask yourself....I have a PS3 AND a 360. I had to have both.

Xbox Live is a centralized service which is why it is $50... and Sega pretty much commited suicide.

Well, the decision is yours.

But my suggestion is that you should get the system that has the most games you want.

That's an alright post. I can see where you're getting at with achievements and XBL.

Thing is that many people would like to have an option so that they don't invest in something they don't want or would nessessarily use in the future (Blu-Ray for instace). But you're right in saying it hurts when you want the maximum from your system.

What you may forget is you buy systems for the games that are on it. The features are an added bonus, optional or not.

That was a good read an I agree with everything you've said. I was able to come to those same conclusions over a year ago as I saw what MS was doing with the manipulative pricing scheme and non-gaming related addictive qualities. I've seen one of my friends completely taken over by XBL even though he aknowedges it and he wishes he wasn't. MS is charging a very reasonable price for the system but everything about it is designed to take more and more of your money without you realizing how much it really is. Expensive proprietary accessories, charging for online service that is free everywhere else, forcing people to map for maps and extras that should be dirt cheap or free. They have an excellent pricing scheme from a business standpoint but it is not good for the gamers.

Sony is going the route that best benifits the gamers and consumers, while sacrificing their own potential profits. PS3 includes everything you need or could want standard which is not only nice but allows developers to fully exploit all features. The HDD is generic, the memory cards are generic.... Sony stands to make no money off of it. Xbox was the console that did included everything last generation and the fanboys bashed PS2 for being like 360 is now with add-ons, but now 360 is far far worse at the same thing people bashed PS2 for.

The scary thing is that MS is still trying to compete for the top spot and have already started manipulative pricing and are extracting money for every last little thing. If Sony is forced out and MS dominates console and PC games, I can't even imagine what do once consumers have no other options.

Wow! That is just a whole nother level.

I smell a fakeboy in the TC. I mean come on, the 360 corrupted your soul? Why? because of the achievement points forces you to buy new games? Buy games that you like and don't buy them just because of achievement points. If you really don't care about achievements, then why on Earth are you not playing Fight Night because you want to spend more time on a new game to get some achievements? Some of his points are really pathetic. Why buy games that you don't like for the sake of gamerscores? Geez.....you have to be really stupid to do that. Don't even get me started on the microtransactions. If you don't like it....don't buy it. Simple as that. but then again, I could've done the same thing a be a fakeboy and make a topic about "Teh confessions of a Sony faboy"

You forgot the repaircosts $125-$250 which many of us 360 have to pay sometimes multiple times, if you really look at it the PS3 is CHEAP!!

150 Xbox games? Holy crap, you bought a lot of terrible games. If you are that into gaming I cannot even begin to comprehend how you could not have owned/enjoyed a PS or a PS2. There were probably 15, at most, exclusives on the Xbox that were must-own games at 50 bucks apiece.

1.) Achievements make games alot bettter. It makes the game alot longer. If your like me and dont consider the game done until you've beaten all the achievements then its great. And I dont go out and buy new games just for achievement. I buy them because I want them and then I get the achievement in them so I can feel I've really beaten the game.

2.) Are you kiddiny. Dude put away like 5 bucks a month and you will realize its not exspensive at all. I dont feel obligated to play my 360 just because I pay for it. I actually play about 3 hours on weekdays where as on weekends I play alot. It depends on how much your into the game. That was just a plain stupid argument.

3.) This one I have to admit is true. MS forcing developers to charge for downloadable content is BS. Although I wont even get the new GeoW maps if there not enrolled in MLG rules.

4.) LOL you say you dont want to have to mess with a bunch of boxes and then say you would rather have discs then movies stored on your 360. I would much rather have no disc and have it just on my harddrive so that way I dont have CD cases all over the place. Also the 360 does become more exspensive over time but I would rather pay for Xbox live anyway because it is 100x better than the PS3 online.

Typical fakeboy strategy. First, they'll try to get credebility or sympathy by pretending to own the console brand they're trying to bash. Then they'll say a couple of good things about it. After that.........the bashing begins. Unfortunately, any fanboy here could've made a story on how they own and liked the Wii or the PS3 by saying obvious things about it. Then they'll bash it mercilessly. But this fakeboy is hilarious though. He said the 360 corrupted his soul  He said that the Achievements forces a gamer to buy a new game. Every sane gamer here knows he or she should buy games that he or she likes.

jk. Well, I think there's nothing wrong with having both, I mean you don't have to log into Live if you don't want to. Achievements downloadable stuff all it's optional.

let me help auther put his words in a more simple way:

1、xbox360's XBL、upgrades、achevements point system : BAD, cause they are too much fun that players enjoy them too much

 2、PS3's blu-ray: GOOD,cause i'm old so i want to watch blu-ray DVD on a videogame console

3、conclusion: PS3 is for hardcore gamers

 4、what do you think?

Hmm, I found a few of these responses helpful.  Some of you agreed with what I was trying to get at with the achievement points and marketplace scam.  You know, I read alot of game magazines, I used to like gamepro but now i read them all.  let me put it like this.  on one of the newest issues of the official xbox magazine, the one with the free disk, right on the cover it says "Get 10,000 achievement points in one day!"  so i read the article to discover that it just showed me how to beat certain games on their easiest difficulty to get the points.  i just dont think that is what gaming should be.  as for those of you who said i am a fakeboy,  i tried to write this article from a perspective that shows how i used to like all these things but then realized what they really are.  just a cheap parlor trick to get another dollar.  also, i never owned a ps2 or ps1 but i have a shugar load of origional xbox games, most are multiplatform but it was just the system of choice for me.  the reason i am considering a ps3 is not only does it already include everything i want in a game system, but it does not have all this microsofr point propaganda, that strait up corrupts videogamers.  the reason why I am undeniably right in this instance is by reading some of your negative posts to this article

Crazyivaniv your artical is BULLCRAP. WHy? Because

1> Wireless - NOONE even has a network set up in their hom yet much less a wireless one. This is a100% completley USELESS feature that has ZERO bearing on games & gameplay.

2> HD movies - Again 100% COMPLETELY USELSS FEATURE. If you're THAT concerened about movies....why in gods name are you buying a VIDEO GAME machine? NOONE and I mean NOONE is buying HD movies PERIOD. Even blu-ray sales are in the toilet.

3> xbox live $50 a month - BOo-hoo go cry me a river. This is only an unnessary expence if yopu plan on buying NO games for your ps3. The $50 is worth it...why? This actually does go to play for ALOT of things like keeping ALL old games on-line regardless of how unpopular they are, 13 for example is still supported by xbox live even tho there are zero players & Games for it. Now on the playstation network MGS3 went offline after only one year due to lack on interest....why? Because sonys free on-line service means that companies have to supply their OWN servers & support at their own costs and that does cost money to operate. XBL also doesn't really lag and has great connection rates for 3rd party titles. sony entwork...only first part stuff has decent connectivity & lag times.

what are u talking about, me not having a wireless network.  i dont want to get into your mumbo jumbo computer jargon but my xbox 360 WIRELESSLY connects to live because of the WIRELESS adaptor that i paid 100$ for.  you know... the one that comes in the ps3 for no extra charge.   Now Blueray disks ARE selling.. they are beating hddvd at a ratio of 9:2.  In my origional post i explained how i have a 56" 1080p tv and how i am very interested in watching high def movies in 1080p.  I can only do this on a ps3.  Finally I added the price comparison argument to try and exemplify my arguments in regards to how the marketplace and achievement points so easilly take your money without you knowing it.  the x360 hardware does the same thing by giving you a "choice" of what system attachments you should get

For a total trolling thread, you sure typed out a long read.

Good move. As we can see with this thread, most people believe that if you make your post extremely long, you are right about whatever you are talking about.

You have no way to refute this claim except to attack the fact that he makes it. It does cost more for the same stuff. If you don't need it, don't buy it, but there's no way to argue that for the same features, 360 costs more. Bu-bu-bu anti-fanboyism usually amounts to the same thing.

thanks for your long post

I'd recommand you trade in your 360

I used to have both, but then PS3 appears to be more complete in every aspect, so I sold my 360, and not feel a thing about it, because for some moment there, I thought I'd be missing, but I'm not :)

anyway, what I'm trying to say is that PS3 is awesome !!!

Good post although I don't share your view about achievements and live (but its still awefull they make us pay to host our own games).

i always say that the ps3 is meant to be the center of the living room. Bluray, its lack of noise and the beautifull look of the thing make me say that. 360 is for a game room or kids bed room. Its ugly and makes way to much noise to use as a media center.

1) You let the acheivement points ruin your gaming experience...want ot play fight night round 3? GO AHEAD.
2) You let the fee control you
3) You don't need to buy the maps
4) I'm not gonna go into detail on this stuff, but it is all debatable.

In short, your letting games take over your life buddy. Try to relax and dum down the paranoia that somebody is trying to control you and play the games you want to play, the way you want to play them. Regardless of what it 'seems' you should be doing.

Every sane gamer here knows he or she should buy games that he or she likes.TheTrystero024

That is exactly what he is doing. he just created this new id today for this soul purpose.

Why is it milking it's totally free, unless you want to buy the extra stuff but that's just a "choice" right fanboy?

I think thats what he's getting at.  Cows are claiming that X360 owners get "milked" by microtransactions, but when a service that will have similar features is announced for PS3 they all say "But teh Homezors!"

As to the TC, um, dude, you and your "friend" who is addicted to XBL need to learn some self control.  I've never bought a game just to get the achievement points, and I've certainly never purchased downloadable content just because "I already paid for the service."  I find myself worried for your credit score in a few years, especially if this lack of self control is evident in other facets of your life.  "Hey, I signed up for a credit card right?  Might as well use it!"...I mean seriously.  Gamerpoints and XBL charges don't compel you to play XBL, heck MS even made it easy for you to stop, you don't even have to get up to turn the console off...

Seems like you picked the wrong system then.  While you do have valid points, I think most of your reasons are either opinion or only apply to you.  I love achievements (ever hear of RENTING), love Xbox live (the price actually helps in keeping the average age of entry higher than normal, although doesn't completely stop idiots), and I didn't need integrated wireless and an HD movie player.

All in all, 360 is the choice for me because it has the most games I want, I think you need to look ahead and see if the 360 or PS3 seems to have the better games, and then rethink your decision.

System sales prove otherwise.

What does xbox's vastly superior game library consist of exactly? I own both systems and would very much like to get more xbox games for my library.

The xbox had a couple of good exclusives and had the superior games when it came to multiplats. However, its lack of quality games is one of the reasons it failed.

I have absolutely no time for anybody who honestly says achievement points FORCE you to play games. Are you FORCED to come to gamespot to increase your level? No. Nobody cares. You come here when you actually want to. So that point is completely mute.

As for the price; why do you need an HD movie player to play games? Or wireless networking? If the PS3 included a pop-corn maker would you add that on to the price of the 360 too?

I disagree with your topic title. That wasn't worth the read at all.

Hmm, I found a few of these responses helpful. Some of you agreed with what I was trying to get at with the achievement points and marketplace scam. You know, I read alot of game magazines, I used to like gamepro but now i read them all. let me put it like this. on one of the newest issues of the official xbox magazine, the one with the free disk, right on the cover it says "Get 10,000 achievement points in one day!" so i read the article to discover that it just showed me how to beat certain games on their easiest difficulty to get the points. i just dont think that is what gaming should be. as for those of you who said i am a fakeboy, i tried to write this article from a perspective that shows how i used to like all these things but then realized what they really are. just a cheap parlor trick to get another dollar. also, i never owned a ps2 or ps1 but i have a shugar load of origional xbox games, most are multiplatform but it was just the system of choice for me. the reason i am considering a ps3 is not only does it already include everything i want in a game system, but it does not have all this microsofr point propaganda, that strait up corrupts videogamers. the reason why I am undeniably right in this instance is by reading some of your negative posts to this articleCrazyIvanIV

A) Never refer to your post as an "article".

B) Never say you're "undeniably right"

C) If you insist on saying you are indeed "undeniably right" it helps to back this up with some reasoning.
