I choose to write about my belovedAtari Jaguar
--------------------
Plus Side:
- Great hardware considering it was launched during the 16-bit era.
- First "technically marketed" 64-bit machine (which was really dual 32-bit architecture).
- First Double-Speed CD Drive.
- Virtual Light Machine feature (Which I still love it to this day).
- Affordable (3DO was well over $600 while the double-powered Jag was $249).
- RGB capable (this was huge back in the day).
- Online capable (although not yet a viable standard, but Atari was ahead of the curve).
- Expandability (too much to list, but included using 8 controllers, a VR headset, a keyboard, etc).
- Tempest 2000.
- Jaguar CD included a 512mb memory cartridge (that was a BIG plus back in the day).
- The very best versions of the original DOOM and WOLFENSTEIN are on the Jaguar.
Minus Side
- No Third Party Support.
- No Second Party Support either.
- First Party games were terrible for the most part.
- The controllers (although strangely comfortable to hold) were laughable.
- Only two games were able to be played online via the "Catbox".
- Jaguar CD Peripheral launched with NO GAMES available at the time.
- Jaguar VR headset was cancelled.
- Jaguar Keyboard was cancelled.
- Virtually all of Atari's Jaguar peripherals slated to arrive after the CD unit were cancelled.
- Alien Vs. Predator.
- Standard Jaguar controllers only had 3 buttons (Arcade version was later released with 6).
I miss my Jag. No matter what anyone may say, this is the one gaming console that could have been truly GREAT. It was very ahead of it's time in every aspect. It's a shame that Sam Tramiel was a clueless President at Atari.
