So i made a little math :
PS3-599$ ( or you might get the cheaper one with 100$ less)
Xbox360 -399$
Wii-250$
Total =around 1250 $

A new PC costs at least that much (even more if it has Vista and a monitor included) and arguably only 1 of those consoles could be better than a PC but all 3 of them blows it away.
For that money you get: Linux ( on PS3)
Web Browser on the Wii
Photo reader - on the wii
Unique controller on the wii
A wide selection of games on all of them especially older ones ( PS3 has ps2 games)
Bluray player- PS3
DVD player - 360
Media extender functionality- 360
A lot of addons you can add ( eyetoy , guitar hero , DDR pads)
Exclusives
Now it seems consoles might get mods too (UT3)
BEtter online service (xbox live)
and the best ....saves you a ton of money so you can get games or a DS which also gives you portability and there isn't an issue like blocked upgrading* or tech problems like freezing or crashing.

*PCI express came along and rendered my AGP videocard useless then DDR2 memory came along and I couldn't upgrade my computer so I would've had to buy a new one , but i didn't. All this after spending over 1200$ on it.

techinically a 360 can't play crysis on DX10, almost every pc games looks alot better than god of war (maybe you were thinking of gears of war?), and pc has it's own group of exclusives.

can your console help you create game mods, edit music, download porn????

You can buy a gaming PC with Vista for $600 currently.  Granted, it won't be as good of a machine as the $1250 computer, but it will still be able to run Crysis and other new games nicely.

I'm not a troll. You ar ea fanboy deal with it and I'm only stating facts.

Facts? You don't need a $1250 PC to run Crysis maxxed. If you buy a $1k, even less, PC when Crysis comes out, it will run it maxxed. Also, when you go buy a console, you don't just go out and buy the console itself. You have to buy accessories for it that are basically necessary if you want a good console experiance. I find it funny that you include the price of a monitor but no the price of an HDTV. You have a very weak arguement.

Either is my PC......

Also, the most people don't have an HDTV right now. They just have an SDTV. People have had PC's and monitors for A LOT longer.

turgore

I'm sick of this thread, so I'm going to end it.
PS3-$499
Xbox 360-$399
Wii-$249
Total= $1150 + tax = around $1200(min)
If you really want to be able to do everything a computer can, however, you'll need to either have a modern PC or buy a new one for $300 mminimum.

My PC from last year=$1000
Although my PC can run new games, some of the technology is slightly outdated, you should be able to get a similar machine for around $800 with Vista, and a $1000-1100 PC today could come with an 8800.

I didn't include a monitor or HDTV in either of these comparisons, because we'll just assume that you already have a regular TV.  Now, I can choose to hook up my computer to the TV if I want, as I have an HDMI output and cable that change my signal to composite or component, and yes, these cables all came included with my video card.  However, I will likely buy a $100-250 monitor for my PC, while in order to get the most out of my consoles, I'd need to buy and HDTV, adding at least another $2000, and HDTV cables for all my consoles, adding a lot more to the price (too lazy to even bother calculating the price right now).

Consoles have nowhere near as many games as PC.  Even the famed PS3 with it's backwars compatibility comes nowhere near matching my PC, which, if I paticularly want to, I could buy a game online from 1992 and install it.  Say I want to play the original half-life, I can find it and play it if I want to, even though the game is almost 10 years old.

Granted, consoles have exclusives, but so does the PC, and although some games were later ported to consoles, the ports were nowhere near the quality of the originals.  Just look at games like F.E.A.R. and Half-Life 2, they were incredible on PC, but average at best on consoles.  And there's a huge amount of RTS and TBS games that never bothered to get ported to consoles.

Xbox Live can really not be considered better online than PC, and if you really want to include it, you can't possibly forget subscription costs.  You're gonna have to pay just to be able to even play online.  Even after subscription, there's a ton more people gaming on PCs worldwide than on Xbox 360.

Buying all three consoles does not save you enough money to buy a DS, although buying a PC will. The only way you can afford to buy a DS is if you don't buy one of the three consoles, and buying an HDTV really dosen't help the pocketbook.

If you paticularly want a Wii, buying a PC is about as expensive or cheaper than buying a 360 and PS3, you should be able to afford it.  And you can keep your eyetoy, thank you very much.

So we assume our customer has a TV.  Many high-end video cards come with cables to hook it up to a standard TV, and if not, it's $20 more.  So you actually don't need a monitor.

No I'm waiting for the 8600 cards to be released because spending $300 on a graphics card is just plain stupid.

I'll agree GeOW is the best looking game out right now period, but that doesn't mean that pc won't/can't do something that'll look better.  I'm not gonna say crysis will look better cause I'm not a n00b that goes by screenshots, and prerelease press junk.

I'm not the type of hermit that's going to say PC is ungodly and cosole newbs aren't gamers, cause well I'm also a console gamer myself.  PC as gaming machines are about on par w/ consoles if you know what you're doing (I always say "PC gaming is for PC people").  When you get down to it the games, the graphics, the fun pretty much equal out.  The only difference is that PC gaming is slightly more expensive anyway you look at it, but that's nullified since many of us would like a decent PC for other stuff (porn, video/audio editing, word docs).

WTF a new graphics card is 500$ , add vista for 200$, A good CPU is around 140$ and some RAM and add some ram it's allready 1000$. Now add the motherboard , manufacturing cost , keyboard mouse , Hard Drive and monitor and it passes 1250$ . Not to mention you have to upgrade in 1 year and invest more money. Oh wait this is System Wars...facts don't matter , only opinions do and the rich people who buy expensive PCs for nothing have the most say in it.

Everybody saying consoles are greater than PCs is wrong.

Everybody saying PCs are greater than consoles are right, but for the wrong reason.

The reason PCs are greater than consoles is because YOU CAN DO MORE THAN JUST PLAY GAMES ON THEM!!!

Anybody who gets a PC only to play games on it is wasting it's potential. Not saying anything against using a PC for gaming. Just that you should justify it by taking advantage of at least half of it's multiapplication functionality. Write a book on it, create a beautiful painting with it, do your taxes on it, create a prize winning documentary movie with it, design a spiffy new website.... endless possibilities and not just games.

Hmmm:
Gaming PC: €700
20 games: €600 = €1300

Xbox360: €400
20 games: €1000
Non gaming PC: €300 = €1700

Prices from newegg.com:
8800GTS $300  - If you don't need DX10, you can get cards for a lot less
Vista Home Basic OEM $94.99
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0 GHz $119.00  - If you paticularly need ot save money, get a single core A64 running at 2.2 GHz for $50
2 GB DDR2 800 SDRAM $210.99
So far, it's about $725
Our motherboard should'nt be more than $150, then add K/M for $15, and a 250 GB (huge) Barricuda hard drive for $80, and a $70 case.
We get a system for around $1040.  Now, we'll assume for some reason (don't know why) that you don't have a monitor/HDTV that you can't use, and we'll buy the very nice, 20.1" LCD 1680x1050 monitor since it currently comes with a rebate, putting it's cost at $200, with free shipping.  So, even after all that, we're still just under turgore's estimate.  But we can do better.

We don't feel like going for DirectX 10, so lets go down to a $200 DX9 card, still very nice, just not DX10.  There isn't a huge difference between Athlon 64s and X2s when it comes to gaming, so let's go with a standard 2.2 GHz Athlon 64.  The chip also comes with a deal for a motherboard, so our mobo's only $80.  We could go with only 1 GB of RAM, so you can shave off another $100.  If you're really desperate, go with a 80 GB hard drive for $40.

Our downsized PC costs $660 without a monitor.  If you don't have a monitor from a previous PC and don't want to hook up your PC to a TV, a monitor will cos under $80.

Consoles are only better than PCs if your parents are paying for your gaming.

Try coming up with an argument for the people who do not see price as an issue.

Stupid argument. If you buy alot of games for your consoles you will enventually surpass the price of PC gaming.

As an example if you buy 1 game per month you will be spending about 250-300$ CND(or 1200$ per 4 years) more per year just on games for consoles. This money alone is good enough to keep your computer up to date.

[QUOTE="turgore"]

I wasn't talking about the 360 if it can play crysis in DX10 I was talking about your PC . Oh damn you are right I meant Gears but for some reason i typed God. Anyway yeah i agree the PC is best for programs and internet and stuff nad is the best invention since ...fire ????...but yeah for gaming it's not all that . Unless you like RTSs and really can't stand controllers and aren't dirt poor PC gaming is for you .
jrhawk42

Very intelligent, unbiased post.  I like it.  I like it alot!

Oh wait this is System Wars...facts don't matter , only opinions do and the rich people who buy expensive PCs for nothing have the most say in it.turgore

A new graphics card is $500? Since when is a $500 necessary to run games maxxed? This is why I can't stand console fanboys. They act like the know everything about PC games and hardware, yet they know nothing. My 7800GT runs everygame maxxed. It's $150 or less now. It's called smart shopping. Buying the G80 series right now is kind of pointless unless you have money to waste when a 7900GT runs all games maxxed. Just because new hardware comes out, does not mean you have to buy and it does not mean that you need it to play new games maxxed. I recently built a PC that costs $700 w/o the videocard (using my 7800GT OC'ed still). It has 2GB of RAM and a E6400 that's OC'ed to 2.8ghz. It beats out the $1000 FX-62. Vista? Why would you need Vista right now when XP is perfectly fine? Anyways, Vista is only $100 if you buy OEM. Most people already have a keyboard, mouse, and a monitor capable of high resolutions. If you don't, please, stop living like your in 1985. I find it funny that you list all that stuff, yet you don't list an HDTV for consoles..... funny.... Who says you have to upgrade your PC every year? That is not the case AT ALL. Only hardware junkies do that. It is not necessary to do that in order to run games on high settings. Please, stop. You have a weak and uninformed arguement. You mention nothing of the games. Which PC gets the most AAA/AA's every gen. Last gen PC' has twice as many AAA/AA's as PS2, and twice as many AAA/AA's as GC and Xbox combined, and that's since Q3 2001. When you guys get SupCom, CoH, and M2TW, please, let me know. When you guys get the depth in games like PC games have, let me know. When you guys get games that last as long as PC games do and have longetivity, let me know. When you guys get mods that are anywhere near as good as mods for PC's, let me know. When you get games that are as customizable as PC games, let me know. Until the, stop.

[QUOTE="AdobeArtist"]Everybody saying consoles are greater than PCs is wrong.

As i said in a previous post PCs are the best inventions ever and you are right it can do a lot more but a 500$ PC can do just as much as a 10,000$ unless it's not for gaming or graphics design.

Add that $500 PC to your console prices please. What are you posting from right now?

Since I started playing PC games, I haven't played consoles. That was three years ago. Consoles are far inferior to PC gaming.

So i made a little math :
PS3-599$ ( or you might get the cheaper one with 100$ less)
Xbox360 -399$
Wii-250$
Total =around 1250 $

All this after spending over 1200$ on it.

http://slickdeals.net/?permadeal=8963#direct_deal_8963 there's a good pc for 399. add 1 more gig of ram and a $200 buck video card that's already more power full than what's in the 360/ps3 and you have yourself a great gaming system.

PC's had twice as many AAA/AA games as PS2 since Q3 2001, and twice as many as GC and Xbox combined. PC also almost always has the most AAA/AA's every year. But yep, you are right, PC's have no good games....
