Halo Wars was fun, BFME II wasn't too bad either. Can we use older consoles as well? Cause General Chaos, Dune 2, and Herzog Zwei kicked ass. Ooohh and Starcraft for the 64, purely for the splitscreen gameplay. :D

I'm not *really* a console gamer - at least, not a console only gamer - but... Oddly enough, I burnt myself out on the genre with Starcraft. Did some Age of Empires as well, many flavours of C&C, a bit of Dune and Warcraft I and II. TBS has been more my speed since then, and Warcraft III was a terrible letdown. Civ IV has possibly been my most played game, ever. Can't wait for Civ V :)

I would like to see developers continue making RTS games that have the console design in mind. In that sense, I don't mean nerf/drag PC counterparts down to fit the consoles, but instead create one that is truly unique for the consoles. Halo Wars is a good example, but it still pertains to the formula PC RTS games have perfected.

As a console only gamer (hopefully PC gamer someday) I don't really care too much for them. I've played a few RTS "lite" kind of games that were enjoyable, but when you get to those core kind of RTS games that can only be played on the PC, I don't really care for them. I'm not saying that those games aren't or can't be good. I just think I need more experience with them. At the moment I either find them too overwhelming or too boring to play.

Ehh, maybe someday a switch will flip and I'll like them. I'm more into tower defense type games than straight RTS.

I play WC3 and SC every now and then but I think Halo Wars and even LotR: BFME2 worked well on the 360.

I play RTSs on PC not on consoles but I'm a console gamer. I love the Rise of Nations series. I also like Star Craft, Age of Empires, Dune 2000, and Red Alert 2.

For a console RTS, I really enjoyed Halo Wars. There were some frustrating bits but overall, stellar. Gorgeous CGI cutscenes more than made up for it, for a Halo Fan. I thoroughly enjoy the Dawn of War series, although I still think it's extremely underrated. And more people are playing the board/toy game more than the PC game nowadays.. I'd like for this series to reclaim it's name once again. I'm definitely going to be picking up StarCraft II. My first RTS game was Command and Conquer, and then I moved on to Starcraft.

Developers are totally lazy when it comes to console RTS's.

Why can they not include the option for keyboard and mouse?

Its BS the way they do that.

I just wonder if anyone actually buys console RTS games, they are so sub standard compared to PC RTS games its not funny and does not portray the quality of a good pc RTS game. Whats worse is when good series like Supreme Commander are ruined on PC because of consoles, yet console users still dont pick it up. Despite how you feel about PC gaming, you will never get a good RTS experience on a console. Is there any hardcore RTS goers here who play exclusively on consoles or are devs just ruining good IPs for no reason?

NanoMan88
I couldn't agree more. Whoever decided to make an RTS game for a console thinking that anything less than a mouse and keyboard would be sufficient....well...they were crazy. After years of playing StarCraft, games like Halo Wars are a total joke.

woudl i buy any of the curent RTSs on console? absolutely not. tried some demos and its not for me. i cant tolerate the controller. but will consoles ever get a decent RTS? yes they will and the potential is already there. the wiimote and move could be used quite effectively in a RTS (it boggels the mind why devs have not made a proper RTS on the wii) and natal could also bring some new and interesting things to the genre. but with a standard controller....no i wouldnt touch them.

no. kb/m will always win for RTS. kb for multiple specific commands done quickly and efficiently. My favourite of these is numbering groups of units thus providing ultimate control and organisation. mouse is ultimate accuracy tool.

I tried Lord of the Rings RTS on the 360 it was difficult to play because I had to use the 360 controller. I do think they should make a proper RTS with motion control because I agree that all three motion control options can work great for RTSs on consoles.

That game played just fine. I never felt limited by anything other than not being able to click on the mini map and the camera be there instantly.

Maybe your right I haven't played that game since 2007 that is the last year I had a 360 and I only rented it so I probably didn't really get into it by the time we returned it.

I do....it simply takes practice like any other game to get good at a console rts....I found the RTS controls on the genesis version of dune 2000 to be great...so I see nothing wrong with other console rts which is why I purchase them.

Yes. My PC is dead, so really I have no other choice than to play them on consoles. Halo Wars was actually a great game imo, and the multiplayer really fun. EA RTS games have also been great, my favourite being LOTR: BFMEII. Next up, ill be getting Civ Rev I think.

I love RTS games. I think the first DOW was one of the best games ever made, and I think CoH and WiC are contenders too. That said, I had a blast with Halo Wars and I honestly think from the bottom of my heart that SupCom 2 is better than the first one.

If there were more and they tried to to new and innovative things like on the PC. But considering the RTS console offerings we have, no.

I would like to see some kind of Wii RTS just because the wiimote/nunchuck is so well set-up for it.

I don't find the console rts games hard to navigate. In fact, I'm ok as I am on pc. Yet they are so dumbed down, its not even funny. As a whole though, I'm not a big fan of the genre. I can totally see the appeal, but yeah; I personally have to pass.

I love RTSs. I haven't really gotten into many of them on Consoles because of controls, but I thought supreme commander did a good job in get the controls down. The only thing is (I haven't played Halo Wars to comment on this game) I have found the graphics and performance takeaback seaton consoles. As a console is fixed hardware that can't be changed. Other than that as a console owner I care very much so.

I like Starcraft a lot and will probably buy Starcraft II. I got it recently and while it's not the kind of game I spend hours playing, if I'm ever bored I can 100% depend on it to help me out. Great game.

But console RTS? Nah, consoles are inept for RTS. The Wii could probably do something interesting with the genre though.

You can use http://www.impulsedriven.com/to get impulse. It's stardock's knockoff version of steam, but they have all their games on it, including sins and all it's expansions.

Yes, its the genre I wish most to be done well on a console.

That is one of my higher hopes for Move, as the E3 demo showed of its RTS potential (and they have gotten Star Craft to work on Move too)

I love RTS's when World In Conflict was cancelled i was utterly destroyed on the inside.

BFME II is one of my favorite RTS's ever and i loved it on the 360. Granted certain RTS's can't be played on a console (Total war series comes to mind, and the actual Civ's not the boiled down game that revolution was)

For the most part i have tried most of them (except halo wars because i hate halo) endwar wasn't bad but i agree they should make a pure console RTS, the voice control that endwar has is really the best thing going for console RTS's to come IMO. Oddly enough though i never really liked the warcraft's. :(
