Before you bash me. Read what I have got to say.

First of all, it seems like todays consoles are more powerful than the consoles of last generation for their time. I think this is due to the fact that today graphics are considered just as important as gameplay, while that was not true for the past. I do know that Crysis is still the best looking game around. But I do think Killzone 2 and Gears of war 2 are examples of PC quality graphics, yes you heard me right. PC quality. Hermits, you cannot deny the fact that if Killzone 2 was released on the PC tomorrow, it would look way above average for a PC game! Also, lets not forget Far Cry 2, which looks the same on all three platforms (PC, Xbox 360 and PS3) and still manages to look mighty impressive, not Crysis quality but still above average!

Now, just incase you were living under a rock this past year. Here are videos of Killzone 2 and Gears of war 2. Before you judge, watch them and then comment.

Killzone 2: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/39764.html

GeOW 2: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36240.html

Killzone 2 and GeOW 2 look even better when you actually play them. I downloaded the KZ2 trailer on my PS3 and it looks way better than it does on GameTrailers.

Now for those Hermits who question my topic by claiming that their GPU's are superior to the Xbox 360 and PS3's GPU's I tell you that may be true, however consoles are much easier to optimise for, PC games have to be optimised for many many GPU's and so devs dont have enough time to optimise them thoroughly for specific PC GPU's. I did not say that Killzone 2 and GeOW 2 look better than Crysis. But they do look good, even compared to PC games.

If consoles can't catch up to the best the PC has to offer, then they haven't "caught up," simple as that.

The gap will get even bigger once Intel reunveils Project Offset for Larrabee.

Not really.

Crysis doesn't just carry fancy visuals, but also huge levels as well as fully destructable enviornments. It renders all of that at once,

Gears 2 and KZ2 don't carry levels as big as Crysis, nor do they carry the same amount of detail.

Why's that exactly? Those 2 games do in fact have more detail than both KZ2 and Gears 2.

Fine if you wanna talk shooters, Far Cry 2 then. The console versions will be what the PC version would be on medium quality.

Consoles caught up to the PC in 2006. Ever since then the gap has been widening. In another year or so integrated graphics on PC will probably equal the PS3/360. It's true that a PC that produces console level graphics would cost $500, so the 360 and PS3 are still a good value.

umm...how about virtually EVERY multi-platform game that comes out for both PC and consoles

Assassins creed, UT3, Gears, Far Cry 2,and the list goes on and on and on.

Compare the RTS games with the console RTS games if you want and you'll find the same thing.

Fact is, consoles are behind in every single technical aspect and it's really not even close. You can spout out all the lies and fallacies you want, but it won't make them true.

actually if I think about it I think consles are much more far behind compared to PC.

Crysis is the best example but consle fanboys try to make up rules and say that dosen't count.:\

company of heros which game out I think 2-3 years ago is still the best looking RTS game out their(IMO) and consles have yet to come near that kinda detail and in terms of "stuff going on in the game" in games.

Far cry 2 is going to be played on MED. graphics not high or very high. which in short terms is a BIG diffrence.

The only reason consoles have seemingly "caught up to the PC" is because this gen is the gen of the multiplat. Console limitations are holding back the PC this gen. Those same multiplats usually run at 720p or even lower on consoles and most run at 30fps, whilst those same games are running on much higher resolutions, with more fps on even mid range PC's. If most developers werent making games with consoles in mind then the PC would have left the consoles in the dust a long time ago this gen. If my old ass single core Athlon XP 64, 1GB Ram, 8800GTS 320mb handles all multiplats better then the 360 or PS3, then imagine what could be done with new PC hardware if developers like Epic & ID were developing soley for the PC again.

think of it this way, if killzone 2 and gears came out for pc and you were not allowed to turn the resolution up past 720p every single pc user would say the graphics suck compared to other pc games. and it's only true. that's why i cant stand playing gta4 and cod4 on my ps3 because the resolution is set so low it's like im playing on laptop pc.

in some ways ure right TC...

but thats more a reflection of business trends than any technical limitation. most PC games look like consoles games because they are console games on a technical level. the only difference is that they run at higher resolutions on the PC and can have more AA and AF due to the PCs extra horsepower.

consoles havent caught up. PCs are underutilised. crysis only causes trouble at the high end if ure playing at stupidly high resolutions with max settings and max AA and AF. my 18 month old PC in my sig can max out anything i throw at it at 1280X1024 (thats higher than 720P remember) with little AA and AF. if a game was made for todays high end PCs, it would make KZ2, crysis, FC2 and GEOW2 look like ass (on a technical level at least). the amount horse power in the top end PCs today dwarfs any console (and dwarfs my PC...poor fluffy :( ). unfortunately that market is too small to make games for. the only 2 games i see on the horizon that might cause probs for my PC are far cry 2 (which will have extra detail over the console versions according to the devs + some previews) and empire total war. thats it. gears 2, if/when it arrives on PC, wont cause any problems for fluffy (UT3 ran smooth as butter at max settings and thats a very high octane game). i cant comment on KZ2 as that uses a customised engine and itll never see the light of day on PC.

which brings up an interesting question....whos going to persuade ppl to upgrade? im surprised my rig has lasted as log as it has. although there is vastly superior hardware out there...i feel no need to upgrade since my current rig is doing its job very nicely. im hardly going to upgrade just for a bit of extra AA and AF and i dont have a monitor with a very high res.

on a side note...wouldnt it be great if a big developer/publisher just made a "screw it" game. basically invest so much money into it to show off what we can expect in the coming years in games and technology....a concept game so to speak. get the best ppl on the job. they wouldnt make it for profit..theyd make it bacause they can. just once every gen or so obhiously.

Give me a PC game which looks better apart from Crysis.

Play Gears of War on the PC, you will notice better textures, smoother edges, brighter colors then go play Oblivion on the PC and you will notice the same thing. When you are done with that, go play Medieval 2 total war on high settings and then never go back to console gaming.

I agree about the fact that there isn't a big enough market to make it worthwhile to show what a high-end PC could really do. Crysis was supposed to be like that, and I guess it was. I remember those first vids/shots they were showing. That level of detail would destroy even the best setup as things currently stand.

you PC gamers exxagerate to the 10th degree! jesus. Look, I have a great gaming PC. dual 8800GTS 640, intel quad core 3.2, and 2 gig ram. Now, my PC isn't "godly" but it sure can run Crysis nice and smooth, and trust me, PC games aren't THAT far ahead like you people claim to be. Oh, don't worry, PC games have much more antilising, smoother edges, and more of a better overall look, but that "overall" look isn't "HUGE" You guys make it seem as if Consoles graphics look like Nintendo DS, and PC graphics are crysis. Not that big. I have assassins creed on PC, Gears, Spore, Crysis, boshock, etc. Those games, especially the multiplatform games, don't have a "noticble" difference unless you look closely. You can't deny the fact that Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gears of war 2, Gran Turismo 5, and more can't compete with PC games, EXCLUDING crysis. Don't be mad because console gamers only have to spend as little as $200 for a next gen system that can COMPETE with a $1,000+ pc game system. Case closed.

No, not really. Far Cry came out in 2004 and the first "next-gen" console game to beat those graphics was Gears of War which came out in 2006. Prey, Fear, Condemned, ect, they looked good but not on the extent of Far Cry.

The day when consoles pass or catch up to the PC I will personally eat my hat.

A console might be able to catch up graphics wise to most computers, but a top of the line computer can surpass all the consoles easily. But a console can never pass a PC for two reasons. One, we have mods. Two, a mouse and keyboard are always better than a controller, always.

Oh, absolutely. That's the beautiful thing. you'll get your Crysis port nex gen, and you'll get to brag during the first few months about how superior your console hardware is. Then PCs will get there uodate and you can draw the "overpriced PC" card. It is all a system, you see.

Crysis/thread

posts

when the next gen consoles come out

crysis will look like a joke,.

Next-gen consoles may come 2010. Do you honestly think console gamers will boast about having a next-gen console game looking better than a previous gen PC game?

Even then another Crysis game will most likely come. As well as CE3.

Nope console hardware is quite frankly terrible by nowadays standards.

What the hell do you expect from such machines everywhere, their hardware wasent exactly 'amazing' on release...

Visuals can scale.

Design cant.

Which is why there are plenty of technically complex games that struggle to run on todays consoles, or simply will not run, despite what fanoys will say.

you PC gamers exxagerate to the 10th degree! Case closed.VideoGameRosado

while i dont really agree with most of ur post, there is certainly some truth to it

but there is a graphic aspect the is always over looked when comparing consoles to pc's...

FRAMERATE!!!

with a generally powerful pc, you are capable playing pretty much all multiplats and pc games in general at 2x and even 3x the framerate(NOTICIABLE FRAMERATE DIFFERENCES TOO) which results with much smoother gameplay of course and overall better experience

I will like to see, CoH and Medieval 2 Total War done on a console.

Of course they can be done. You'd be a fool to think otherwise. but at the same time, there's limitations since you're mentioning a RTS. An RTS is quite difficult to pull off on consoles due to controller, but contoller aside, of course it can be done. What can CoH/Total war do, that PS3/360 can't do? And if there are certain things that can't be done, it's nothing game changing/noticible. And yes, I played both games, other than large scale battles, and good graphics for an RTS, those games don't impress me. Let's talk about FPS/Action/shooter games like the TC brought up. Killzone 2/Gears of war 2 are quite simple, the greatest looking consoles games out. Lets, include uncharted while we're at it too. Those 3 games, can of course be done easily on PC. However, There's no doubt that they can compete with top PC games. Killzone 2/Gears 2/uncharted/MGS4 can compete on PC. Show me a PC game, besides Crysis and RTS games, that CAN'T be done on a console, and state your reasons why. This doesn't go directly to you, but to everyone.

*sigh* You say we can't bring up Crysis and RTS games so to be far, you can't bring up Killzone 2, Gears of War 2, and MGS4 since you seem to be hiding behind those.

With that aside, the original Far Cry still has graphics that can match some current-gen console games.

Yeah, you bring up a good point. Framerate is an issue console gamers suffer. However, when put the right amount of effort, it shouldn't be a problem.
