the cutscenes are some of the best i've seen in a game, another thing is how smoothly it goes from a cutscene to gameplayMad_Rhetoric
The cutscenes are underwhelming, and the voice acting is aweful :?
The gameplay also does nothing innovative.
Are you sure we're seeing the same game?

no hes just more open minded and doesnt have fanboy goggles on.
So where is this technical mess and PS2 like animations IGN was talking about cause I'm not seeing it so far and I've seen quite a few vids of this game.
Good Vid though, only thing I didn't like is the boss battle music rest looks great fun. The english voice acting isnt as bad as people are making it out to be, I've heard far worse, KH2 for example.

definitely nothing new from the gameplay. I don't think that's a bad thing at all. Been looking for a turn-based RPG like this.

well apparently alot of people think that it looks last gen, read the preview at ign, ugh not looking so good
but I read in your sig that you really like Blue Dragon right? then I guess you'll really like this since its made by the same development team, just not my type of game

look at the textures, character models, they look like a hi res ps2 game
and btw this is just my opinion, so dont take a hissy fit over it

These people must either be blind or there just sheep and cow fanboys, they bash what looks good but they forget the fact they have yet to see a good JRPG on there consoles yet... PS3 has what zero so far.. and Wii.. hmm.. Fire Emblem?-Flop..
Looks like the only company this gen trying to get some decent JRPGS out this gen is Mistwalker, while Square-Enix are taking years.
IGNorance can stick a sock in it.

definitely nothing new from the gameplay. I don't think that's a bad thing at all. Been looking for a turn-based RPG like this.
I'm personally ready to move on. I could probably bear with a turn-based rpg this gen, if the story and characters seemed well-developed. But the voice acting is so bad it almost single-handedly ruins the experience. I mean, that "comic relief" feller following Kaim isn't funny--he's just annoying.
Makes one appreciate the hard work that goes into games with good voice acting.
Can't say much about the characters based on a 19 minute video, but that mage with the ponytail was annoying. The game is no graphical powerhouse, but it looks like it'll be fun to play. I still might buy it.
[QUOTE="majadamus"]It takes forever to load. white45e
it took like 5 seconds :| any of the load times
I was talking about the video itself, not the video game. And about those load times in game..there were a lot em.

The video I was watching had crap quality, but I think IGN might be over exaggerating a bit. It definetly isn't the best looking game out right now, but it's not PS2 quality in terms of graphics.
Square-Enix is taking a long time, but it'll be worth the wait.

Jamie_1987
Lost Odyssey does not look like a high-res PS2 game.
Graphically, it's very pretty, albeit with constricted pathways and poorly textured environments. But the character models are well-done and the game has a strong aesthetic sense.
Unfortunately, a few other elements in the game, including the gameplay system and the voice acting, ruin what's good about it.

I think the character models are some of the worst aspects of the game, actually, while the voice acting is far above average for a JRPG. The gameplay won't win any awards, but then again, neither will most JRPGs. These things are interactive novels, and I approach them as such.
man im really hopeing this game turns out good..
if mistwalker screws up another jrpg then they should just give up making games so 360 fans dont have to keep being dissapointed.

same but JRPGs seem to always be a hit or a miss

Could be, but I've seen a lot of Lost Odyssey videos, and there isn't much difference between them in the voice acting respect.

True, it depends what you compare the game to. I guess FFXII spoiled me, though that game's story wasn't anything spectacular either, and its gameplay was flawed as well. But the presentation was what held the whole experience together, and Lost Odyssey lacks that level of polish.
