It's not a fact of course, but its pretty much a confident claim by IGN based on their experience (albeit limited) playing the game and Blizzard's track record. Plus, what the Diablo team is doing gameplay-wise sounds really good.

Also, IGN doesn't really like Blizzard games.

People's confidence in Blizzard and Valve> people's confidence in Bioware and Bethesda and even DICE.

The Diablo 3 team comprises some of the best men in the industry.

Jay Wilson has worked on Dawn of War, Company of Heroes.

Leonard Boyarsky is writing the story this time around is one of the creators of the Fallout universe.

No. Trailers are handled by a completely separate department. And Leonard is one of the best writers in the industry, seriously.

The problem with Blizzard, as in Starcraft 2, is not bad writers. But writers being given limited freedom. Sc2 story could be better if it were written as a M-rated game, but Blizzard was too adamant in making the game as T-rated, so in someways, the writing was dumbed-down.

Warcraft is the same. T-rated, but tries to present complex themes.

Diablo is different; it is M-rated, therefore it allows for more complex writing representing the dark world.

StarCraft II's problem was the lack of Chris Metzen. The Raynor/Tychus relationship was done well, though.

Well, the writer, Brian Kindegran or something along that, wrote Mass Effect 2. YES.

I dunno, the Diablo formula feels kinda outdated nowadays. I hope Blizzard takes a couple of notes from Bethesda and BioWare, considering how much they both have improved the action RPG genre this generation, making perfect hybrids of action-based gameplay and RPG elements.

Well, he's actually right (ironbass) that in someways, Diablo formula feels outdated. Like the simple click, click, click. (Diablo 3 will require a far greater degree of tactical positioning, so it tries to improve the combat there).

There's the problem with the health system, Diablo 3 is changing that up too.

The skill system, completely reworked.

Of course, lets not forget the inclusion of destructible environment.

Yes because games like Oblivion and Mass Effect are bastions of stat based rpg mechanics.. Oh thats right, both games threw both things pretty much out of the window.. And I like how you use "simple" in it, when Oblivion and Mass Effect 2 both were dumbed down in multiple ways in mechanic for simplicity rather then rectifying any problems.. There are ways of improving the system, games like Oblivion didn't what so ever.. They have in fact devolved with less options or startegy compared to past games.. Not good comparisons WHAT so ever.. Furthermore Diablo is not a action rpg.. Its a hack n slash rpg.. It was based upon this premise of dungeon crawling.. And these mechanics have made people play these type of games far longer than anything provided by Oblivion, mass effect etc etc.. They are not the same games, top comparing them..

I would love nothing more than for Diablo 3 to be a really, really good game. It's just, I haven't thoroughly enjoyed a Blizzard game since WoW:TBC.

I didn't like WoTLK, Cataclysm, or SC2 and I've really given Blizzard a lot of chances.....I just don't think I'm going to like this game since I haven't really enjoyed the modern Blizzard stuff that much. I hope it'll surprise me....I'm going to have to play the entire game at my friends house to make sure before I buy this one though (seeing as you can't sell Blizzard games used!).
