Consoles Have Not Had An FPS Exclusive In 3 Years

The last exclusive in the FPS genre for consoles was Halo 5 Guardians released 3 years ago in 2015. It's even worse for the PS4 their last FPS exclusives was Killzone Shadow Fall which was a launch title 5 years ago! Sony can't make a great FPS everyone knows this they tried with the PS3 and failed miserably. Even a tiny indie studio does a better job than Sony when it comes to making FPS games. That's why Sony has given up but these guys are the best developers right? Meanwhile on PC we are enjoying great FPS games and will continue to do so in the future.

Well, it's not like they can't make them if they want to. Shitty movie games are now the fad for Sony. Xbox gave up on making games.

PC has lots of smaller teams which usually bunnyhop on consoles at some point. Insurgency 2 will be on consoles, for example.

They can't make them bro. Do you really think Killzone is a good game? Look at PS3 era they had Haze and MAG both terrible games and complete failures.

Insurgency 2 will probably come to consoles a year later and it will be the inferior version. ARMA never came to consoles, Quake Champions isn't coming to consoles, neither Star Citizen, Rising Storm or Squad.

Jeez, been since red steel 2 since I last enjoyed a exclusive FPS. Which was Wii.

I suppose its easier not to make FPS than compete with CoD, Battle field, Destiny, Doom etc... All multiplats which probably sold a whole lot more than exclusive content on ps4, X1.

Meh. I can’t say that I really ever thought of this or really care about it to be honest. Whether a game is exclusive or not doesn’t really make me care about it any more or less.

Cows keep saying that PS4 has games for everybody but when you look at their library you find out that's not true

If we go by cows logic Shadow fall was garbage a 73 on Metacritic and that's with pro Sony reviewers boosting up the score it would be in the 60's if it were on PC

The game was trash the multiplayer is dead nobody is playing that this is the best shooter Sony can give you this generation and you guys will defend this that's the problem with console guys they never demand more

The Cycle which is only for PC atm is going to have its Alpha test starting next week. It reminds me a lot of Firefall

There's no point in FPS exclusive games, they can't possibly compete with games like COD and BF, why would a company waster resources on them? They make money on those two games by the buckets anyway.

And I'm glad Guerrilla Games stopped making FPS games, we got the masterpiece called Horizon Zero Dawn.

I'm good with that, the FPS genre is stale anyway. Only so many ways you can make games where it's almost entirely just moving a crosshair and pulling the trigger mindlessly over and over again.

So why did Sony even bother with games like MAG and Killzone? Why is MS still making Halo games? COD at BF are actually declining in popularity they've had their heyday

You guys are missing the point. You don't have any FPS exclusive games on your platform now you wanna talk about Spiderman that has nothing to do with the discussion. We are playing FPS exclusives on PC right now the likes of ARMA 3, CS:GO, Quake Champions, Squad, Rising Storm, Day of Infamy, Verdun and many more.

I'd take Horizon Zero Dawn and the new Spider-Man game over any boring generic FPS that Insomniac and Guerilla Games would have pumped out trying to compete with COD and Battlefied

FPS exploded in popularity last gen when every one and their grandma and pets were trying to make a FPS game to be the next COD or Halo for the $$

People don't even get hyped up as much for the new COD or Battlefield releases like they do anymore, and I'm sure sales of these games aren't at all like what they were last gen.

Good post I agree. Sony should invest into a solid multiplayer shooter. Microsoft has halo and gears which is tps, gears is arguably the best multiplayer tps. Halo tho not perfect, has excellent multiplayer.

But on a side note my favorite fps right now is quake champions, I realize how much i miss arena shooters after downloading it, its great.

Spider-Man is a very generic looking game with with terrible combat that's ripped off from the Batman Arkham franchise

No series can match the big ones like Call of Duty, Destiny or Battlefield. So most studios just gave up trying.

We still have awesome online games on PC like Insurgency, Day of Infamy or Rising Storm. But singleplayer FPS seem to have died out completely.

I put my hopes in Wolfenstein but it sold like crap. I put my hopes in Prey but it sold like crap.

Soon there will be no more singleplayer FPS because they can't sell lootboxes and microtransactions.

It's a smart buisness move by Sony to not make a FPS exclusive title. Think about it, why would you invest time, money, and resources into a genre that is oversaturated with titles anyway? Every year you would have a new COD and Battlefield, Fortnite stealing the limelight, and titles like Titanfall 2 struggling in sales because competition is so tight.

Shooters are a dime a dozen. Exclusive movie rights to develop things like Spideman aren't.

I’m sorry not every great game can be a PC indie darling like The Stomping Land or whatever that Early Access disaster of a game was.

I hate when people act like there’s no gameplay in these games. I’ll take a “shitty movie game” over getting ripped off through Steam Early Access where games don’t even get released but PC gamers are dumb enough to pay for it beforehand.

wolfenstein 2 sold like crap because it has 20 minute movie and many people lost interest. Prey doesnot sell well because of marketing.

best example is DOOM. it was so success that it is getting a sequel. same goes to Metro series as it is concluding a finale in trilogy. a game started when developers were small indie and now they are full AAA developers.

The Sony loop

1. Show a visually impressive game

2. Release game with bare-bones gameplay, as long as it looks good

3. Get praised by SJW media that spend more time complaining about the politics of games than actually playing them

Rinse and repeat.

The PC loop.

1. Release bad ass game.

2. Get ignored by media.

3. When game is released on console it gets praised

4. Even if it's terrible like The Witcher 3
