Console noise - PS3 vs 360 (no fanboys please)

I am looking at buying a PS3 but am trying to decide whether to get the slim or normal one. The only advantage to the slim imo is the quieter fan. So to get an idea of how loud the orginal one is (since i prefer that one better) I was wondering if anyone could compare it to the 360 fan? I mean, does it get annoying when watching blu-ray?

To be honest the 360 does make fan noise, but not that much, and completely negligible compared to the TV when you're playing. But at complete muted level, the PS3 is quieter.

So neither consoles make that much noise, you won't hear it when you're using it.

I have heard the 360 fan, it can be loud at times, but it varies on runtime. I own a PS3 and I forget to turn it off at times because I cant hear it.

The PS3 Fatty is very, very silent. It's hardly noticeable. The 360 is noticeably louder. Apparently the slim is dead silent

The 360 can be a bit noisy when it's playing a game. To combat the noise I typically install the game I am playing to my hard drive. Since I have a 120GB HD I have the luxury of having a few of my most played games installed at all times.

360 = Jet take off

ps3 = silence in comparison

360 is a 747+the space shuttle lifting off. Its really loud, and as soon as i turn off my 360 its very noticeable at just how loud it really is. PS3 is quiet.

Get a PS3 Slim

When you turn the 360 on, you can hear your windows viberating. It feels like having an airplane soar over your house, except that the source of the sound is from within the room.

I don't hear anything out of my ps3... I only hear my 360's disc drive.

Fans can get louder w/ age, and it seems like it's mostly luck of the draw I guess.

The 360 is more louder than the PS3. The 360 sounds like a bomb is ready to explode.

I have the original 60 gig so things may have changed, but mine is LOUD when it gets hot, and it gets hot fast when I play a game, and the fan is even worse during blu-ray movies.

Just so you know though, its not unbareable. I still watch blu-ray movies over dvd's any day, and after I get into the game or movie I don't notice the noise.

Other then the 'beep' when I turn it on/off and eject, put in discs, does the ps3 even make noise?

I've been playing Resistance for hours, and at no point did I notice the fan. It's a nice change from the 360's very noticeable fan noise.

I recommend not playing your games on mute.

say its unscientific all you want, but you don't have any tests of others doing the same thing, all you have is people saying well my ears tell me one is louder then the other which is far from scientific.

I don't know if it's because my 360 is one of the earlier models but it is LOUD.

That's why I prefer my PS3. Quiet as can be in comparison.

my 360 fan on my launch day 360 is very loud, like drown out the movie your watching loud, my ps3 is barely audible. Maybe the newer 360's don't have a hair dryer fan I don't know

The PS3's fan can get loud occasionally (or at least what I consider to be loud), but most of the time it's pretty quiet.

I found my 360 to be way noisier than my ps3 even though that the difference has decreased significantly since my console got changed cause of RRoD. The ps3 does get noisy some times, but it seems to only happen when playing the console without the A/C on..

Anyway, to the TC, you do know that you can make all the noise go away by installing your game onto your 360 Hard Drive, right?

So long as you dont have a PS3 from the first year, you should be ok with the noise of the fan.

Dude the PS3 can be loud if you play like I do.. but its no louder than my PC which has a nice coolant system going on.

On my 360 I don't hear the fan usually. Some games the disc drive goes ballistic and sounds like a chainsaw trying to go through concrete. I can't comment on the PS3, but the Wii is silent for whatever that's worth.

I own a 60gig Fat PS3 which is completly silent, and a 360 arcade which sounds like a jet engine. Honest to God it took getting used to, when I first got it I thought there was something wrong with it lol.

PS3 is whisper quiet aside from the beeps the console itself makes. 360 will disturb the peace late at night with the drive & fan blurring away. Shouldn't be a problem if you don't play late at night. Or early in the am. Or maybe at all. Kidding 8)

The fan noise from the X360 is louder than the PS3, but the DVD drive is the loudest part of the X360. The PS3 makes a lot less noise and it does'nt have the same RROD and heat issues either.
