I'm just wondering some of the thoughts on this.

my PS3 has practically taken up all my entertainment time, and though i love my 360, practically every game on it i can get on the PS3. with the exception of Mass Effect 1 and 2 at the moment. not in the near future, but soon enough when i'm out of college i'll be able to afford a real desktop, so i could just wait till then to pick up Mass Effect (or by luck Mass Effect may very well come to the PS3 at a later date).

lately the Wii has been looking really good at the moment as a console for games that do something besides shoot it. lol...

plus i'm missing Mario, Yoshi, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, and Metroid.

This is purely down the road, and i thought i'd share some of my thoughts.

so what do you think a go for the Wii or no go? mind you the Wii would be a purely subsidary gaming console. while there is a drought with the Wii between the awesome first party stuff, i could play on my PS3.

hmmm?

As long as you have another console and some money to spend, the Wii isn't a bad choice. Nothing like a little Galaxy and Brawl every once and awhile.

The Wii is definitely a good investment for quality niche titles that arent in the shooting genre XD

Its library is still considered too niche and low on qualty titles so I suggest you do a search yourself and see if you like what you see beyond Mario, Zelda etc.

This, Wii is really just a secondary console you boot up every once in awhile to play some exclusives, nothing else.

all true. games i'd definently pick and keep.

  1. Super Mario Galaxy
  2. Super Mario Brosthers Brawl
  3. Metroid Prime Trilogy (three games in one)
  4. Punch Out
  5. Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess (my first Zelda since Ocarina of Time)
  6. Muramasa's Demon's Blade
  7. Okami
  8. Cursed Mountain (looks like an interesting game)

Virtual Console:

  1. Donkey Kong Country
  2. Star Fox 64
  3. Super Mario World
  4. Super Metroid (never played it, had always intended to)
  5. Yoshi's Island

Upcoming Games:

  1. Super Mario Galaxy 2
  2. Metroid : Other M
  3. Zelda Wii * (no official title yet)
  4. Epic Mickey

i mean it's not nearly as long as my PS3 list. but it's something. i don't know. got my hands full with my PS3. and with Netflix and Cross Game Chat coming to PS3 (the three things i want from 360 to PS3) and rumors of Mass Effect coming to PS3 (that one game that holds has me holding on to my 360).

hmm...

The Virtual Console+ the entire Gamecube Library+ the entire Wii Library should peek your interest. I personally love the Wii especially for giving me a game like Punch-Out!!

I guess i'm sniffing the pheromone of Nastalgia. I really like my PS3 and it's providing everything i want out of my gaming wants and needs. wasn't much of a guy for Xbox, Gears of War is cool, absolutely love Mass Effect, never ever cared for Halo (i'm not trashing it, just never liked it personally). that's also something to add. i've never owned a Gamecube, i skipped it last generation when i went PS2-only.

Unfortuanly the wii won't satify your starfox and donkey kong desire unless its more old school snes titles. But the upcomming games do look good with the usual good first party games that already came out.

Well I bought the PS3 and Wii at launch. I still have my 60 GB PS3, but I sold my Wii about a year and a half ago. I beat Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, RE4 Wii Edition, etc. Brawl is fun, but gets boring after a while unless you have friends over to play it with you. I'm more of a single player gamer, and the Wii was more of party console so I sold it. With some new titles coming out, I'm considering buying one again...although the PS3 is also taking up a majority of my gaming time. (Demon's Souls, Uncharted, etc)

If you like Mario, Zelda, SSB, Metroid and the gang, I think you should.

If you aren't in love with those franchises, hold off.

I am PSWii60, and I got to admit it's nice, but I also have to admit my Wii doesn't get as much playtime as he did back in 2007. Then again, for you, you could go back and play all the games I've enjoyed this entire gen, plus upcoming gems.

I say go for it, but make sure you have key titles in mind before you make the jump. It's about the games, not the machine. :)

Meh, its not that good, only reason our dorm/communal room still has one is because we can get all the games free on it. not that there is many good ones to even bother. having more fun with 2-4 player SNES/MEgadrive/N64 games on it.

Honestly it's ridiculous to make this kind of comment. It's simply not true of PC, and it's certainly not true of the PS3 / 360. Games like Demon's Souls, Forza 3, Ratchet & Clank and Brutal Legend have little to do with "shooting"...

-

My question before anyone buys a Wii is "do you own a DS"? The DS is a FAR better investment than the Wii if you don't already have one.

Very well put. As far a games library goes ( one it's been working on for a while) I feel the DS has a lot more variety to offer.

I concur, the DS (DS Lite would be cheaper) could be an interesting investment for you. You could match it up with a used Gamecube and get a lot of mileage out of your two Nintendo systems.

If you want to play some retro games and don't have your old consoles around, however, the Wii is still a solid investment.

hmm I'll have to give it more careful thought. though i absolutely love Mass Effect franchise, i can wait for the future and buy it when it's dirt cheap and i can afford a PC desktop that could properly handle it. but keeping a machine that plays just ONE game i can't justify it. Another reason is i hang out at my friends dorm room and we don't typically play together because when were on PS3 it's either one of us or the other, almost never the same person.

primarily what's driving me towards the Wii are three things,

  1. Mario, Samus, Virtual Console Donkey Kong and Star Fox.
  2. I can locally with friends.
  3. Different library from PS3.

Primary concern is game-time. so the Wii would almost entirely be merely a subsidiary (part of the show) not THE show. there are more games i'm anticipating for my PS3 then i'm looking forward to the Wii. which i guess helps out when things get boring on the PS3.

  13. Super Mario Galaxy 2
  14. Legend of Zelda : Wii *
  15. Muramasa's Demon's Blade

that's about it... right there. not much else interests me.

still don't know, main concern is if i'll even play it or not. all that cash could be just going to more software for my PS3, PSP Go, and DS.

(check out my wishlist on my profile... it is pretty long heh).

What? The ratchet series in general has alot to do with shooting. The main draw of the series is blowing up crap up with awesome weapons after all.

As for the ds being a better investment I gotta agree.

Based on what you said I really think you should. I am sure you will have a lot of fun.

I would recommend Little King's Story. It is the best game on the system this year and it is being sold at good prices, especially considering that it takes nearly 40 hours to finish it.

Go for the Wii, it definitely gives you a different experience with its niche titles. It's also great for local multiplayer, and considering that you have a PS3, you've pretty much covered most of the exclusives right there.

"Shooters" = FPS It's the ignorant statement that plagues this and other forums. Take Valkyria Chronicles - technically it has "shooting" and you "aim" in real time, but only someone ignorant of its gameplay would call it a "shooter". And R&C is at heart a shoot-em-up platformer, it's not Halo.

It doesn't have much that the DS doesn't, and it many cases the "cost" to "value" ratio is poor compared to the other consoles. It's nice to have though if you already have everything else, but if you've got a laundry list of games you still need on your 360, PS3, and DS, it doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense to drop $200 on hardware, when that could be 3 ~ 4 new games.

Its a good console, and severely underrated by 'gamers' here. I say if you have even a slight interest in Nintendo title, you'd love it.

My question before anyone buys a Wii is "do you own a DS"? The DS is a FAR better investment than the Wii if you don't already have one.

subrosian

thing is, some people, like myself, just aren't into handheld gaming. even though I'm not a fan of the Wii, I'd actually take it over a DS.

Since it has the franchises you enjoy, get one. I never play mine, but that's because I don't care for most of their first party games. Oh, and I'm a total graphics ho'.

I had a Wii, and a 360, and I basically never played the Wii. Maybe once a month, or I'd play a game for the split screen multiplayer game, but if you don't like the quality of single player games on the 360, you will most likely dislike the single player games on Wii.

This^

360 gets more of my gaming time for the awesome multiplats but there are a bunch of exclusives that come out for the Wii and are a lot of fun to play. I recommend keeping your 360 if you dont have a PS3 if you do have a PS3 there isnt much need for a 360 but by all means you should get a Wii.

Well for one thing....

Mass Effect will never be on the ps3

and two......

Why not just get a used Gamecube for like $20(like myself) and have the same games and graphics for much less :|

scarface_dm

REALLY!??!

You can play Super Mario Galaxy, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, Red Steel 2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Metroid Other M, and VC games on the GCN?!?

Get the Wii, but keep the other two..go for the Trifecta. It's a great place to be with all the great games coming out.
