I have not gamed on a console in 10 years (other then retro consoles), and I've noticed over the years that they have been trying to be more and more like computers. Nowadays, as soon as you buy a new platform, you have to configure tons of settings, and frequently download sometimes massive updates, and have to create user accounts to use certain features. Even handheld systems are like this, like the Vita. Even Nintendo can't escape this trend, you have to download a, what? 10GB or something update on first start up? and you may end up needing an external HDD for the Wii U. I miss the days when you buy a new system, you just pop in a game, and instantly play it, but thats a thing of the past. Makes me feel nostalgic, not to mention old lol This kind of stuff is normal for computers, but less painful. But for consoles, I think it's just a hassle personally. Sounds weird, I know.

As technology evolves, more gimmicks are being introduced. It's a real shame.

It's true that consoles are just wannabe PC nowadays. Some people just won't admit it.

Yep, controllers where pre-installed in the system with no way to get them out, and with a couple systems, the console was the controller and you had to have your friend grab the other side.

I agree that overall there is much more to console gaming then even last gen and more so then gens before that. It does not seem hard at all to us but to people that are not gamers or people that are new to gaming I can see them feeling a tad overwhelmed.

If we let people like you be in charge we would still be living in caves huddled round a fire, as tech evolves so do the uses for the technology look at smartphones they have become a key part of many people including myselfs life because they offer access to services.

As consoles evolve we will see them integrate more technology into 1 single box, the way i see it is i've basically consolidated my gaming, tv (through Sky) and movie needs into 1 single box now.

Makes me happy that they try to integrate more into the consoles, although people like you will love to live in the stone age.

Top of my head I really hate downloading updates when you just want to play for a few mins.

The install process is just too long.

The new PStore is just slow and awful.

Boot up process is to long

Playstation updates are a hassle for me, to the point where I don't hook up my PS3 to the internet anymore.

Consoles used to be plug & play and now its plug & update the system & update the game & then play.

how is it messing with your head.

It makes my life easier consolidating everything into 1 device, i mean my phone's got an 8mp camera,mp3,spotify,facebook and does phone calls in 1 handheld device saves me carrying the iPod around now.

If you want it to be diffcult and needlessly lug around multiple devices then be my guest, i'll have more pocket space :P

Yeah agreed. I don't mind X360 so much cos a 30 second auto update is the most it's ever done, which is fine. But PS3 with it's installs and updates and PSN crap where it's asking me to sign in and log out and change my settings and comfirm stuff and blah blah blah. That WiiU stuff with the updates and slow menus and all sounds pretty bad too.

Hassle!?!? It's much easier for a console then a PC. We don't have to register our software and hope a server is up to confirm you actually bought the game. LOL!! It took me over an hour to get Planetside 2 up and running do to ALL the updates and then having to RELOAD the whole game because it went from Beta to Retail. Diablo 3 took almost as long as well. Didn't you say you haven't gamed on a console in 10 years? So how the hell would you even know what consoles are like now. Stop trolling this nonsense.

Thats another thing, I remember back in the day when consolers mocked PC gamers about having to download updates, and patches, and whatnot for there broken games, and that consoles games were nearly bug free. Now it's the exact same thing on consoles.

Very rarely (in fact I've never seen it), has a game needed an update to actually play. That's PC that has that happen primarily. 99% of the time it's minor tweaks. Again, it's very simple. You can still plug and play. And I don't know how to bash consoles for having online when PC has it as well and it's 10x more complicated with all the different DLing services needed to play the games (and they have to be running in the background).

I'm not bashing consoles for having online, I'm saying if they have to have online capabilities, atleast to a better job. IMO PC is much easier, and not to mention much cheaper since the PC is a completely open platform, and steams amazing deals for games are plentiful. Sony, Nintendo and MS charge whatever they want for everything, and it's damn expensive. I've seen the prices.

I highly doubt that people are put off by the updates. I would much rather have updates that fix problems than not. There are also many benefits to the "complexity" of modern console gaming. The PSN, Arcade, and Nintedo store have produced some great games.

I really don't think you've seen the prices. It's 200 for an Xbox, 150 for a Wii. You will need to pay 3 to 4 times as much to get a decent gaming PC. And if you want the uber modded Crysis on ultra high experience it's gonna be over 1000.

I really don't think you've seen the prices. It's 200 for an Xbox, 150 for a Wii. You will need to pay 3 to 4 times as much to get a decent gaming PC. And if you want the uber modded Crysis on ultra high experience it's gonna be over 1000.

I'm talking about games, the prices for games are outrageous, and the fact that you need to pay for Xbox live just to use the 360 online. And if you really think about it, the consoles (besides the WiiU right now) are over priced considering how old they are. Even a PC thats equally powerful to a 360 would be cheaper then a 360 itself.

You're absolutely right AlexKid. Less and less do I find a justification for buying a modern console. This focus on online features, hideous non-gaming features, having to create another f*cking Live account because you forgot your password, then downloading a software update, having to scroll through all the f*cking ads after paying 50 dollars just to f*cking play online. Oh and the games are oriented around online play, LAN/splitscreen are a thing of the past. Actually I don't think there is any justification for buying a console.

A $300 computer can play Crysis on high/ultra high.

[QUOTE="AlexKidd5000"]I have not gamed on a console in 10 years (other then retro consoles), and I've noticed over the years that they have been trying to be more and more like computers.

Hey man, I totally hear you.

As technology evolves, more gimmicks are being introduced. It's a real shame.

It's true that consoles are just wannabe PC nowadays. Some people just won't admit it.

GamerwillzPS

Consoles are PC's, they just don't have a general purpose desktop like Windoze, and everything is forced to go through M$ certifiaction.
