Soon there will be no point in owning a console. All the games we be shared . right now console companys are being forced more and more to reline on first party games. Consoles are getting so expensive 599 us dollars anyone?

Only way to get costs down would be to go pc . Its the only way gaming will make it .

So we would have to pay over $1000 for a machine that can play the same games a $300 machine can? Nty Also, you've forgotten about mobile and handheld games. That market has nowhere to go but up.

So, after this week everybody wants to be a hermit apparently... I guess no article was needed for that, right?? right??

And no. Nothing is dying here, nothing is killing consolegaming and probably never will.

Don't we get a thread like this every week?

Modern Warfare 2 console sales + NSMBW sales.

the amount of comments on this site, kind of say otherwise. If it was dead here that would make a whole lot more sense.

On the contrary, I think console gaming has never been stronger. It's the PC that's dying.

Consoles are taking up more and more PC characteristics. By next generation they will just be pc's you hook up to your tv. Ps3 already has upgreadable hard drive, built in browser, keyboard support, etc. The big games get ported across the 3 platforms, and so on. Only the wii does something slightly different. It's the only console really.

XBOX360 AND PS3 ARE STANDARDIZED PC'S FOR THE POVERTY STRICKEN CHILD GAMER.

I see it this way: Consoles are trying to be PC´s so badly and if that trend keeps up,they will eventualy become obsolete.

But,in their current state, they are quite profitable and therefore not dying.

yeah consoles as you know them are dying major 3rd party exclusives are a thing of the past pretty much everything is multiplatform now adays save for first party developers that microsoft and sony pay to stay exclusive to one system. Some how the pc manages to get the most third party exclusives I suspect it has to do with lower development cost. Makes me wonder how bad it will be next gen when development cost increase another 5 fold for the ps4 and xbox 720!

I have a proposal for SW: anyone who wants to use the "consoles are for poor people" argument should be required to post their previous year's W-2.

Well I know he's right. I mean a PC gamer wrong? Yea right.. I should probably just sell mine to then to be safe and start playing games the correct way.

At least this thread is a change from what I usually see .... PC gaming is dying....

or the opposite of what we are used to seeing anyway.

However as far as I can tell all aspects of the industry are strong and look to be in excellent shape for both the immediate and long term future.

Console gaming isnt dying its changing, as with Pc gaming with marjory of games going with digital distribution and being influenced heavily with console standards. Which is why most people who built high ended pc's in 2006-2007 havent needed to do any major upgrading since the graphics with games are based on 2005 based console gpu's. Now with console gaming changing into a melting pot as it now becoming , the generation after next wont have any real differences between each other. Their going to get to a point where their will be only one console brand.

lol, I love all of these "_______ are/is dying" threads that pop up all over the place. It must be fabulous to think that so many depressing things are going on around you all at once.

How is console or PC gaming dying, exactly? The gaming industry as a whole is simply evolving as it grows, and it is growing faster than any other form of entertainment. Sales records are broken all the time, and a game selling one million copies can nearly be considered a flop at this point.

I actually sort of agree with your idea of this issue. The reality (as I see it at least) is a lot less appealing than it may sound to hermits, though. See, because whatever sells will survive, pre-built rigs will become the standard as time goes on, and consoles will just sort of merge with PCs. What we'll be left with is user friendly, difficult to modify/personalize entertainment boxes, stripped of a lot of what PC gamers find appealing - streamlined to a fault and compatible only with proprietary parts, to be sold to a much larger demographic to maximize profits.

That's just one scenario though, but I think that it might come down to that. I'd much rather consoles and PCs stay separate though, compared to such a future.

Why do a lot of people need a system to die so badly? Why is our focus on everything negative in order to warrant the death of a system? All 4 primary systems along with the handhelds have their own flaws, but none of their current flaws say they will die.

I could see that happening or something very similar. It seems that most PC exclusives don't get much attention these days and the only PC titles that do get noticed are the multiplat games.

I agree with you about wanting consoles and PCs to stay separate.

Soon there will be no point in owning a console. All the games we be shared . right now console companys are being forced more and more to reline on first party games. Consoles are getting so expensive 599 us dollars anyone?

Only way to get costs down would be to go pc . Its the only way gaming will make it .

dontshackzmii

wii says no ,,

and that only costed me 249,99

not 1000 for a slow operating system lol -windows 7/vista ne 1 in fact the last fast operating system was me/98 lol

took seconds to load not minutes

console gaming is not dead , nintendo the reason , ,

now if ms and sony were left then yes id be woried , because all they do is pump out graphic monsters and release 1 particular genre

first person shooters,

with a lil sports and racing on the side, -think of those as appetizers ,

oh and free roam gta games forgot those but ya ,, same basic gameplay as a third person shooter just more freedom ,

but there hasnt been a good free roam since saints row 2

gta iv is lame , ,only hing goin for it is xbl but in 5 yrs that wont matter, cause that wont exist much like the original xbox was cut -as of april 4 10

The lack of reasons you gave us, is well, reason enough for console gaming to survive.

Wait now Console gaming is dying? I thought PC's were dying yesterday. Hmn...

PC's will prolly only go down now, being relegated to RTS's and MMORPG's cuz companies will just keep throwing out cheap multiplats that wont run on most PCs.
It aint worth it i guess for the companies.

No offence but that is one of the stupidist things I have ever heard. Its not like sony and microsoft is gonna join forces with Nintendo and make some super console. Shure a good amount of games is spread across the three systems. But it was like that back in the day between microsofts ultimate console, the origonal xbox, and the second best console in the world, The PS2. Thats just the way it is. Console gaming is here to stay for a good god damn long time.
