From my experience you need at least a 32" TV for console to be really enjoyable, they cost about $400, the cheapest ones. But for PC gaming a 19" $100 monitor is enough.

Another thing to consider are prices of games, here preorders of PC games cost about $40 and console games are about $80 bucks. Also PC has a lot sales, while consoles have none.

Completely depends on how you look at it. But the majority of the time consoles will be alot cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Not true, I have a 40 inch hdtv and a 24 inch dell monitor. I prefer gaming on the dell by far, regardless of platform.

Price is 100% subjective and goes nowhere on either side.. I know several people who've bought multiple controllers, pay online fees, have traded in and rebought consoles (original 360 to ones with HDMI etc etc). Offcourse have friends who have upgraded their PC's costing several hundred of dollars by putting new newer graphics cards etc. Also know both sides who have spent several hundreds of dollars getting Hdtv's or big screen monitors.. I demonstrated how I had my old rig in May 2010 edition System Wars monthly... In the end, people who scream on prices like a badge of honor (console players or Pc players) need to serious rethink what they are argueing.

excuse me

how much is a nintendo wii (170 going to be 150 soon) if it isnt already

360=200 -4 gig ,

ps3-300 or less if used

how much would it take for me to upgrade my pc i already spent 400 on ,huh thats already more then my ps3 360 and wii , and 3ds ds psp no less

ya slap a 200 graphics chip---

slap more ram on --i dont even have a price on that ,

then we have to buy games ---40-60

then we gotta pay for a antivirus

then we gotta pay for internet (ya i know i already am but still i wouldnt need internet for consoles-multiplaye aside)

then you got other upgrades -powerpack ,coolingsystems etc

and the fact you have to upgrade every 6 -mos to a yr to remain on top of the game world

ya thats more expensive then you think

\and the fact windows it selfcost 200

you say console gaming is not cheaper now?

It's like you want to make a point, but you don't want to work for it. You're either stretching the truth or over-exaggerating it, but you probably know that.

It doesn't matter whether you like PC or not, don't lie to yourself.

-you need internet, regardless. the majority of console games were given online because thats what seems to be the console trend nowadays. your games also need to be patched continuously, and half of your game is actually on the marketplace ready to milk you blind (1st day DLC, LOL)

-i went 3 years without upgrading, and it cost me 150 dollars for a HUGE upgrade.

-you're getting nickle and dimed by companies on your awesome little online markets

-4gb xbox 360? 4 GIGABYTE HARD DRIVE? now that your 'convenient' games require installs, 4gb would be dumb. buy an overpriced hard drive, then compare prices. gg

-50 dollar controllers

-planned obsoletion (why doesnt my 360 have an hdmi port? oh yeah. they want me to pay even more money for a newer model. no thanks)

-ever heard of Steam, D2D, or GFWL sales? 90% of my steam library was bought for 20 dollars or under. -even if your pc costs more than your console, the value point is ridiculously higher. i mean, it wins by a landslide and a half.

-as for power supplies (powerpack lol), you dont need to upgrade those unless there is a significant increase in power requirements by your system.

-lol cooling systems?

I used to play four player Splitscreen on a 13" TV now I currently game on a 19" SD TV.

You probably could get that TV for free so console gaming can be a lot cheaper :P

Good way of putting it. I think PC is better and not much more expensive in the long run, depending how you do it. Could be cheaper or much more expensive.

Consoles are cheaper no matter how you look at it. No upgrades. Games become relatively cheap pretty fast. The tv point is total bs--most people already have a tv. Honestly, I just bought a laptop that cost more than my ps3 and games combined. Not only that, but since a lot of games are consolized, a controller is necessary for a pc these days. So, add that to a comfy keyboard and a nice mouse, and............................yeah, pc is more expensive.

pc is more expensive hardware wise and always will be. Pc gaming can so expensive you have to the machine your self. You can save a bit on software witch is really the only price advantage pc has.

also no second hand gaming market can help consoles with price. My friends and i trade games with eatch other and that would not work well for pc . resale on console games and hardware can make up some of the cost.

Really? That's your argument? Sorry, Console gaming is less expensive. Always has been and always will be. This is fact. I mean, really, sales? Gamestop had a huge sale of PS3/360/Wii games not 3 weeks ago. The Power savers sale or whatever, games were selling for dirt cheap.

So if I said I built a pc right after the release of the ps3, upgraded it and it still cost less then the ps3... what would you say? I'm asking since your speaking in absolute (always has been and always will be). Very confused how your speaking in so called "facts" right now. There is soo many variables to just throw out such lavish statement like that...

If you want a PC that can run on high it'll be $600 to $800 I'm guessing (including OS?), console is $300. Leaving monitors aside. HDTV's shouldn't be considered since everyone has one for TV and movies, while a monitor is for PC only.

A REAL gaming PC that is built for games by a PC gamer will always be more expensive than a console. I also find that very hard to believe. Unless youbuilt a terrible gaming PC back then. I'm assuming you mean the PS3's original $600 price tag. If you're talking the $300 price tag then I call BS right off the bat.

Maybe you should first read the thread (i spoke about my rig on the first page), and next should actually read my post when I specially said "right after the release of the ps3". Oh well, some people on SW get so full of zeal that they ignore whats actually being stated. Can I ask what is a "real gaming pc".. That statement makes no sense.

Well, considering most people already have computers, people can just reuse the stuff they already have, most notably the monitor, OS, and tower and just upgrade for there.

Also, I think software costs are a hell of a lot lower my Steam account is worth nearly 900 dollars with 64 games. Actual price of those games is more in the 4-600 range. Comparitvely, I have ten PS3 games, spread out of over 40-60 dollars, taking the average of that, $500 for ten games.

console hardware is cheaper but pc games a much cheaper, really depends on how you look at it, but complaining about price if you play video games is just silly since it is an expensive hobby.

Most people I know buy HDTV's for non gaming uses... but it doesn't matter, bottom line is you're not getting a gaming PC for $300.

how much would it take for me to upgrade my pc i already spent 400 on ,huh thats already more then my ps3 360 and wii , and 3ds ds psp no less

ya slap a 200 graphics chip---

slap more ram on --i dont even have a price on that ,

then we have to buy games ---40-60

then we gotta pay for a antivirus

then we gotta pay for internet (ya i know i already am but still i wouldnt need internet for consoles-multiplaye aside)

then you got other upgrades -powerpack ,coolingsystems etc

and the fact you have to upgrade every 6 -mos to a yr to remain on top of the game world

ya thats more expensive then you think

\and the fact windows it selfcost 200

you say console gaming is not cheaper now?

mariokart64fan
pc gaming is as cheaper or expensive as you like to make it. you don't need internet to play offline pc games besides a couple of drm infected ones. atinvirus can be free. you don't need to upgrade more than once a console gen to have console level graphics and 2006 card still out perform consoles. console games cost around $40 nzd more than pc games.

[QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"][QUOTE="Deathtransit"]If you want a PC that can run on high it'll be $600 to $800 I'm guessing (including OS?), console is $300. Leaving monitors aside. HDTV's shouldn't be considered since everyone has one for TV and movies, while a monitor is for PC only.Deathtransit
Everyone has an HDTV for TV and movies? Wut?

Most people I know buy HDTV's for non gaming uses... but it doesn't matter, bottom line is you're not getting a gaming PC for $300.

Just the chassis and it´s components? You can do it for 300$. It´s not gonna be the best gaming PC out there and it won´t have the best hardware, but still, you can.

I´ve done several builds around that price.

So if I said I built a pc right after the release of the ps3, upgraded it and it still cost less then the ps3... what would you say? I'm asking since your speaking in absolute (always has been and always will be). Very confused how your speaking in so called "facts" right now. There is soo many variables to just throw out such lavish statement like that...

jedikevin2

I assumed you meant the $600 price tag of the original PS3 if you actually read what I typed. Maybe you should take your own advice and, before commenting on my response, read all of it. And No, I didn't read your original post or whatever earlier on in the thread because I have better things to do than read pages and pages of responses just so I'm "caught up" with your little antics. But, hey, whatever you want to think is fine.

Also PC has a lot sales, while consoles have none.

i5750at4Ghz
Completely depends on how you look at it. But the majority of the time consoles will be alot cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Initially, but the difference in game prices more than makes up for it. Also, if you are on GS, you probably have both a computer and a console, and the price for having both of those well exceeds the cost of a decent gaming rig ~$500-600 including OS. Only very misinformed GS posters actually believe that console gaming will save them money considering that they dish out a lot of extra money on overpriced computers from Best Buy and other such retailers.

Well, that may be true for some but not for me. I would need to build from the ground up and I would need a nice monitor, mine isn't even flat screen. Start up costs are definitely a good deal higher. And you can find cheap games either way.

Seems someone is upset that speaking in "absolute" is just a horrible approach to have expecially with something like this.. Price is jsut very subjective as some members have stated. If you want to add into the thread and attempt to debunk what people are saying then don't you think you should read what everyone is saying? Not like this is a 9 page of Sw lol... Oh well, some people just like to trash talk without actually debating a issue. In the end, it has been possible to have pc's right in line with consoles since release while still offering a great game experience with a "real gaming pc".

@Arach: Well, I guess it depends on how you approach it, but personally I would want to run those on high, as well as BF3 when it comes. And I would need a new OS and a monitor. It wouldn't be that cheap for me.

herp derp u need a house to put your pc in and run the internet through.. thats at last 200k+ derp... All i will say is that PC has a bulkier upfront cost which is a turn off for me but in the long run it might be cheaper (guess it really depends how often u upgrade and/or how many games u get) consoles are cheaper upfront.

Not really, i have consoles because i like easy going gaming, i have my PC to do some more serious gaming and my PC has a IPS monitor and cost quite a bit, my PC cost quite a bit and to be honest i don't care, my PS3 cost £250 and i got 2 free games with it but i already owned a TV so does this mean console gaming is cheaper? because it is?

I'm enjoying my consoles on a 26" which is a few years old.... A lot of games on shopto are less than retail (I picked up Mortal Kombat for £29.99!) and consoles do have sales.

pc sales are insane, you end up saving more with a better system (best gfx, best online, most aaa/aa, aaae/aae, mods, etc)
