Many PC gamers don't understand the difference between HD resolution and standard resolution. True that PC's can display a higher vertical resolution than 1080 but the signal is not in HD (on a standard LCD screen)! That means at the current moment consoles can display HD resolutions and PCs cannot. EA has decided to release the first PC game that could be played on an HDTV in a 720p or an 1080i / 1080p resolution: Crysis. Still you need an HDTV for the game to be in HD. So please stop claiming that PCs have had 1080 HD resolution since 1998 because it's not true at all... maybe for standard resolution but not HD.iMacBot
Wow that just made my day, is this a joke or does this guy seriuosly believe that a pc cant do HD
So I guess this new HD-DVD technology and Blu-Ray is all bullcrap okay I accept.iMacBot
HD-DVD and Blu_ray are simply larger storage mediums to hold the much larger data needed to stream an HD signal. Computers have these things called hard drives that could do that a long time ago. Seriously, go read up on this stuff on wiki before you open your mouth.
So I guess this new HD-DVD technology and Blu-Ray is all bullcrap okay I accept.iMacBoti accept that your thread is crap.but those Technology's are not crap:).Another thing is the file compression of a dvd vs blu-ray disc.Blu-ray dosen't require file compression or not much if any at all.Dvd they have to be compressed alot just to get alot of the stuff on the cd.*correct me if im wrong*
a 720p TV runs on the resolution of 1280 by 720....my monitor has a resolution of 1680 by 1050....notice how that is higher.cobrax75
That's the point of my topic: the 720 is HD, the 1050 is not... Microsoft and Toshiba explained everything when they released their HD-DVD technology, please you guys... anyways good night.

Sigh.
Once again,
YOU

HD-DVD technology is simply more space on a disc. Its a storage medium, thats all.
Movies that are high resolution require much more space than those on a normal dvd.

all "HD" is...is a lot more pixels then before.....the more pixels...the more "HD" it is....
its really not complicated.....even a caveman could understand it.
Monitors have different protocols for resolutions then TV's do....which is why 1280 by 720 monitors dont exist.

720p = 1280x720
1680x1050 > 1280x720

Im just saying that Sony is the main culprit in pushing this "TrueHD" BS to the masses.
You have to admit they are doing quite well too.Unforgiven2870
Yeah they are, and in the end, its driving the price of HD equipment down because of their popularity, so indirectly, I'm thankful to them. (Did I just say that?)

i meant link sorrry, because I think he misread what they said becease them saying pc isint HD doesnt make sense to me
also I am sorry I wasnt directing my question at you but instead the TC, again I apologize
HD is determined solely by resolution. It doesn't matter if that resolution is on a CRT monitor, LCD TV, LCD Monitor, Plasma TV, projector, whatever, its still HD. It doesn't even have to be 16:9 to be HD, that just happens to be the aspect ratio that the three main standards (1080i, 1080p, 720p) use. There are plenty of other HD resolutions that aren't commonly used on TV's. 1680x1050 for example, is an HD resolution with a 16x10 aspect ratio (I actually like 16x10 a lot more than 16x9).
