Like I thought before, it looks like a lot of consumers are not impressed with next gen so far. I don't blame them.

It doesn't matter what it is. The Wii came after the Gamecube so it is considered next gen.

Kind of suspicious how they rounded the 360 to exactly 1,000,000 when no other console is rounded.

EDIT: That is BS on 360 numbers just went back and found out 360 sold 1.2 million US by the end of March 2006 NPD numbers.

"Sales of Microsoft's Xbox 360 videogame console surpassed 1.2 million in the U.S. during March, as almost 192,000 units ... "

Not to mention the first three months of 360 were not resupplied due to not having their second manufacturing site and launching worldwide.

That doesn't even make sense. Adding better graphics means better hardware which is what all next gen consoles have been. Not outdated hardware w/ an improved controller and calling it "new gen".

This pretty much proves that early sales don't really tell us who the winner will be in the end.

I wonder then why there are terms such as next gen graphics and sounds.

Anyways, next gen is floppin bad. MS and Sony need to drop the price a bit to compete against their own old systems.

Technically, I think all gens had vastly improved graphics over the ones before, so he's kinda right.
Some of the gens were even called 32/64 bit era, 8 bit era etc. instead of 4th gen or 5th gen, to symbolize the raise in graphic power.

EDIT: Removed the quotes to not get modded, I don't have the energy to quote the exact number allowed. You probably know who this post is for.

Yes it was assumed that consoles would improve from one gen to the next, because that has historicaly been the case.  People assumed the next gen would have better graphics and sound, But that's not what defines a gen. A generation is just the passing of one console to the next in it's line.

You see that I don't understand. Like consoles are more next gen depending on how powerful they are? I always here that crap, that it's not next gen because it's not as powerful. Even though the Wii is more powerful than last gen consoles. But I guess you buy games that you feel is the most 'next-gen' I buy consoles that I think is the most fun.

I really do love it.

Xbox and Dreamcast probably are the systems with the best first year ever. People forget the PS2 was 21months old when the Xbox came out. So FFX, GTA3, GT3, etc...Were all 2nd to 3rd year games. Hence why Xbox's sales were so remarkable. Remember in it's first year it had Halo, Oddworld world, DOA3, Rallisport, SC, SH2, MGS2Sub, PGR, NFL Fever, and many more. Xbox probably also had the best launch ever for a consule. I mean they really had tons of great quality games.

And it is funny...Even though 360 has a bit less systems sold than PS3...The software sales are nearly double. Tells you about the better system and explains why...Developers are moving towards 360 this gen. If PS3 sells 20million units and 360 10million units. Yet every 360 owner has 5games compared to PS3's two...Who wins then^^

Maybe because The Wii and PS3 have just passed there 4th month... or the end of there first quarter of sales...?

I think there was earlyer articles comparing the first and second and third month marks.

Where's the First 3 months?

The First 2 months?

The First Month?

Why the random 4 months?

I smell conspiracy...

Maybe because The Wii and PS3 have just passed there 4th month... or the end of there first quarter of sales...?

That's the only thing I could Figure, and yet, I would like to see one of these for a Quarter of a year, or three month period.

Overall, the conspiracy part of my post was to get reply's, so thanks for that.

Anyway, as already being said, NPD counts by months, so November went in as a full month.....

Acenso

Early PS3 = BC with PS2.

Early 360 No BC. Updates later, for 20% BC.

360 = more games sold because of this as well.

I think there are articles talking about the first months also... I don't know other break downs would be nice.

you must have not looked at the 360 and wii sells.

I did, and the Wii is next gen?

Welcome to 5 months ago.

I was there, they refurbished the Cube and added a remote. That's not next gen.

I was there too for the 360 and PS3, they refurbrished the xbox and ps2 and added better graphics. That's not next gen.

That doesn't even make sense. Adding better graphics means better hardware which is what all next gen consoles have been. Not outdated hardware w/ an improved controller and calling it "new gen".

... It's people like you that stagnate the industry. You need to be more tolerant of change. You're stuck in your habits.

Stagnate is releasing the same hardware and putting a bigger pricetag on it. It only costs $150 to produce the wii and when 360 came out it was losing a $100 on the premiums at $399, same with the PS3. Funny how nintendo is milking you sheep for inferior hardware.

It's not milking if you choose to buy it... milking is when you have to buy something to play a game, or get the most out of a game.

Hm, does anyone remember all those threads/posts about history repeating itself, a few months ago in SW? I remember two reasons why people said the PS3 will fail: 1. The console with the best hardware always lost (nevermind the fact that people now say the 360's is stronger). 2. Every brand who has ruled the market for 2 generation lost the 3rd (Nintendo as a prime example). Well, here's one to support Sony: All of Sony's consoles had the worst first-months sales. That includes the PS3 (as a person here stated the 360 had better sales). So if history repeats itself, and Sony continues with the tradition of selling horribly at first, PS3 might be the winner once again.

Sales data sadly isn't tracked on a weekly basis in the US.

It said how the system did in four months. I guarantee all the PS3, Wii systems were counted in the Kotku article. They rounded the 360 to a perfect 1,000,000. This article was just released so I am sure the had access to Wii/PS3 March US NPD numbers also.

Although this has been known by some of us, it's nice to see more notice.

But PS3 is fastest selling console in history :cry:goblaa

Don't think launching in 2 while the competitors launched in all three helped Sony

If he would of read the article it said sold at the SOLD AT THE END OF MARCH. The news article posted on April 19th that has nothing to do with anything.

"Sales of Microsoft's Xbox 360 videogame console surpassed 1.2 million in the U.S. during March, as almost 192,000 units ... "
